I'm sorry but this is a pretty large problem with the game (if its true). What if you want to engage someone attacking from in front of you? You don't want to be messing about with camera views.

You press the change target button (the actual button evades me at the moment), and then the camera view changes. Simple.

Seriously, the probelms with HAWX are minor in my opinion. When I played it I found it thoroughly enjoyable and me and my brother couldn't put it down for weeks. Don't believe what they say about the storyline either, to be honest I thought it was interesting even if the outcome was obvious.

Yeah, but to be honest when was the last time you played a Flight game for its story? Rarely do any of them get it right so its not something that really ruins the experience for me. Though I do find the general story to the Ghost Recon stuff a tad OTT and All-American even for a supposed Tom Clancy related game.

I don't think its worth the money at the moment though, considering what has been said it doesn't sound like it really beats AC in any area and AC5 is a hell of a lot cheaper. I'll leave it for when it drops in price at a later point in time.

You could always try the HAWX demo on the PSN store. It's been up for quite awhile, that should give a better impression of the game. 👍

I just did actually, and I'm not overly impressed. The "assistance off" mode is a little annoying in that it looks fancy and makes it easier to dodge missiles but its hard to aim anything at all and you're constantly in stalls half the time. The assistance on mode is the opposite, no stalling but a hell of a lot easier to play.

I thought this mode would basically just be a slight change in performance from the normal view, keeping the HUD. But no, its some crazy cinema camera that really takes away too much of the immersion and makes the game a little too difficult to play.
I can see where they were trying to go with this mode, its similar to the system Warhawk has, except in that game its a lot smoother transition between the two and it isn't a permanent camera view, purely a "dodge the missiles" view.

But ignoring this weird feature, the game itself is ok. It basically plays like a Ace Combat clone and the planes, weapons and overall layout is essentially the same. But because its basically the same leaves me asking what is different or better about this game? Well, like you mentioned earlier, it has a story....but from what I've experienced its like I expected. Smart-ass pilots whiney-voiced are instantly annoying.

The numerous help functions are good I suppose for new players but don't add anything for me, I don't really need to have my hand-held when it comes to getting behind an enemy plane or attacking a tank in a covered position. But its irrelevant anyway because I can just not use them, but its nice that they are there for those who lack some common sense, lol.
The graphics are ok too, not really better or worse than AC.
General gameplay is the same though the planes are a little too arcade like a little too much. Not really bothered about this, kind of "meh" thing.

From just the demo it seems like a predominately ok game. Its not bad but not particularly good either. I feel I should give this game more chance but its not really giving me anything to use that AC doesn't do better.
I would probably recommend it to those who haven't played any flight games before and aren't really interested in super-realism but for me as a long time player of console flight games it lacks something to define it against its competitors.

Oh, and before anyone jumps down my neck over this, yes I am being really harsh here but, eh, what can I say? Designing games myself lets me see some flaws in other people's designs.

hmmm.. it seems that doing the challenges is the best way to accumulate exp and unlock planes. also, remember to unlock the exclusive content from extras., get's you couple sweet planes.. and three more if you find the cheat codes. ;)

I agree its not as good as ace combat, however as we are not exactly drowning in flight games for the ps3 I would recommend it!

Assistance off can bugger off and die though in my opinion

Mmhmm.. Ace Combat would be better than this.. hear me, Sony? bribe the Capcom to make AC for both PS3 and fixbox.

oh hey, there's a new update for this game :D

Don't you mean Namco? Can't be too hard since Tekken 6 is going to both platforms.

Namco.. Capcom.. they both make arcade games. but yeah, it should be done. more money for them since on PS-platform they would already have a loyal fanbase to for their product.

i got hawx and i must say... i love it. ive been waiting for a flight game like this. i was in a battle online that was 2 hours long.... i was in the F22 raptor.

I'm thinking of picking HAWX up if I can find it for $40 or so anywhere. I played the demo, and actually enjoyed it even though I prefer flight sims over arcade flight games. Assistance OFF mode was actually incredibly easy and it amazed me how easy it was to perform some crazy maneuvers.

Edit: Awesome, Target has it for $37 this week. I think I'm psychic.

Just picked it up for $38. Gonna play the singleplayer a bit until I'm a higher level, then probably gonna hop online.

I have fully completed the game, but not all planes, since they simply can not be unlocked during campaign due the fact that they are worth of a lot EXP. also, some planes are acquired as downloadable content

Seriously, the Draken is good enough to give F-22 a run for it's money, in the game at least :D

No, draken is a lot worst than F22, i think, draken it's older than F22 and it's not stealth... I think F22 its a lot better than Draken, just like the F4F for the A6MZero, can out-run, out-climb and out-turn the Draken.
I don't know if in Tom clancy's HAWX, what i said its true, but in reality its 100% true.

By the way, if Ace combat for ps3 falls this year, when, what month? And are you sure theres a AC for PS3?

agreed on the draken vs raptor... a lot of times its the skill of the pilot vs superior aircraft... but from what ive heard the raptor can enter a 4 on 1 battle and emerge the winner without breaking a sweat

The only Aircraft i know that can take out F22 is the Russian SU47 Berkut, in this kind of fight, the skills of the pilots are the most important part of the dogfight...
Great fighter the SU47...

Agreed... Its a very big leap in aircraft design and technology... Anyways back on hawx... I finally got the collision warning challenge done. As of this post I'm at the level 29

Just bought H.A.W.X. 2, installing as I type this. Does anyone else have it yet?

Rented HAWX. As usual, just another example of how a potentially fantastic flight sim is dumbed down to appeal to the majority of gamers.
Answer me this: The Clancy franchise is all about detailed, involving simulations of military scenarios, correct? So why make the HAWX game little more than an arcade blast that is about as deep as a teaspoon of water?

Because there's no such controller for PS3 that could handle all that tinkering needed for proper sim..

This is not true. IL-2 Birds of prey for the ps3, you can use any pc flightstick with this game. So they could make this possible for H.A.W.X.

If we're speaking of sims, then CFS3 comes to mind. Compared to that, HAWX and Ace Combats are strictly arcade flyers.. True, HAWX seems to have option for flight stick, but they seem to be certain models, it's not sure if all sticks work.. *crosses fingers that his Logitech Extreme 3D Pro would work*

IL-2 I think is the perfect example of how do do flight sims for consoles. Put simply, it's as real as you want it to be: there are options for pure arcade right up to hardcore simulation(although not too hardcore - you really need a pc keyboard for that to access all the controls needed).
If only they would make a modern day jet sim as good as this.
The last decent one I played was Eagle One on the PS1.

Okay, completed HAWX 2. It was surprisingly hard even on easy level, mostly because of the time limits in some missions. But the enemy AI was pretty good too. They really make the best use out of the speed or supermanouverability, which ever their planes have. in survival mode, I usually found myself in a stall, facing off against either Terminator or Berkut, which was in stall as well, and in such close range that all we could do was fire our guns. Scene reminded me of the Matrix bullet-time with agent Smith :D Good times.. the online is as hectic as ever, and I can hardly wait unlocking F22 Raptor, MiG-1.44 PAK-FA or A-10.. :trouble:
