twist on the ferrari fiasco

Hi peeps

i been looking at all the posts on the ferrari issue and i couldnt find anything directly relating to this but as i was watching the F1 on sunday something struck me, everyone asks why PD didnt include ferrari and the answer appears to be that PD didnt want to pay the licensing fees or maybe ferrari didnt want them in the game but.......

Ferrari F1 cars have Fiat badges on them! so if PD can get the fiat licensing and ferrari is part of fiat then surely ferrari's should have been in the game? im quite happy with the cars in GT4 but just seems a bit odd to me.

Fiat in game is totally different to FIAT group (May not be correct title).

It's like saying you sign one GM company and you get them all. However, Saab wasn't in the game so go figure.

By the same thinking, we should have got Lambourghini because it is owned by VW.
 
No, EA, until recently atleast, held the rights to Ferrari, aswell as Porsche and Lambourghini. However, these licenses ran out sometime at the beginning of this year, too late for GT4, but it gived PD plenty of time to try and get them for GT5. :D
 
Well Fiat Group owns Ferrari, not Fiat Autos. Both are subsidaries of Fiat Group, but PD only got licenses for Fiat Autos, not the whole of Fiat Group, therefore could not include Ferrari.

To be exact, Lamborghini is part of Audi's brand group as is Seat and Audi itself. Audi is part of Volkswagen Group. The other part of Volkswagen Group is naturally Volkswagen which includes Skoda, Bentley and Bugatti brands along with Volkswagen ofcourse. :crazy:
 
Fiat may own Ferrari, but they're on sort of a long leash. They pretty much get to do their own thing. The 'Prancing Horse' has Maserati as well, and the two of them are not really affected by Fiat's financial woes(thank goodness). So unless PD can get Ferrari, you can forget about any Masers as well.

As for Porsche, they are still independent, although they've collaborated with the VAG several times. The Porsche Cayenne/VW Touareg/Audi Q7 is the most recent example.

Not anymore they aren't :) They fall under the Alfa Romeo umbrella now, so don't be completely surprised if they suffer a similar fate, i.e. Maserati turns into a range of badge engineered Fiats with unique heads on generic V6 engines, and 4wd because, well, FF just won't sell in a Maser but the common platforms the new Masers will be based on are designed for transverse engines so RWD is not an option. It breaks my heart every time I see a front wheel drive GT, GTV and Spider. Those badges used to be attached to SPORTS cars in the old days. Then again, at least the new ones don't turn to rust before your eyes.

Please excuse me for a few minutes, I need to go away and cry for a while.
 
It's too bad the opposite didn't happen with that Maserati/Alfa arrangement. The Alfas could have been downmarket/downsized Maseratis, a bit likt how some VWs are supposed to be like cheaper Audis.. That'd be awesome.

I can only dream.... That 8C concept they showed one or two years ago only made me cry even more. It was like they were saying "Hey everyone, look at what we would be doing if let off our leash. Now please come and buy one of our torque steering nose heavy well dressed and nice sounding Fiats!"

Heress the storey, until last year, EA owned the rights to Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini, these were exclusive licenses so any company that wanted to include these cars in a game needed to pay off both the marquee in question AND EA. Last year PD was in talkis with Ferrari about including them in GT4, an agreement wa alomost made, but Sony wouldn't provide the money for the license, they said it was too expensive. What they probably did, is look at the cost of the licese and say, "how many more copies of GT4 will including this license sell?:", after hours of research they'll have come to the conclusion that it ouldn't sell enough extra copies of GT4 to make up for the cost of the license, simple as that.

Also I noticed a few comments like Ferrari are owned by FIAT so they should be allowed in. No they shouldn't, regardless of who owns who, each company is still a seperate company with a seperate badge and for each of these you'd need a different license. Fiat auto's don't actually own Ferrari, the FIAT group does, the FIAT group owns FIAT auto's but FIAT autlo's don't own Ferrari. Onto the VAG (VW Audi Group), they own loads of companies including Lamborghini and Bugatti, why couldn't these two companies be included, because they are still seperate marquees to VW or Audi, even having a VW license doesn't automatically give you an Audi license, having a Ford license doesn't give you a Jaguar or a Mazda one ect.

No, Sony is a big corporation, they'll spend hours on something like that even if they don't have to they'll have to go through so many procedures and through all the right channels.
 
i totally agree with you "Live 4 speed"

I mean if you are a gt4 fanatic you dont look into what cars are in the game becuase you will buy it anyway.

You wouldnt buy the game just because it had Ferrari's in it.

Anyways Ferrari are overated Zonda is the new Italian supercar now. :)

HOLD up ferraris are over-rated nooo way, zonda cannot compare to the quality and craftmanship that is behind a ferrari. Also zondas are extremely ugly. if look at a ferrari u can see how beautiful it is, and im not sayin all of this cuz im some super ferrari fan. Its just true...plus just because zondas are a little bit new to the market dont mean they are the "new italian supercar''.

I think that's open to debate too. The only thing for sure in this argument is that Zondas are not the "OLD Italian supercar".

As for the alleged beauty of Ferrari, they haven't really made me take notice since the 456 (the first one with the bonnet vents) and maybe the 355 spider. Oh, and the 550 Barchetta was quite good looking. But the current models all look very blobby in comparison. And when compared to their heritage, well, a 288 GTO makes a 360 look like an old Hyundai. And if curves really are your thing, the 330 P4 and 250 Spider California show how curves should be done.

But that's all just opinion. And as for Zonda, remember that Lamborghini was the new upstart less than 50 years ago. It can be done.
 
"Beautiful" is not a word I would use for the Enzo, 612 Scaglietti, or upcoming 600 Imola. They haven't made a really good-looking car since the 456M.

yes u have a pointthe 612 is not very attractive but im mainly talkin about the the sports ones. like the ferrari 360 cs
 
The 355 and Testarossa were the last of the GREAT looking Ferrari's. I wouldn't call any Ferrari underrated though, when you buy a Ferrari you're buying a piece of history, something to be proud of, and thoes engine notes, oh my god they're good. I like the Zonda a lot too though, I think the Zonda's great looking. I wouldn't buy a game jst becasue it has Ferrrai in it though.
 
personally i find the 360 to be sex on wheels.
one of the best *modern* designs i've seen.
and the fact that its form provides wingless downforce functionality is also a nice +

Actually, I think Pagani would have much more craftsmenship on their cars.
Ferrari usually mass produces their cars, trying to get every car on their lines off them ASAP to get to the owners (Who in 3 months will return it with only 500 miles :ouch: ), althought, that doesn't mean they don't spend countless hours in their work.

IMO, I think Paganis are bit more on the craftsmenship side and probably have more quality to them than some of today's Ferraris.

However, I think one of the last great looking ones were the Maranellos.
