The 300Z finally came around in the second hand car listings for me. I've hit 302.6x in it, but my computer with the capture card is at my university accomodation, so I wont be able to record a record run until late next week (at the earliest). Additionally, i've still got a ton of other new speeds I've been sitting on since before christmas which I need to put up.

What cars are the other regulars working on at the moment? :)

Nothing, as I restarted the game and the fastest car I have right now is the Dome Zero. Well, technically the fastest car I have is the Ford GT Concept, but I refuse to touch it.

so you did beat me on the 300ZX as well MStorm, well done 👍 , to be honest, i haven't done a lot of 300mph-work in the last weeks, only a new project, stuck @ 294,xxmph.........*dammit*

That's true, the rules do not mention anything about outright lies, but I left that out in the hope that it would never be needed. Although, I think I shall have to edit the first post to put slightly more emphasis on 'your' speed. Cheers.

I think the 'outright lies' section is covered by the AUP?

AUP Section #1

Agreed. I guess the rules should just have one rule reminding people that all of the terms outlined in the AUP additionally apply.

But let us get back to the high speed talk! I've just done a speed good enough to put me in the top 100 on the leaderboard (as the board stands right now, so over 334.39mph)...

...with a road car! :scared:

Unfortunately, I don't have access to my capture card until tommorow, so I have no way to verify the speed. :(

However... I did manage to record a slightly slower speed with the same car (still good enough for the outright road car record) using the webcam on my laptop, so I will be able to claim the record at least! 👍

i'm curious about the car you used MStorm
The Tommy Kaira ZZ-II. The peak speed I've reach is 334.51mph, with another run reaching 334.42mph. The recording is at 333.85mph, but as I said before, it's not a capture card job like my usual efforts. Hopefully I can reproduce/increase the speed in the next few days once I am able to use my capture card again.

In the meantime however...

By the way, I won't be here from Sunday afternoon until Thursday - try to avoid posting any speeds in that time.
Please do not PM me regarding 300mph Club membership - all you need to know is in this first post, and if you have any questions they should be posted here
*raises eyebrows* :p

I'd like to reiterate - do not email me regarding entry to the 300mph Club.

On a lighter note, I'm back... As you may have noticed. Welcome to paul66766, and congratulations to MS for giving me something to do with the Recent Records section for a change! Nice work 👍

Downloading your video now, MS... And that looks fine. Well done!
Have to love the stupid automatic gearbox shifting up when it starts to slow down :p

Those are quite good beginner speeds. I'm impressed, and I don't see why your requests would go unanswered. Good job.

On a completely unrelated note, I have now completed Mission 34. This both means that this game won't take the equivalent of 17 in-game years to complete like it did last time, and that I know have a new car to play with.
I'm also thinking about playing around with the Zonda, while I'm at it.

thanks. next i want to try the toyota gt-one because some people have got 375mph with them and all the top records are in it

i'm going to try tomorrow with my R92CP to break 300mph... i remember trying a while back and reaching around 285, but i couldn't seem to get it to go any faster. what do i need to do? my suspension was on its hardest setting, ride height was as low as possible, downforce was as low as possible, the car was max tuned and i had the longest gear i possibly could. what else can i do to get more speed out of the car?

Generally your suspension should be soft, so that you can keep traction at high speeds. Lowest ride height and downforce isn't the best way to high speed either (I don't want to give too much away, but basically this leads to sub-optimal traction in the driving/rear wheels). Generally most people only consider the aerodynamics of that car, but that's pointless if you cannot transfer the engines power efficiently enough to make use of it.

Setting the gearing to the longest possible is generally just a bad idea. You need to remember that the longer you set the gearing, the slower your car will accelerate towards it's peak speed. Set a gear too long and you wont be able to accelerate in it at all. You only get 2 straights and the long corner to reach your maximum speed, so it's essential to balance both acceleration and theoretical top speed in order to get the car going as fast as possible.

As for some new suggestions, well you've probably done these already anyway, but turn off the driving aids (you can leave a little TCS to improve low speed acceleration), and set the NOS to maximum power (that's 70 on the R92CP I think, you'll need to use it a little before you enter the tunnel).

Anyway, good luck! 👍

Oh... and DE, you need to update the Hall of Fame. The road car record still says I-Runner. :)

Nice speeds, mt00, particularly with the R92CP. And the photos are good, too. You're looking like becoming a good member, keep it up!

Good luck! See if it really is an equal to the R92CP... PAL + an unhealthy addiction to the Nordschleife = quick completion ;)

I'll be interested to see where that gets you...

frewin there is a very good post at #815 to tell you how to do this. heres the link: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpo...&postcount=815 ;)
Useful help, well done 👍

Really? I mustn't have been paying attention when this happened... :dopey:

(I don't want to give too much away)
I like this new way of thinking ;)

As an aside, I think it's a bit more accurate to say that the longer you set your gears, the more power you will need to reach your top speed. No matter how long a straight line you have, an 88C-V is just not going to reach the limit of its smallest possible gears :sly:

I'd love to say that that's because of how long ago I last changed a class record, but I never could remember that first time! Thanks, I'll get that done.

I like your new signature, MS :p

Good luck. There isnt much downforce with it, snd I had a lot of trouble a while ago. I gave up, maybe one of you can pick up where I was. I was aroun 291 and started to get mad.

I dont want to jinx it, but this car might make it, but only by the skin of its teeth.......

Zonda is incredibly close after two runs, at 297.92 mph. 83 miles later, it is still at 297. Custom tuned gear ratios may be necessary for 300, but I hope not. I also hope this doesn't turn into a Ford GT/S7 scenario.

I thought about putting 'Birth of the 325mph Skyline', but I managed to resist the temptation. :dopey:
This new one is a bit more modest and discreet, I like it better... It doesn't push the uselessness of tuners like myself into the harsh light of day quite so much :D

Annoying but humbling

Care to elaborate on this one, for a 300MPH-newcomer?
Don't get him started on the S7 ;)
It took hundreds (thousands?) of miles to finally discover that some sort of curse is upon the Saleen, and it absolutely will not do 300mph. The GT is similar, although a little less frustrating (apparently :p)

Thousands. Yes. I'm pathetic. And one could argue that the GT is worse, as it took me about 500 miles in each of the three versions of the road car to realise that none of them could do it. Tough. The S7 is easier to blacklist than three versions of a car when people only think 2 versions exist.

But the S7 can it must. If it can't then all the laws of physics will melt away into oblivion (assuming they won't in the first place). I'm sure another 2000 miles of trial and error will certanly yield success.

We are talking about Gran Turismo 4. Since when have real world physics applied to anything, especially top speed testing. Either way, if I owned an S7 in my new game, I would go for it. When I get a new S7, I probably will.

You'll have to, sometime, for the Saleen Cup...

And two versions?

Also some info on the Ford GT - during hybridding, I mentioned the game lists the no-stripes as a different version:
  • 8D 07 dt_ford_gt_05_a
  • 8E 0A dt_ford_gt_no_stripe_05_a
  • FE 06 dt_ford_gt_concept_dmv_02_a
  • 5C 06 dt_ford_gt_concept_gulf_02_a (Probably the '02 Race concept in Gulf livery)
  • 0B 0A dt_ford_gt_lm_sp2_04_a (Probably the '04 LM-II racecar)

And two versions?
People usually think that there is just the GT '02 and GT '05.

They are different cars in performance as well.
