Isn't one of the MG6's supposedly slightly bent? If so that won't be helping, along with the new RML components they added this year but failed to test.

I think that Warren Scott / 888 / BMR have some serious money issues.

Well I haven't heard about any of the MG's being bent, but with the huge shunt Dan Lloyd's MG had at Thruxton, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the bent MG.

With regards to Triple Eight themselves, I know they have a new team principal; Nico Ferrari who's taken over from Ian Harrison, what the reasons behind that change are I don't know. They've certainly been in the shadows this year compared to the other "big" teams, and the MG6 is getting on a bit, along with the change to RML parts, but have definitely been struggling. But considering their size as a team, I'd be surprised if suddenly they had money issues, but they haven't been at their best the past couple of years, so who knows.

As for BMR, well that's a funny one, considering how much they've been struggling with the Levorgs (well 3 of them anyway), and I know they've had boost changes and and another change to reduce the advantage they had with a lower CoG due to Boxer unit, but Ash seems miles away compared to rest. And after Jason's crash at Brands, his Levorg hasn't been right because apparently BMR haven't had the time/nor parts to replace/re-build his car. But with a manufacturer backing thanks to Subaru, I wouldn't have though cash would be an issue as much as it used to for them.

It would appear that manufacturer backing isn't quite what it used to be. I don't think the manufacturers are putting forward anyone ear the kinda capital that they did back in the good ol' days.

I'm not shocked at the lack of pace from the 888 MG6. It needs a driver that can thoroughly wring its neck to extract it's potential performance. However the change to RML parts this year has probably hurt the car even further, couple that with the lack of budget, a lack of testing and the drivers..... it's hardly surprising that it can't shine anymore, the recipe isn't correct.

I think that Warren Scott has bitten off more than he can chew. He has too many cars on the grid.

Fair point I guess, sort of overestimated the effect a Manufacture backing would have nowadays, and I'd definitely say Warren has more cars than he needs. To be quite honest, with no disrespect to James Cole or Josh Price, Warren would be perhaps better off having Sutton and Plato in the two cars.
Would hardly be a bad paring considering the ability of the two drivers, and then the two cars would prove to be useful for parts and what not.

But going back to 888, they're certainly in a little bit of dilemma, the car is aged, a change to RML parts isn't paying off, butto be fair a Taylor-Smith, Cook driver paring is pretty decent IMO. However, that said, they could do with a freshen up, the MG6 is getting on a bit and they could do with a new car deal. Although I can't think of another manufacturer right now, who'd be vying to buy in, but it'd seem the cash is needed even at 888. But as you rightly say; the recipe certainly isn't right at the moment.

Personally I don't rate Taylor-Smith all that highly.

I think that MG have got more models in the pipeline, but that could be a year or two away and who knows whether or not MG will want to continue in the BTCC. The MG6 wasn't exactly a sales success for them, especially when compared to the MG3 which has been fairly good considering that they're essentially starting a company from scratch which harbours a poor reputation and is now owned by the Chinese. The MG6 is an old car, probably not the oldest on the grid though.

Didn't Plato even admit that the MG6 was a handful?

888 certainly do need help, either with additional funding (whether that's a manufacturer input or sponsor) or some quality expertise to aid the team going forward. I'd hate to see the 888 name disappear from the BTCC, but something is not right within the team and no doubt something will happen eventually, I just hope and pray that it's a positive step in the right direction. Personally I think that the issues start at the top, Warren shouldn't have took on 888 as well.

To be honest, I think 888 would be much better off getting a manufacturer deal from someone other than MG, if they were to do so. Though what I find odd, is that it's all been kept so quiet, and that 888 have been very quiet themselves, as clearly things aren't 100%. Also completely forgot, until you mentioned it, that Warren Scott formed alliances with 888. Reminded me to read a www.motorsport.com article (Edit: Here's that article https://www.motorsport.com/btcc/news/mg-admits-lack-of-driver-continuity-an-issue-671249/), where Ian Harrison mentioned he did it to "..try and cut our costs", which was early last year, so clearly there's been some issues for a while.

As you say quite rightly, it'd be a big shame for 888 to disappear from the BTCC (though unlikely IMO), however the last time they won the drivers title was 2008, so things have been lean. Generally, both from a leadership and engineering stand point, there needs to be a rejigging (and a cash injection) to move things on. And yes Warren has definitely took on a work load he didn't need with 888, as it could prove costly for him too, mind 888 don't have much choice.

Dan Lloyd P2 in Q1. I know it's only Q1 but maybe it points out something with the MG.

P2 now after Kajaia lap disallowed.

Chaos at Croft and I'm teallly worried about about the condition of a few of the drivers, massive impacts in the doors and I'm not sure which cars are LHD and RHD.

Gow reporting that Taylor-Smith was briefly knocked unconscious and is being treated in the medical centre, Jeff Smith needed cut out of the car and is to be transferred to hospital. Davenport also needing to be cut out due to compression of the chassis.

Horrifying stuff. :nervous:

Jesus. I mean, it's a bad situation with the Focus, but it's like curling. Just so many cars sliding about.

I see that is was pretty rainy too.

It was a combination of rain and oil triggered when Davenport slid off at the chicane and damaged the car enough to reportedly rip an oil line and dump fluid on the fastest part of the circuit.

Internal bleeding for davenport, broken arm and chest injuries for Jeff smith no news on Aron

Serious injury there. We've seen nasty crashes with the driver get out without a scratch. Hope he recovers well.

Jesus wept, that looked horrendous . There's barely anything left of Davenports Focus, the it's bent and twisted so the size of the impact, and Jeff's is similarly awful.

Good to see Árón is okay, thought's do go to Jeff, Luke Davenport and their families, internal bleeding can be a really serious thing, so I hope it isn't too bad :(.

It really is an unfortunate place for such an accident to occur, what with the wet weather and to compound it, oil from a broken oil line, all at a very fast part of the circuit, between Barcroft and Sunny in.

Just been catching up on the qualifying so had no idea there was such a big set of crashes. Some really really nasty injuries. Hope we can see them all racing again before the end of the year.

7 broken ribs, some multiple and both shoulders dislocated. That's one of the biggest (non-fatal) injures I've seen for a while!

Anyone else finding btcc and it's support races extraordinarily violent this year? Just the luck of the draw in some places but damn there's been some horrors.

Is it time that marshalls with a certain amount of experience are able to call for a red flag?

It appears that Davenport is in an induced coma at the moment, so I'll remove the video - although it does not show what happened to his car.

I understand BTCC must protect their image but they seem to keen to cover over any bad news, at Thruxton the drivers were scared to say on ITV that the track is a dangerous mess, then they've just interviewed a doctor who worded Luke Davenport's injuries to sound like he was having a nap rather than being in a coma.
