Personally I prefer games with trophies which reward skill rather than progression. There is little skill involved in winning 10 single-player races, everyone will get that trophy, winning 100 online races however, is something which demands a higher level of skill.

Does it really take skill, or just a group of people using common sense? A mate of mine has an Xbox 360, and he is a total gamerscore nut. He has maxed out games with achievements that are way beyond his skill level. All it takes is a group of friends to get together and organise events where everybody helps each other get the respective achievement/trophy. Cheating? Not really, but they got the bragging rights regardless. This is why I don't care at all about them. If I get a trophy, great. If not, great, I'll enjoy the game anyway.

True, although I would bet that the majority of members here on GTPlanet will be no better than your average Joe. I know I'm not!
 
I'm certain GT5 has trophies for 24h races as paulpg87 mentioned, if it includes them...

True, but if they're anything like the majority of the more casual players who populate GT5P online... as soon as they realize they're not competitive they usually drop out. Which is incredibly disappointing. People who just play "racing games" in general usually don't want to waste time if they're not winning, it seems...

online trophies shouldn't exist, a player must have the possibility to get a platinum in a game even if he doesn't have an internet connection.. and however they sucks cause most of the people quit when losing and cheat or play dirt.
 
As long as they have no 'get in the top 100' type online trophies i will be happy.

While I am also not a fan of online Trophies (mostly because you can cheat them or they are ridiculously hard to get), may I ask you "why?" at the bold part? Something like "win an online race" is Trophy "worthy" in my opinion.

Don't really care for them though, I would rather see in-game unlockables and Easter Eggs.

The online trophies should be endurance based (drive so many laps, make so many CLEAN passes etc.) It forces you to try to be competitive online without allowing ram-happy gits to cheat them. Also, there should be specific trophies (win the JGTC in a Honda, become WRC champion in an Impreza, etc.) and on a side notem just to make online more fun, those who repeatedly causr crashes should get big red X's next to their names just so we know they're not clean
 
i'm just afraid that they might actually have a trophy to drive all 1000+ cars, that should be a platinum in itself, lol

Haha that would be a wicked trophy. One of the things i'm mostly looking forward to in GT5 is the trophies, they'll be good fun to try and get, hopefully they put some fun ones in there like what has been said on here.

haha I see this same thing from many serious PC sim racers, too. It is very sad behaviour imho, ymmv. I often see many of them spin or crash and lap 1 and if they do not have a chance of winning they quit and wait for next race! LOL
 
I'm not much of a trophy hunter myself (a meager level 13) but I'm secretly hoping that GT5 will have some sadistically difficult trophies. :crazy:

If there's one game that deserves to have a rare platinum, it's this one. I do however hope that the trophies will mostly be offline-ones, I've had almost nothing but bad experiences with online trophies.

I also hope they don't have any 24 hr racing trophies but if they do, oh well. I am not one that needs to get all the trophies. I still have fun going after some of the more sane ones.

On the more serious side, I completely agree with the online aspect of trophies, and who said staying up 24H in your living room was not sane? :dopey:
