ok...even though it started off rough, that episode was pretty good. Rutledge as the interviewer was pretty great, I gotta say. he was MUUUUUUCCCCCH better than Ferrara as interviewer.

Gotta say this was much better than the first episode. The hosts are letting a bit of personality come out. I see a hint of the show developing its own voice. I'm cautiously optimistic.

For this show to succeed, they need to give it time. The most important aspect of the original Top Gear is the chemistry of the hosts. And that can't be rushed or manufactured.

Yea, but they like each other very much (Brits). Here they seem to be forced together, and not really get along.

When they can grow into having chemistry, it just seems they don't have common ground.

Agreed^^^^. A lot of improvement from the first episode. Hopefully they continue. And like I said before the UK Top Gear was pretty terrible when it first came out. Go back and watch some of the first season episodes on the web. As we all know now the UK show is amazing, but that chemistry took time.

Show is terrible, complete rip off of the BBC Top Gear. Even the same segments. That said, terrible Top Gear is better than no Top Gear so I will continue to watch

It absolutely is a rip off of the BBC original. But then it's not for us who are already fans of the original and know where to watch it. This is for a new audience who haven't seen these segments and stunts, or even the formula.

Top Gear USA has big shoes to fill and I feel bad for it being compared to the original. It's JV vs Varsity.

And yes, Terrible Top Gear is better than none. It will henceforth be known as TTG.

Yes but it is Top Gear and associated with the Brits. So of course it'll have the same segments just like the Australian version(already better than that). Just like other places have their own versions of American Idol that are produced by the same group.

Everyone is saying give it time, why? The blueprint for an excellent show is out there and it's not even being looked at. They should be copying what the UK version is/has done but with an American tilt. So far MOST of the cars are the same ones that have been on the UK version. Put some Vettes, Challengers, Mustangs, etc... on here and, maybe, the American gearheads will watch. Until then it's like watching Car & Driver TV. Tanner is fine, the other two are clowns, sad clowns not funny ones. Tim Allen and Chris Titus would have been great on this show, car guys first and comedians second.

The funny thing is people think theyre supporting Clarkson, Hammond, and May by not watching Top Gear USA. When in fact, their doing just the opposite. If you don't think the three Brits have a vested interest in the success of Top Gear USA then your misinformed. They very much want Top Gear USA to be a success.

And just because they have a blue print doesn't mean it's going to be great straight out. Chemistry between the hosts takes a while. It took UK a few seasons before they had any chemistry. When it first came out the three hosts we love were terrible! Go back and watch the episodes.

It's like baking a cake. Just because you have all the ingredients, doesn't mean you have a cake. You still need to bake the cake at the proper temperature and for the correct amount of time for it to come out just right. This is the same principle. They have all the elements of a great show, now they just need time to make it their own. That's why people are saying give it some time.

Highly disappointed with the hosts [and I am a Tanner Foust fan] he is so dead pan and lacks any excitement, the content has no originality even the set is a total replication of the original and the way they seem to go out of their way to throw jabs at the Brits is not funny and seems forced just to copy the cracks that Clarkson and the guys threw at Americans and I am 100% American.

Hopefully it gets better but I won't hold my breath.

Just watched the recent episode with the $1000 challange. I loved it. It wasn't like the TG:UK challanges, but that's good because I don't want it to be a copy. Adam's jump in the Caddy was pretty funny and the rest of it was pretty good too. I'll be watching for the rest of the season for sure.

episode 5, A glimpse at how fast this show has accelerated in 5 short eps, I have to say, i fell out of my chair laughing at the "Road master" flaunting, The entire eppisode, was halarious and highly enjoyable, It felt like "top gear" 3 middle aged men acting like idiots and having a good time, You witnessed wood, faust, farerra actually "interact" with each other, it did not come off as scripted, They just looked like they were having a good time, egging, ramming, crashing, driving blinde, making fun of each other cars and there drivers, The little touches like the music were excelent, While adams 1970 boa-cutlass supreme was on screen you heard classic 70s motown hustle funk, When the "road master" was on screen you heard Holiday road from the first national lampoons vations movie, then when tanners Pontiac was on screen you heard...thoughs crazy 80 synthesizers...the challenges, while ripped straight from the UK version, were halarious, i admit the bowling ball was a bit ackward at first, But after adam through it at the back of tanners "plastic" window in a feat of revenge for tanners pontiac slamming into his beautiful cutlass supreme, tanner sarcastically explained why it didnt shatter which was hilarious and a nice touch, the egg on face challenge, while short was also entertaining, but i was hoping a pannel or 2 would fall off, the soda on skid pad test was briliant, really brought in the use of cup holders, the camera angles the dialouge about the cars was excelent, the constant of casually slamming and ramming each others cars and how they felt about there cars was halarious, intresting and informing. especially after tanners fiero lost it's ebrake due to the past GM recall and rammed into adams cutluss supreme.. in all this.... This eppisode really drastically changed my view on this show...it went from, they seriously need to cancel to, Damn i cant wait to watch next weeks eppisode,

In top gear...its not really about the cars...challenges...etc, it's about three middle aged men acting like ... Well 3 idiotic yet lovable middle aged men... and i have to say, This eppisode brought home the bacon.

And like wood say's, it's very important to do your routine knee dips before a hardy good ole boys challenge.

As for the tony hawk interview. Thank you so much for replacing adam with wood...he is just better all around, He really gets in deep with the star, personal, past present future intresting side toppics, Even turns to the audience and interacts with them, i really enjoyed the interview, as well as the dramatic (jeremy clarkson) style lead up to revealing the stars time, which actually made tony "lean forward" Well played wood, well played.

I give this eppisode a solid 9.5 really looking forward to next weeks.

things that impressed me.

They interact like, They are actually having a good time, enjoy their cars, bragging about them, calling out major flaws on each others cars,

character interaction with automobile, ramming, side swiping, egging, the bowling ball.

Routine knee dips.

Rocking 305.

Mighty road master.

Music choise

Character atmosphere and interaction.

Torque.

They shouldn't bring back the Roadmaster. That's what the Cadillac CTS-V is for. Fast and spacious.

And instead of the Fiero, I think the '87 Buick GNX Turbo should've been a contender.

Eh, Do you really want to see a buick GNX get smashed up? because all of thoughs did.. i'm glad they didn't drive one.

I was interested in seeing how they 'Americanized' the show. I think they did a decent job, you have to expect some similarities, it is called Top Gear after all.

I love it, episode one was weak, but I'm definitely growing on this show, and I'm glad it's weekly and likely more episodes per season than BBC Top Gear. Heck, the first season of the Office was a BLATANT rip off of the BBC verison, and after season two it found it's own footing and even managed to surpass the original in some aspsects. (Not now though, that show should just die)

I've watched the US series and also all of the Aus shows and the problem is they're making the show from a mould. The UK show works(ed) so well because it was fresh and new. It was like a lads mag on the tellie minus the soft porn.

Like has been said the first few seasons weren't perfect. The Aus one has only just started to get into it's stride with the Ashes special and they seem to have found a trio that works. The US one will be the same, I don't see the line up staying the same for season 2.

At the end of the day it's a show about cars and the rest is just gravy.

I just finished watching the latest episode only to hear them tell Brett Michaels they were honored he was the final guest of the season :(

Well that's weird, cause in last weeks episode they thanked Brett Michaels for being the last guest of the season, and this week is a new episode in Alaska. Maybe they filmed more episodes after the success of the pilot?

I will say the cast is growing on me, and the light they're shining on American made cars is nice (Though after the CRZ showing in SF I'm test driving one of those at the end of the month when my local Honda dealership gets one in stock)

Maybe by last guest of the season they mean Brett was the last "Big Star, Little Car" of the season?

The show is definately getting better, the Alaska episode was pretty good.

Well, James May makes it official; he hates the host of the American Top Gear.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring...ear-US-why-I-hate-the-presenters-already.html

But it isn't why you might think.

Wow, that was boring.

The guy has a face for radio and a prose for internet blogging and yet he's on one of the most watched shows in the world and writes in what I think is the most popular broadsheet. Go figure.

At least we can all go to hell for laughing at him acting like he has autism on the show 👍

well you do know that Top Gear USA is still run by BBC?? (from what ive heard)

and i think that they are just showing Top Gear in American terms, like price and point of view. also the Alaska special was there best one yet, the lion sound effects was funny

Obviously there going to copy what UK Top Gear does, seeing as there the exact same show with different hosts. After about the third episode it started to get better IMO. They already have a lot of pressure on there shoulder seeing as the other US attempts were canceled, and I mean no one can live up to the UK hosts.

I am a huge fan of Top Gear. Actually made a record of all seasons of the show and checking off which one's I have seen - nearly 75% of them now.

Because of this fandom of the U.K. show, it was difficult to see the same show brought to the states with the personality stripped out of it. The first three U.S. shows were difficult to watch. Since then, I have laughed during every one of them. That is the sign for me that I will stay with it. Once the producers let them start ripping on each other, they started to gel. The U.K. version didn't hit a home run in the first year either and replaced some hosts.

Love the U.K. Top Gear.
Liking the U.S. Top Gear.
