That means absolutely nothing. A majority of the sales of GT5 would be due to the popularity of previous GT games.

And sales of Forza would generally be predicated on the popularity of previous Forza games. Sorry, but the "Forza is giving gamers what they want, GT isn't" argument is unmeasurable in any way outside of sales. Generally speaking, people buy what gives them what they want. I'd agree that sales figures are, by in large, useless. But in this specific case, they are the only measuring stick that makes sense.

8 Removal of standard, Pro physics. This was an excellent idea on GT5P because it catered for wheel and pad owners.

This feature hasn't been removed, however it is now referred to as Skid recovery force on/off.

On another point, reading peoples complaints regarding B-Spec, members of GTP are perhaps more hands on racers than RPG pokemon/WWC type gamers. I find the whole GT Anywhere will be useful but more from the fact that I can't help collecting everything in a game such as GT5.

does any one know if you can "control" BOB during these remote races...or just watch?

For the fifth time, I have no problem with, and ENJOY B-Spec. For the fifth time.

Also, I have several management simulations where I need to do next to nothing to run.

I have one simulated racing game in which all I pretty much do is hire a driver, set up pit strategy, and sit for two and a half hours biting my nails.

And I enjoy it.

Endurance races I do in one sitting for every one of them under four hours. Over four hours, maybe two sittings or one with friends.

On B-Spec, I run them when I'm not home or sleeping. I'm not playing the game.

It is far fetched. To get market share, you must first have a market. There isn't a whole lot of online car collection games on the platform, with the sole possible exception being Trofeo Pirelli. Which all of maybe five people including me, play.

Sixth time. I find it an "enjoyable part of the game." So do others.

It might take days for me to get a car. I recently took five days to work up 4.7 million credits for the R10 TDI.

Some people could probably do that in four hours or less.

I enjoyed every minute of it.

Wait a minute, do you enjoy this part of the game? How about other obscure games?
Oh, kew.

I bet the likes of Turn 10 and director Dan Greenawalt is licking his lips thinking "right this is our best chance to steal the crown" and he would be right in thinking this.

I bet the likes of Turn 10 and director Dan Greenawalt have their lips stuck so far up their own backsides that they fail to see they once had the crown, let it go, and even with the issues GT5 has it still kills FM3 in just about every way.

And if they're actually licking their lips over anything, it's the thought of thousands of more layers of paints on the underside of the hood and on the door jam and people able to walk around the cars in their painting game with Kinect.💡

What GT5 needs to do is do what T10 did when they first launched Forza. That's steal ideas from others. Take FM2's gameplay modes (career, exhibition, hotlap, TT) and it's online lobby interface, FM1's car clubs, a Forza like class system for the cars then add that to the great physics, tracks and car list of GT5 and you'd have the ultimate racing game.

Its a solution to a problem that should never have existed. Remove b spec beef up a spec events and prices and surely the game would be loads better off for it without the need for elaborate remote access and control.

Yeah, I have no interest in B-Spec'; I'd rather drive thanks :)

Read above. I didn't cared about b-spec in GT4, not even a little bit. Like it - use it, don't like - don't use it, but you still will get your 100% finished game. It's that simple.
Now, PD forced that in to the game just to fill the emptiness with it. It's long, it's not the real driving simulator. It's there to make an illusion that game is not 50 hours short, exp system with weird numbers playing the same role as well.
But it seems like some people just don't want to see all points and still "eating whatever PD gave them".

As for PS3 on 24/7. I really don't see a point why should anyone do that. But that is not important at all. Main point PS3 24/7 "doing" different things is ok i you want, but PS3 on for 12 days so i can finish 1 race in a game? I have no comments on that.

Also read 3 posts above that. See, i'm not alone. So i would like to stop that boring discussion about "how only me don't like b-spec".

PD dont "force" you to do anything. If you dont like b-spec you never have to touch it. If you do like it or want to give it a try it's there for you to try out.

Personally I have been really enjoying b-spec. After a night of racing myself it's nice to sit back and watch bob race for a while under my direction. If I am racing myself I need 100% attention to the game. With Bob driving I can kick back and enjoy watching the racing whilst only giving 10% attention to playing the game.

The problem with your argument (same from some others in this thread) is your claim that b-spec is worthless because you personally dont like it. As I said, if you dont like it then dont use it, you dont have to. But to claim that PD shouldn't have included a feature just because you personally dont like it hence depriving people like me that do like it of the feature is unbelievable arrogance. It's no different than me saying that Turn 10 shouldn't waste their time putting a livery editor into Forza because I have no interest in. It's a feature I would never want to use......but I understand that there are plenty of people who do like it and I'm happy that they can get something out of the game even if it's something that I dont get.

I also have to laugh at the people preaching that leaving my PS3 on all day is such a waste of ellectricity....I mean wow......do I need to let you know what temperature I leave my thermostat set to or how long I stay in the shower as well.

Is it OK for me to leave my PS3 on overnight because I went round and made sure all the lights were off in my house before I went to bed vs the guy next door who turned his PS3 off but has a bad door seal on his fridge making it burn through far more ellectricity than his PS3 would.

Is that really what the debate is coming down to. :boggled:

does any one know if you can "control" BOB during these remote races...or just watch?

I would think you can just control him but not "watch".

Other way around. You can watch, but not manipulate your driver.

FYI about Remote Races.

-You and your friend(s) Driver must be shared
-You can not do B-Spec Events
-You can not manipulate your driver (i.e. pace up/down, overtake) This was its fair to your friends drivers
-You Only earn XP for your driver
-You may win only money

It may not be exactly what you guys are expecting, but any new feature is a welcome feature.

I was thinking, B-Spec is GT5's way of playing itself. Basically, B-Spec is GT5's way of masturbating, and it's disgusting.

Check out the Audi at LeMans sometime - when they did the trans swap, they swapped the entire rear assembly - everything aft of the engine block: rear subframe, suspension, brakes (quick-release no-bleed connectors), bodywork, aerodynamics, gearbox, etc. - all in around 26 minutes, if memory serves. I was gobsmacked watching it live.

Oil change in a pit stop might be far-fetched, but on something like the 9h or 24h enduros, it could be worthwhile. An oil change really can be done pretty quickly in real life, and could be done fairly quickly in the pits - as quickly as changing out seats and harnesses for drivers, for instance. :)

Might be off topic, but what year was this?

I've watched every LMS race in totality since the Bentley fire in 2001. I don't remember the trans change by Audi, was it a class leading car or?

I think I remember an R15+ Hitting a rumblestrip and getting the bodywork right knackered. But that might not have been lemans. Its hard to remember everything about 24 hour races.

Back on topic:

Updates that benefit both sides would include;

GT Anywhere as live timing/scoring so your friends, who might not have GT5 or a PS3 can still watch you race, and for people with dual monitor setups like mine, I'd like a proper timing screen so I can kill my HUD.

Double Stint tires. Drastically needed. Also, hard tires need a +10 to +20 percent increase in life and maybe five percent decrease in grip. Its hard to justify hard tires on anything but the most powerfull of cars, when mediums give +3seconds and last just as long.

Shorter refuels. 100L refuel takes 15-20 seconds, depending on the fuel and fueling method. It does not take a full minute and a half.

The same tirewear in the B-Spec Extreme races in the A-Spec extreme races.

Damage repair in offline, singleplayer. Even if the damage is cosmetic, I don't want to do a 2, 4, 9 or 24 hour race with a car that looks like a crushed beer can because of bad AI mishap on lap 1.

Edit: B-Spec haters and Enduro haters take note. I am not complaining. I like the game as is. I'm offering eloquent suggestions that don't include "PD Should because I say so."

Instead of adding new stuff to the game, why not fix the 8,000,000 things that are wrong with it first; STARTING WITH THE "ADJUSTABLE" TRANSMISSION!

I like the A spec tire wear suggestion but with the reduced laps I'm not sure how much it will mater... Leads to a different topic about A spec laps... :/

I should add that B-Spec tire regs be added to A-Spec races. Then tirewear would definately matter. Especially during Dream Car and Schwarz.

@bigbaz

You make very good points, unfortunatley you will get branded for your opinion.

Well he shouldn't get branded because he makes some very valid points (although I would add AI to that list). You can't brand someone for their opinion, that is the point of a forum. If we all had the same opinion there would be no need for discussion.

And for those that can't understand how people (myself included) could be mad about PD updating B-spec, remember its not the feature itself that people don't like, its the fact that the time put into it takes away from the development time of the rest of the game.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and mine is that B-spec is a complete and utter waste of time and has prevented GT5 from being the brilliant game it should have been.

Let the branding begin :)

I *think* it was 2000. It was the Audi R8, when it was moving into dominance.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_R8_(race_car)

I was mistaken in thinking it took 26 minutes - it only took THREE AND A HALF MINUTES to change the entire rear - everything behind the engine block, basically. Crazy. Can't remember if that was the winning car or not, but it seems like they had to do that gearbox change a couple of times during the race, maybe on more than one car.

I'd seen glimpses of this "modular" race car design a year or two earlier at Daytona, when on of the Porsches (a 911-based GT3, I believe it was) suffered a catastrophic clutch failure, and I was certain the car was done, out of the event. I watched on live TV as a guy pulled bodywork off, flicked a couple levers on the transmission case, and pulled the clutch out the side, all contained in some kind of "cassette" - then popped a new one in, flicked levers back (I'm guessing that engaged the pilot shaft through the clutch disk splines), put bodywork back on, and the car roared out of the pits.

There are things you see that just leave you smacking your forehead, realizing that the brilliance of what you've witness will forever change racing and automotive performance. These were times like that.

Major off topicness:

I did not witness that race in its entirity, but I know now what you're talking about. Also, Porsche has made some of the best race cars in history.

Two things, and both last year.

It was dawn at lemans, very very late at night here. I'm sitting in my couch, pepsi in hand, petting my cat and biting my nails hoping that Audi could somehow pull this race off.

Thats about when the second Peugeot puked engine parts near mulsanne I believe.

I know then that Peugeot was in dire trouble, and fought off sleep to experience the amazing end of the race.

The second, the corvette. The rear end was totaled and the engine sounded terrible. It goes to the paddock, the film crew checking in from time to time.

Not much more then about fifteen minutes or so later, the thing roars up, its lights come on, and it takes off out of the pits. With several exhausted, but happy cheering mechanics egging it on. For the first year, I actually respected Corvette, and thats going to be a sin I'll have to deal with :D

Also sometime last year there was both a DP and a Porsche at different points in the season that got WIPED OUT. Seriously hurt.

The next races for each of them, after probably a straight week of working. Both chassis roll onto the grid. Chassis that were bits of tinfoil a few days prior. Especially the DP, who had went up in FLAMES in near totality during the last race.

Oh yes, I remember this well! The effort on the Corvet crew was truly inspiring... I really was rooting for them but I believe an oil leak or clog did them in after a few more laps... I jumped up and yelled when I say the wreak, the helpless C06 going tail first into the wall...

One of the most passionate lemans of all time. I believe it was also the fastest on record.

Though by the end, with all the closed paddock doors, including the whole kit of Peugeots I was almost sad that Audi had won. Watching the Peugeot team principal sob at his paddock centre while the team was tearing down was heartbreaking, even from a team I despise.

Not the thread for that though, thought of something else;

When you retired a race (A and B spec) championship or no, you should still get last place points, xp, and money for entering, provided you ran at least one lap.

Although I see this as being heavily exploited, its how real motorsports works and simply, I'm surprised it wasn't included.

By the way, sorry for the off-topicness.

We now return you to your regularly-scheduled thread...

And... Silence...

Hehehehehhhh...

Maybe our favorite LeMans moments are more interesting!

Haha, I think you're right. Oh well might as well keep something rolling. Last year was the first time I watched (most of) the Le Mans race, would love to go some day.

The closest we have in Australia is the Bathurst 1000. Geoff Brabham said this year that winning Bathurst would mean as much as winning Le Mans. Big call, but it is a pretty amazing race.

And back on Le Mans, I would have loved to have been following it through the nineties, particularly to see cars like the XJR-9LM and 787B. Everything I know of these cars is through Gran Turismo, been saving for them in GT5 but it takes so long.

Not long enough to make me want to play B-spec though 👍

Anyone with the last name Brabham wins in my book.

I've not seen any televised stuff on the Bathurst 1000, but where I live I get to see all the ALMS races in relative entirity( some are tape delayed a half hour) plus most of Grand-Am, LMS series races (Namely Spa) NBR 24hr and Lemans itself.

Needless to say, I stay up late alot.

I've seen many races (not in entirity) in the 90s with the Group C cars. Some great battles between Mazda and Sauber.

GT anywhere?
Do not care. Will never use it.

Yeah we've just got a new foxtel channel here called SPEED and it covers a lot of ALMS and FIA GT so I'd say I will be getting a lot less sleep from now on.

You should youtube some Bathurst highlights, I think you will enjoy it

SPEED is a standard channel here. It's a car/racing channel.

I get updates on BTCC and Super GT off youtube, I'll have to look into the Bathurst 1000

Does anyone consider that Gran Turismo anywhere' is basically Kaz giving us the finger?

What's the LAST thing that any of us has been begging for since day one? Yep... remote control (but no fast forward) of B-Spec.\

But it seems to have been priority #1 at PD.:indiff:

How about the extra 200+ events that Gt5 needs to even be on a PAR with GT4? You know, the thing that would take one coder less than a couple of days to come up with...

No. You WILL play B-Spec, and you WILL love it, and you WILL do it from your browsers. So sorry if any of you had bought GT5 because YOU wanted to drive. That's not what GT5 is all about. It's watching an idiot AI drive around for you... What's NOT to love about that?

Shift2 can't get here fast enough for me, watching this...

You are another one of those people who dont want certain features only because you personally wont use it. Dont be so fast to to judge what others want. This has been a confirmed feature even before release of the game, so its not something new and earth shattering. And you willing to give up GT5 for another game just because they added a feature that isnt mandatory to use is just laughable.
