I have a better idea, why don't you just play Project Gotham 4 instead of Gran Turismo since it has so many more features than Gran Turismo? Is that not a good idea?

Some people seem to think that the PS3 is some magic device that can do everything, it can't, trade offs have to be made, Gran Turismo makes those trade offs to favour realism of physics etc, Project Gotham goes the other way, towards looking pretty, but hasn't much in terms of real physics.

You can't have everything, I mean it's taken 5 years to get this far, how long are people prepared to wait for a few little things like skidmarks and reverse lights, however nice they may be, this game needs to be finalised and released, now.

Ugh.

Is there any truth to that "We'll release it by the end of the year." remark?

There better not be !, but to be honest, I wouldn't put it past Sony to pull a stunt like that, they seem to be holding GT5 like an ace in the pack, that might be good news, or it might be bad, maybe they think all this hype surrounding GT5 will be good for their share prices?

On the other hand, could they be reluctant to release GT5 because they know it isn't up to peoples expectations? In which case, good bye share prices.

I'm probably talking out of my arse here, and I sincerely hope I am, but something just doesn't smell right to me.

No, someone translated it wrong I think. I think what really was said was that the game will release later this year.

right sorry. Thought he said will release at the end of the year which is how most were translating it.

Sorry, does Xbox have bluetooth? Can you play games from your computer on an Xbox? Can Xbox play blu-ray? Can you put a manufacturer supported OS on an Xbox? Does Xbox have a built in wireless card?

I've been watching BTCC on speed channel for the past 2 weeks and honestly, I can't agree with you. It's not boring but if this is as exciting as it gets, racing is in trouble.

The highlights of the BTCC are far better than anything I've ever seen in an American touring car race

I think you misunderstood, what I meant was that the PS3 has it's limits as to what it can achieve, obviously it has more features than the Xbox, I didn't even mention the Xbox.

But it does have it's limitations, otherwise there would be no need for a PS4 and so on, I meant that PD are getting the max out of the PS3, somethings have to be sacraficed, I would rather they sacraficed skidmarks in favour of Anti Aliasing for example, thats all I meant.

PS, you can't put another OS on the PS3 Slim.

That, my friend, is an understatement. I'd call that jumping on comments that were never....commented on. I'm sure we know what intention was held there.

But you can if you buy the limited edition 160gb fat one which I got with two additional games for the same price on boxing day from Best Buy. They also sell it on Playstation's website.

Only one OS, for shame. They should stop starving the poor thing. :)

Back on the day/night/weather cycling, is there anyone here who can actually give us an answer about the amount of resources used for such a thing.

That's still not the slim though lol.

I'm off to youtube to look for some footage <(that was my justification of posting so it was still on topic)

I wish I knew Japanese. Slow news from TAS, I hope there are some to come and that all the hype wasn't for nothing.

Ya, but a smart buyer would go for a fat one if intended for alternate OS purposes.
(I know I'm being a jerk)

I would only go for a launch "fat one", the later "fat ones" seem to be the ones with the most faults, atleast thats the perception I got when deciding wether to buy a Slim or Fat for my kids for Christmas, and I did alot of digging about online.

Linux sucked on the ps3 unfortunately. (I know I'm being pedantic)

I tried yellowdog, was slow as with only a couple of apps running and the wireless connection kept breaking. Mind you, I don't know much about linux so there were probably ways to fix it.

My first-gen Fat PS3 died last night, after 3 years of hard use. Will likely be picking up a Slim one to replace it. Yeah, I know I'm losing a couple of USB ports and memory stick slots, but the faster Cell processor should pay off. I know I lose PS2 backwards-compatibility as well but I think I've used the PS3 to play PS2 games only a handful of times.

Anyone know how to transfer old HDD data from a dead PS3 to a new one?

Hardware was crippled under linux and the ps3 wasn't designed very well for this sorta stuff. I think only half of it was accessible to yellow dog and all alternate OSes.
