Personally, I find all the top speed tuning in GT4 sucks pretty badly, it's nowhere near as intellectually interesting as it was in GT2 and GT3. In fact it's just downright weird in GT4, doesn't make much engineering sense at all

I agree. After I broke 300 with the minolta I decided to do a wheelie (something i'd never done before) with the black toyota gt just for the hell of it. I tweaked the suspension for a little while and was able to get the body to lift the suspension's maximum, but no wheelie. Long story short, what ended up happening is I defaulted the suspension, dropped the ride height to 55/55 and took all the spring out of the back... and that made me wheelie through 5th and 6th gear.

... So essentially all I had to do to wheelie was stretch the transmission and soften the rear springs. I thought that was pretty weird.

A note on my wheelie: I'm not a cheater and you can take to the bank that any specific speed I post here will be with all 4 tires touching. The main reason I spent so much time playing with the wheelie is because the best way to avoid doing something is to know how its done.

That's interesting Ben_jamin, because that's not the best setup for a wheelie (not by a long way, by my understanding) but it's mostly down to the aerodynamics of the car. The GT-One is extremely prone to wheelie.

One of the reasons I chose that car for my wheelie was because it looks like it has a light front end. What makes it so weird is that first I picked up the ride height in the front all the way, put max down force on the back and soften the springs some. I went considerably faster, but no wheelie. I thought for sure that with this car a bunch of downforce on the rear and a lift in the front, at ~340 mph, would have created enough of a push underneath the car to damn near flip it over but it wouldn't even pick the front tires up... but soften the rear springs half a dozen more points and the front end picks up at ~260.

...EDIT - FormulaGT, I've watched the video... it looks like it's OK, but could I have some photomode shots of the wheels at a few different angles? Just to make sure, because the car isn't displaying the Churchill Effect in the final stages of the run, so a close-up or two would be nice. Cheers...

Not a problem. I should have the pics soon. Also, could someone please tell me how to put them up in my post?

Thanks,

FormulaGT

I already told you but ill go ahead and tell you again:
scroll down till you see the images hosting button and then choose your photo. Once you have it click"host it". once you have done that copy the URl (forum) 1 and then paste it into your post.

Mmm hmm, it's commonly known that the rear springs have the greatest effect on wheelieing. If you think about it, the front can't lift if the back can't be squashed down, so the rear springs have to be soft.

I'd like to see a CLK-GTR battle, I might even join in myself :)

Well, as i recall, the last time i asked this question, you replied with: 'See my post on pics' (Er, ok, which one of the 1500 odd posts is that?). But thanks anyway for the instructions.

Here are 2 shots from diferent angles of my Minolta's wheels at the speed check (365.10):

Apologies in advance for not using ImageShack, i couldn't re-size my photos down to their requirements.

Hope these pics help.

Two more for anyone, including Toronado, to chase

The Cien, just a whisker in front, now at 306.74

And the Speed 12, way out in front of the pack, 310.47....

 that one made me laugh! 1.85mb, whoa ho... mental... two minutes and I'll let you know.

Nice going with the Speed 12 Ozmac... Let Toronado catch up to your 2D before improving it, though

Got the pictures Formula - Try upping the frame rate a bit in future, the second pic is a little bit evil to look at, and I'm not sure if I can accept it... I'll have a think about them.

Leaderboard Updated. I also added a little facts section at the bottom, with a viewcounter and an update tracker, which I think is accurate from my archives...

EDIT - What's the CLK-GTR Record... 328.05, OK... I'll go and do some testing :)

Sorry scaff, we got a tie for 81st!
and DE I have a plan to getsome of the cars that you dont want to buy. Here it is:
Get a second meory card and copy your game data and then load it and buy whatever car you want. Tune it, and then delete your block and then repeat as needed!
When i was getting some money at the 24H nurb. I had a funny time and one of the closest Ever for me:

Alive Ghost
Opendriver do you do the 24hr in b-spec? And how much money do you get for it?
Yeah I did. there is no way in hell im doing it a gin in a-spec:crazy:
you get 1.2 mil for the race and a F1 car worth about 1.6 so total( if you want to sell the F1) is about 2.8 mil
simple and easy way to earn creds:dunce: 👍

What do mean by upping the Frame rate? I took them on a ~$600 camera! (they're pretty much ~2000x2000 pixels!). I did what i could in the PhotoMode to give clear shots of the wheels. the best angle i could get was the second shot a side on close up. But when i took the photomode it would still blur with a shutter speed of 1/4000 (the fastest!)
I'll see if I can get a clearer side-on shot.

328.79 atm is my best kinda stuck right now might need some major gear changes to bust out more

Here's the Veedub Nardo, just a tiny bit quicker, 303.71.

This last one will do me for the meantime. It took me about an hour to sneak past T's previous best, and I just don't have that much tweaking time to spare right now for any other cars. It used to take nowhere near so long to get a new fastest speed, but the standards around here have risen quite a bit! Well done one and all, especially DE and Toronado, it's a fine old thread you've got going here. I'll make a point of dropping by occasionally to see how the wheels are spinning.

excuse me guys, but can you tell me how you're getting speeds in the 340's with the Audi R-8 and the Pescarollo '03? The most i can get on any car is 347 on the toyota, but thats when its skidding a little bit (which i dont think is legal). Any pointers? Nothing top secret, unless you want hehehehe.

Just turned on my PS2 to take 1 or 2 CLEAR wheel shots of my Mino, so they'll be up soon. This time i'll try to use ImageShack. BTW, Can anyone suggest a free image re-size program? The one ImageShack suggest is pretty useless, I can't even start the thing up!

Thanks,

FormulaGT

EDIT: Wolf8218, as i recall, the Pesky '03 required a lot of weird gearbox & suspension tuning. I can't say much else because my focus is on the Minolta. You should probably PM around.

I have done that a few times (I've got 3 memory cards), but not any more - I might as well just buy them, it means I get practice from winning the money. Good idea though. Nice going with the Panoz! Scaff will take 81st, because the TVR is maybe a little more of a road car, not wanting to spark any debates again... That's the way I work around ties.

I meant the photomode framerate. The combination of TV-to-camera distortion and the photo being blurred already make it hard to see much. A side-on shot is usually clearest, and focus the PM camera on the bottom of the wheel for greater clarity where it matters.

Opendriver, you can call sending Bob around the Nordschleife a simple and easy way to earn credits, but my god man, do the DTM! ! ! In A-Spec, as well! Take the credit for it yourself! Would you rather have B-Bob waste about fifteen hours of electricity, or would you yourself race for about three hours for the same money?

Hmm, nobody's near 340 in the 2003 Pescarolo, and the R8 has plenty left to give, upwards of 350mph I would think.

Yeah, here's a simple solution I use - open the picture in Paint, press Control + W (or click 'Image' then 'Stretch/Skew...'), then change both the horizontal and vertical numbers to whatever you want. Make sure the two numbers are the same, though.

Thanks for all the info. Damn, how could i forgoet about Paint, it's only been around for 10+ years!:dunce:

Ok, here are the pictures taken at the speed trap (365.10):

#1 Close up of front wheel:

#2 Super Close up of front wheel (opposite angle):

Hope they help. If the pics don't work, tell me.

EDIT: DE, but i took the pics before reading your post, so the PM camera isn't focused on the bottom of the wheel, sorry.

Formula GT piscasa from google should do it! And even MS paint should but that is a bit naff!
Why is Paint naff... It does the job as well as any program can...

FormulaGT, that's still not ideal but it looks good enough... Legitimate run, well done! 👍

Leaderboard Updated. You're now in second place, Formula... Keep on pushing!

thanks for the setups 666!

im gonna have some trouble actually getting these cars, im only at around 88% in the game and ive wasted my money tuning my evo's and impreza's, so im "RSC"-ing my way up to 9 Mil. :_(

Like DE stated a few posts ago, do the DTM series instead, if you want big $$$. Slap a stage 4 turbo on the CLK DTM car and B-spec the whole thing in 3x speed and then sell the prizecar. A total of over 900.000 Cr. in under 20 minutes!
