I think you'd see a lot more accidents at Oulton in real life if the track was as lumpy as it seems in TRD3 :)

I recently re-entered the GT Tuning Cup events as I am well ahead in the World Tour. Instead of the Koenig GT-D (looks very much like the Lamborghini Diablo), I get to race the Gemballa GTR 750. The problem with these cars is that they are tough to drive on narrow circuits and on twisty circuits. This goes to show you that in Gran Turismo, more horsepower is only good if you have a greatly-tuned car to begin with. Otherweise, all the horsepower in the world is useless on tracks like Bathurst and Spa-Francorchamps. Either they are tough to race effectively, or they are just too power-heavy to race proficiently around a track.

Other than that, it's a "supercar fanboy's/fangirl's dream." You have Koenig vs. Gemballa here. "Newbs" would say that this championship is about Ferrari vs. Porsche vs. Lamborghini. But it's Koenig vs. Gemballa. I'm currently racing the nVidia-sponsored Gemballa GTR 750 around Laguna Seca. It must be a four-wheel drive car since I'm not sliding off as much. But then, I've had some spinouts and been on my hood once! I cleared the series and on into Tier 29 or 30 now. After about Tier 27, you are more forced to race certain series because it's the only option. Like when I'm done with either GT Tuning or DTM (I believe that's the other event in this Tier), I'll have to contend with the BMW F1 Challenge. Don't tell me what Tier 32 is about. I want to see for myself what comes up after Tier 31 when I get there. So don't give me those crappy "spoiler!" deals.

The Koenig GT is the other car in the series. It looks like the beautiful Ferrari 360 Modena, but it's a tuned monster by Koenig. Its mid/RWD configuration means that you get the absolute best handling performance. The Koenig GT is actually the best car out of the three available in this series. You don't have to do very early braking or feather the throttle just to get it to handle better. It's also the least powerful of the three, pumping about 450hp.

I'm going to have to do more reading online about the real-life versions of these cars. I think I already came across the Koenig GT-D. Now some links:

Koenig GT - (no site found)
Koenig GT-D - (no site found)
Gemballa GTR 750 EVO - http://www.fast-autos.net/vehicles/Gemballa/2002/GTR_750_EVO/

I'm surprisingly liking the F1-style races despite the fact I loathe racing open-wheeled cars (too easy to be taken out of the race). If you're going to do GT Tuning Cup, use the Koenig GT. It's the easiest, less unforgiving car to race with in the series. Plus you have over 60 slots to use to modify it in Pro Career(?) and Simulation Modes. I'm really inching forward to clearing World Tour mode. All I'll get is accomplishment since I already registered ToCA RD 3 to unlock the Honda events.

I'll enjoy racing, despite the fact I have Finals to prepare for next week.

HOT... DAMN! GTPlanet, I advanced to Tier 31 and in a must-win deal with the BMW Williams F1 Challenge. These cars are wickedly fast! I don't know my British GT times around Silverstone's Full Course, but I'm lapping Silverstone at about 1:13 tops! I'm intimidated with the speeds of these cars and the handling and braking prowess of these cars. They are the most revered race cars in the world for a reason, and this game lets you know EXACTLY why!

In addition, I'm doing the Formula 3 events in one specific higher Tier. Call me crazy, but I think I do better with certain race series that are featured in higher tiers. The first F3 events were horrible for me, so the higher-up F3 events are easier I think. I'm doing the one which is in the order of:

Phillip Island - 5 laps
Oulton Park International - 5 laps
Snetterton - 5 laps
Castle Coombe (or is it really Castle Combe?) - 5 laps

So far, I've finally won two races in this series and have somewhat of a safe lead. Only race I haven't won so far was Phillip Island. I'm going to do Castle Combe for the chance to clear the championship and unlock Formula 3.

Its Castle Combe and its my local track (and even I get it wrong when I type to fast).

Great place, but a pity that the TRD3 version is too wide, too smooth and Avon Rise and Quarry Corner are not anywere near nasty enough.

Sometimes see him at HSCC meetings - he has an older DB4 or the like that he also races, he often turns up in an F40 or McLaren :O

We may have to have a Codemasters-based or ToCA Race Driver series sub forum since I'm talking all about this game here.

I recently beaten the Nashville time with the IndyCar Series. The secret of my success is that I didn't let off the throttle, but just didn't use full throttle. Something I'm usually good at is using the throttle to control the car. Don't laugh at me, but I ended up using the #16 Argent Mortgage Panoz G-Force driven by Danica Patrick (favorite driver in the series after all!). The time to beat was 23.31, and I ripped a 23.27. I also ended up winning the European V6 Shield Championship, by virtue of winning 16 cups prior to starting this event. There is still a lot of momentum to make up.

On to the BMW Williams F1 Challenge. Even with severely-damaged suspensions, I still won the race. I honestly don't admit to being an F1 fanatic. It doesn't mean that I hate F1, however. There seems to be a bigger sense of speed and control (and even fear!) in this game than with the Formula cars in GT3 or GT4. These cars that you race can be about as fast as about 223 mph! Also take note of how quick the cars reach that top speed. They go insanely fast and are (like most other open-wheeled cars, completely fragile. Sometimes I'm driving just fine or have a few offs. And the next thing I know it, my suspensions get beat down. I'll likely admit this as being the best aspect of the game- it brings out the best in you. No, really. Think about this. You're racing very fast cars on very technical and demanding courses. The element of damage makes you want to adjust your strategy each time you whack something. When you race the open-wheeled cars (not necessarily the Open-Wheel discipline), remember this and chant this as your mantra: "easy does it." You remember that in your head when racing the open-wheeled cars, and you'll do just fine. Only as long as you still carry that competitive fire and not make too many mistakes. Racing is 25% strategy, 25% skill, 25% mastery of skill, 15% nature, 9% everybody else's racing talent, and 1% luck.

After the Spa-Francorchamps round, I OWNED everybody! I'm not lying. This is the top 10 from my Spa-Francorchamps race with the BMW Williams F1 Challenge in World Tour mode:

Fastest lap - 1:40.18 (me)

01 - John Marine (me) - 13:42.90
02 - Connway - +58.29
03 - Scott - +1.02.49
04 - Wood - +1.02.55
05 - Hernedez - +1:03.69
06 - Carter - +1:03.89
07 - Repelio - +1:04.32
08 - Patterson - +1:05.37
09 - Lee - +1:05.51
10 - Harvey - +1:07.10

That's not to say this is an easy championship, so don't think I'm overconfident. It's why I say that there is a reason why F1 racers dominate real-life races. It's because of either two things: (1) the driver and team are just that good, or (2) the rest of the pack can't knock off a certain racer on any given track. I've screwed up, but not too much to where I'm liable to get into a big crash most of the time.

Interesting game, interesting series, just awesome. That even goes with my complaints I've made about the game.

How many people here play this online?

I usually spend evenings wasting time online in the sim DTM and Clio games where im usually pretty event with the top runners, but my refuseal to take large risks to pass usually means someone takes me out... but all in good fun.

Agreed 👍 after having seen it in real life avon rise is much steeper and quarry corner needs more prep.. That barrier on the inside isn't there either.
I make a special effort to go faster here just for the slight imagination in my head im killing alot of those damn wasps.

You've met the wasps at Quarry as well, I've been going for years and they are always there.

Good job you can view the track from any corner you want.

One thing I do like is that they have included the field in the middle of the track (more barriers that at the real track - but its still included), its not many tracks that have a farmers field in the in-field.

Hey, I'm sometime online nowadays, mostly only on Tuesdays after I get out of school, to run my teams 'Independant's Cup.' I will see if I can get on more, but it won't be on weekends, as I go camping*I stayed home this weekend, damn pollen allergies* Look for either UKOG-Matt or MattD1Drift.

Something weird happens to my DFP on TOCA3. The gas pedal randomly gets stuck at 50% power. I took the pedals apart to make sure the pots are in place and the double-sided tape i placed there are still working. It only happens to TOCA3, and not on other games. Anyone else here getting this problem? Got a solution for it? :indiff:

I've had that problem with Toca and Toca 2. Also the steering will get fishy every once and a while in Toca 2. It's odd. you have to restart the game too. Unplugging an replugging the DFP won't fix it.

Also in GT3 every once and a while the Foce Feedback starts fading out slowly untill there is none, then the input freezes up in the game after a while and you wreck untill you can unplug the DFP and plug it back in again. Very odd.

I haven't found a solution to this issue yet, but it seems different from my end. Unplugging the DFP seems hit or miss. Sometimes it works, sometimes it won't. I've found one common thing though. It happens only after around 15 minutes of play. My usb slot and the DFP usb plug were a bit hot. Weird thing is if itwas a DFP issue, I'm sure it wouldv'e shown up in other games. The usb connection gets hot when playing GT3/4 as well as TRDX, Enthusia and Initial D, but I don't see any throttle loss there... weird... so far only TOCA 3 shows this problem. It might be just my DFP or PS2, but if anyone else comes across the same issue, please post it here specially if you were able to get it resolved.

I have a dilemma. I have $40 burning a hole in my wallet and I want to spend it. I really want RD3 but I also really want WE9. Which one should I get?

In RD3, how is the racing with the DS2. I dont have a wheel and it seems like most of you guys have wheels. Im just wondering how the DS2 performs in the game.

Thanks

Bloody hell, MasterGT... that's typical of certain American racing fans. Much like people complain that Gran Turismo games have a lot, but not enough of the money-making stuff. If Codemasters wanted to focus on some high-class American-based racing, they can look to the ALMS, or get in those ugly-ass, no talent Daytona Protoypes. I don't know if this is an American thing, but it seems like whenever we aren't represented in any racing game or sports game as much as some other nation or country or continent, we're pissed. And guess what. That's the same thing that's been biting people in the ass about Gran Turismo games. Much like Polyphony Digital is a Japanese company mostly with Japanese influence, Codemasters is a British company mostly with British influence. That's even though they try to capture the essence of Formula 3, DTM, V8 Supercars, and even the IndyCar Series. They even have some F1 quality with the BMW Williams F1 Challenge in "ToCA Race Driver 3." That series was heart-pounding considering the level of speed and handling of these BMW Williams F1 cars.

They hit the base most of the time in a number of ways. The latest offering has class racing, something GT4, Enthusia, or Forza doesn't have. They pick some of Europe (and even the world's) toughest tracks. There are much fewer fantasy courses for those who loathe fantasy courses. Codemasters taken a game that was mostly about touring car racing and turned it into a series encompassing as many four-wheeled racing disciplines as possible. Only thing I'd change to the series is to tone down the aggressiveness of the AI so that they aren't like "oh, I must shove him off the track so I can easily win." But other than that, they hit the bases very well. Better than most other racing games. And this is a racing sim game. Isn't that what people want over GT4 or Forza?

One last note, Pro Race Driver was a shame. Poor graphics, storyline got old and whiny, AI drives like pigs after drinking down moonshine, and was just completely a shame. The oval racing was crappy too. I dreaded the day I had to race a Toyota GT-One around Charlotte's oval against some lowlife behind the wheel of something as sophisticated as a Toyota GT-One. Oh, and I hate "Sweet Home Alabama." Hated just about all the music in the game. The two sequels improved all of the missing elements from PRD, only that ToCA RD 3's AI needs an attitude check. A BIG one.

My thoughts exactly 👍 👍 👍 ... One of my complaints about GT4 and Enthusia is that all races feel the same. TOCA 3 satisfies me in a different way than GT4 and Enthusia when it comes to "Racing". Which leads me to...

JohnBM01

Actually GT4 isn't claiming to be a "Racing" Sim... Polyphony prefers the term "Driving" sim... which I think they've done quite well with GT4. Not that GT4 isn't a racing game. It's just that it tries to simulate the driving experience more than the racing part. But I'm still hoping they go for more racing disciplines. It kinda gets boring after a while. Specially once you've got most of the cars already.

Got TOCA 3 for my B-Day from my wife for Xbox though. I think i did 6 or 7 Tiers already and in career mode I did the Cart races. At first I thought the game was less realistic then Toca 2. In Toca 3 the cars just don't damage that easy and I have everything on Pro-Simulation. But then after playing for about an hour it seemed pretty realistic and the damage was different for each class. Like the Open-Wheeled cars damaged more easily then the monster trucks did.

You really have to pay attention to the racing lines in this game also its not very forgiving on certain corners of certain tracks. You oversteer a little bit and the car starts going around lol. But I have rolled a few times and let me tell you that is freaking sweet when it happens.

I just copped the game, did already a few championchips in world tour, and I'm really loving the game, especially the open wheel races, especially the folmula 1000. 👍

I have had (dtm) toca race driver 1, and I remember you could change weather conditions. In this game, I've only raced with "sunny", and I don't have any idea how to change it - if I can change it at all! Does someone know how if it can be changed?

Only certain tracks have the Wet option, Donington does as well as a few others. You can do that by using the left analog stick, left & right

Thanks dude. 👍

But correct that, it's the right stick. :p

I also investigated it for the DFP, and it's R1 and L1 for that one. I just saw the message coming by this time, Dongington selected. Geez I've been stupid. :)

I just bought this game three days ago (along with a DFP :D). It's probably good that I'm done with school, because TOCA might possibly consume all of my free time . The variety of racing cars and tracks in this game is amazing! That $30 was well spent 👍

ToCA 3 Tuning Form

This is a simple, all-platform tuning sheet that should cover all aspects of setting up any vehicle in the game (I don't have them all yet, though). The main purposes of it are to record settings for quick on-line set-ups (since we can't load our custom settings), race planning for hosts, and for recording which settings do nothing (stop wasting time).

Since it is a PDF, the form should also print to anyone's printer, but it is made for half-page sized notepad paper, as noted in the instructions on page 2. As a PDF, it can also be scaled to fit other paper.

What I really need now is quality feedback as to if there are any problems with the design! For instance, are there any problems with European sized notepads? Anything missing? (no percentage calculation area is known, so use the back or note area)

Cheers,

MasterGT

I decided to see if anyone was online in this game friday night and there were only 2 rooms available for the xbox version. :dunce:
Seems like no one is online in this game. I havent played the single player in a while so I cant update my "TOca race stats" thread yet. The last time I checked I think I was around 40%.

Where is GTPlanet's support for this game?

I know I asked this before, but, man, I haven't been so enthusiastic about playing racing games since I started. Getting on-line with real people and voice makes all a world of difference compared to doing GT time trials.

No GTP racing leagues from the many players who were racing off-line for ages? Members here have screamed for GT on-line almost since the beginning and when you get a chance to do it in ToCA, you're quiet. I don't get it...

Cheers,

MasterGT

I know there are several GT members playing Forza online. Keep in mind I like Toca 3 a LOT but there just isnt anyone online for this game.

there just isnt anyone online for this game.
That is not true!

If you can't find players, then I don't know what's wrong. There are always races to join and players enter rooms I am in looking for action. They may not always like what we do (long races), but they are free to create their own action.

Cheers,

MasterGT
