If you can understand lighting, reflections, cars and everything else you'll be on your way to making some really good stuff otherwise you'll just be named as a tracer.

*cough*Perspective*cough* :p

Regarding me, that is. :D

Looking sweet Shant! Damn 👍 My lecturer at uni walked past just as i was looking at it and said it looked amazing :p

Just finished this customised Audi TT, a lot of airbrushing... and i did the lights :D

Enjoy

HOLY CRAP!

That looks awesome man! I love the colours, beautiful!

My only critiscm (sp?) = The rear rim (at one particular part) looks a bit off, but it's probably just a small problem, nevermind that.

Oh, and say thank you to your uni lecturer. :p

Hehe thanks. Yeah the rear wheel was a problem when making it. Probably due to the fact that i added those rims off a scooby before vectoring it, so the perspective is up the spout.

I'm sorry, but Mr. ALPHA is not in right now. Would you like to leave a message, so he could pwn you A.S.A.P? :)

ALPHA - you do know this is all a joke, and well, we're not trying to mock you or anything, but the comments you give are really great, and I personally enjoy reading them. It's like a third eye which spys on you, seeing all the corners you cut and stuff. :odd: & :nervous: & :scared:

Thank you ALPHA!!

Thats exactly the kind of thing I had to hear! I understand that making actual comments is a lot harder than just saying nice job, I read all your comments and hopefully they will help me become better. (I have a real problem looking at my own work and seeing what is wrong with it.)

So thanks again.

Donbenni, Man! That is seriously beautiful. You are amazing.

Um ok :p

You're fired! I got no message! Jokes of course.

:O - Yea, I'm getting tired of criticising because honestly it's really hard. You've got to be hard on yourself and say that something is bad or good. Believe it or not but I don't feel very happy about the comments I've been making. I feel so guilty because nobody comes along and laughs at me and goes "You suck big time ALPHAgigo c00n!"

Anyway just take that on board it's hard to be a critique.
Hey Alpha? Can I be pwned next? (with your criticism)
I just woke up! I'll do it like tomorrow, because that bike is absolutely amazing. I'm going to have to be very nit picky with it.

Merc

You could use this...

I erased the file I used to make it though, so I won't be editing that one again. I'm looking more for style criticism than errors (though error reporting is good as well.)

After going through this thread I feel so outclassed, here's my first real attempt at Vector art. I know the wheels suck majorly but I can be bothered looking for ones that are the same angle (the original pic had a moving car so I cant use it either)

toms.jpg

After a visit to the operation theater with some minor (or major) work done on the car, I present you, in it's full *cough* glory, the Tom's JGTC Supra!

I didn't submit it to dA yet, ALPHA better get here quick and pwn me because I've got school tomorrow and I will have no time to work on this piece, so whatever happens by tonight I will be posting it (on dA). :)

Note to ALPHA : That other Castrol decal is screwed up for good. I can't seem to get the text at the right perspective, I might consider removing it, or just leaving in that way. :grumpy: & :(

Crayola : For a first attempt, I would personally say that its quite okay. The shading work is nice, but as you said, the wheels really do suck. I tend to avoid vectoring pictues of moving cars for that reason (not being able to do the wheels properly). Other than that, I kinda like those lines on the road/hill, now that gives you an impression that the car is a moving object. 👍

*sits and waits for ALPHA to come*

How do you guys get such clean curves? and what are waypoints? Im currently working on my first attempt at a vector the outline should be posted by tomorrow because im kind of busy today. BTW Under18 I think it looks a lot more realistic as yours, and crayola thats reallly good for a first time i believe.

Finished the brakes... Yes, I'm a slacker. No cross drilled brakes...

What programs do you guys use to do these pics, because currently Im using flash because I can trace over the pic easily that way.

Most use Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Flash (*plus more i'm sure i've forgotten*)

I personally use Photoshop, but that's only because i know how to use it. If you know Flash use that.

Mr. E.... Looking awesome! :D

Wow, everyone seems to be getting so good at this, the craftmanship here is beautiful!!!

donbenni: as always, your vectors have that flawless touch.

under18carbon: wow, that's superb. Now only if it were a wallpaper, it would be even more kikass.

Mister E: that's one hell of a job on that bike, great work so far... keep it up! :D

I use Illstrator for the vectors, and use Photoshop to add finishing touches (borders, and minor work). :)

 That bike is looking fantastic. Love the details, and the front brakes still looks neat. :D

EDIT :

I could make one. :D

1600x1200 will do? You could always resize it later on. :)

Ok once again I'll take an ALPHA aproach to these but it won't be as good probably.

This goes for anyone doing these vectors but anywhere where there is parting lines like on the door if you add a little white strip it will pop that parting line out and make it look more realistic and done.

Hopefully you all can follow my directions because I'm to lazy to do a skematic like Alpha :banghead:

Donbenni that's a nice Audi there.

-If you add in the rest of the hood lines between the headlights it will look a bit more realistic and finished. The grill seems to be "floating" and the red part of the hood seem unfinished it might look better if some reflection or highlights are add??

-Offset that highlight line or streak line that goes from the glass on to the roof just a smuge and it will make the body look more separate from the glass.

-The bottom line on the right air intake is a little curved verus the straiter line on the left, can that be fixed to match better?

-Have everything under the right headlight shift forward more to show the bumper a little more because it looks like from the left headlight there should be a little bump.

-That curve to the bottom of the red part of the hood looks crooked or it curves up on the right a little too much.

-The slant line to the top of the right headlight could be a bit higher on the right where it goes toward the fender.

-The hood/fender line on the right seems a little off, more of a sharp curve towards the headlight.

-The rear fender as the inside curve of the wheel opening comes toward you it disapears into the line on top of that, might need to be more of a parallel line and then graduate into the other line lower towards the side skirt of the car. Or more like that front wheel opening?

The wheels are great and everything else looks good.

I'd agree a moving car is a lot hard and for this I give you credit.

-If you look at the side skirt where the top edge meets the bottom edge of the door that line pops out and you clearly see it's a separation of panels so if you put in a white strip like that with the black line in the door parting lines it will help make the car look more realistic.

-Around the glass putting that white line in might help make a separation between the glass and the body too.

-Where the glass and the rear engine cover meet it looks weird? The line from the glass goes straight into a parting line for the hood and if I remember the hood is at a little different angle than the glass line? No?

-The two wings look like they don't have enough detail in them or maybe the shadows aren't working that well? The arms to the top spoiler look flat they don't seem to have the feeling of thickness to them.

-The crease line to the right side of the license plate opening seems a little far over if you look at the end of the tail light on the left the left crease line to the license plate holder is a little after that. So for the right it would either line up with the beginning of the tail light or a little before it.

-There seems to be a little bump where the beginning of the front pillar and the roof meet up. Also the on the right back edge of the roof and glass meet.

-The black part of the wheels where it touches the rim edge could be more parallel even though the car is moving. May be also make circular lines and fade the "spoke" lines to show the wheels in movement?

I think that's about all that's needed?

I think ALPHA got most of this one but from the windshield forward the whole thing seems to be shifting to the left. The edge of the hood is not parellel to the windshield lines. Is this more the way the pic was taken? like a fisheye lens?

Finally Mister E... It's been looking good, I've been seeing the progress...

I'm not sure how the photo is but it seems like the seat area and the windshield area are a bit "blocky" it just looks like shapes more than shading. Example that front fender is great it looks so real. The headlights too, speaking of the headlights... when comparing the headlights to the body work, the body seems to not look as real. The white line I was talking about might help this.

Ok, that's it... I'm done... hope you guys don't get too mad at me as well as making stupid useless comments.

Nick 👍

BTW: feel free to disect my drawing if you want I'm sure it has many more problems than these. I just won't draw it over :P

You forget Paint Shop Pro and The GIMP. :grumpy:

Can't forget GIMP, sorry Shannon. Not too keen on PaintShop but yes, that should be included too.

Thanks for the interest, i'll just clear up a few things for. I traced the vector from a photo so the lines and everything are just as they are on the photo. The red section of the bonnet is all as one. There IS shading on the bonnet. Look closer. I agree the grille's a bit off, but hey, what can do? (rhetorical)

-Offset that highlight line or streak line that goes from the glass on to the roof just a smuge and it will make the body look more separate from the glass.

Groovy

That's how i wanted it to look, so no, it can't be fixed

I know, ta

Yep

Before saying that it should be fixed, consider that maybe it looks right. I think the problem is more the outline weight.

The wheels are great and everything else looks good.

Thank you, come again

Sorry to be an ass... i am one

sorry bout this but i noticed something else! :D there's an exhaust tip missing! the right one isnt there but i can understand how easy it is to miss things........:)

Hey, thanks a lot VIPfreak. I think I'll redo the seat and windshield in Photoshop, because Flash doesn't give me much control on the gradients. I'm also looking at ways to make the siding look more real. I can see a few things I need to touch up.

Yes, it is like a fisheye lens, but I think I could fix that. In a way, it does look a bit weird. Thanks for pointing that out. :)

1600x1200, would work great. It's a nice pic, high res is the best way to show it off.

Much closer to being done, but still not done. I'll link because the pic is huge. I didn't fix the seat or the windscreen yet, and the turn signals are puke worthy, but other than that I think it turned out ok. Radial gradients worked great for the tires (extremely easy.)

T3h Huge!

Nice work, Mister E! That's awesome worthy. Do you by chance have a deviantart site? You should get one. People on the site would bowdown to that.

hey mister e toyo;s right thats some good work, where do you make your lines?
