Yeah I think I'm going to ditch the factory cluster idea and just build a GT3 Cup car replica with the digital instruments. That way it would cover any race car I'm using. Need help finding a suitable digital LCD to use with revburner that matches kinda the GT3 unit. If anyone has any info its greatly appreciated.

I have taken a look at the Rev Burner specs so if you still want to go with analogue gauges i have the solution.
you will require two rev burners to run a tach and speedo.
if interested send me a pm.

You can use an iPad to run a digital dash, you will not need a rev burner. Rev burners are needed for analogue gauges.

Dave do you have connected analogue gauges on your rig? What game(s) are you racing these days?

OK, since i'm so new to this, this is what I gather so far.

Revburner will run digital but not analog
Analog guages will not work with Revburner without a hac
I can use an Ipad as a digital dashboard? How?

I have no idea what I'm doing LOL.

I'm good at fabricating and projection setups but this has my head spinning. Novadave I'm going to PM you for some help. Any help from anybody else is appreciated. I'll be running all the major PC sims. I'll build a kickass cockpit, I just need this to get squared away.

Thanks

The Rev Burner will work with Electronic Analogue Gauges.
i will create the schematics you need.

Hey Left.
my Race Season in real life has started so i haven`t had the chance to finish my gauge setup - i have designed a dash cluster and am going with Autometer Gauges for the accuracy . i was going to create a schematic for them any way so i might as well do it soon.
i still do regular races on Forza and now and then IRacing.

take care.💡

This! I had both Dashmeterpro HD that I'm using in my ipad and iHud that I'm using in my iphone and I must say that both are excellent!
I use also GI-MAX and SPI-D Digital Speedometer, both from SymProject and created this:

I don't know if you want to do something like this:)

Maya, I want to wish you a good luck with this project, I am going to be watching this very closely.

in regards to your question re digital dash, I like the iphone/ipad Idea, but not so much on taking it off and putting them back on. unless you want to buy an Iphone and leave it there.
2 options that I think a permanent dash should have.
1. SLI-PRO - which then connected to a dash (your dash fitted with buttons and rotary knobs for rotary switch and rotary encoders similar to the one you saw readyfe has done.

here's what I have in mind.
McLaren-MP4-12C-GT3-2011-Cars-dashboard-interior-view-800x580.jpg

I'm a big fan of that side look. I'f Im building a side dash box, that is what I'll built (kind of like Roy visser's one) check The way I play roy have a full built

Those buttons and rotary switch encoders is wired to control what goes on displays of the digits on the SLI pro,
another suggestion (that I am currently thinking of getting a liliput monitor my self and putting this in there) is the Zblue software . Z1 dash from Russell, http://www.z1simwheel.com/dashboard/index.cfm This works with numbers of games. mainly rFactor, iRacing, rFactor2, gamestock car etc

I've had the software already, but using iSpeed as the monitor on iPhone with triples crashes the iSpeed app in windows. not the dashboard software.
it does maps (is live Map of where you are and where other drivers are in that screen) kind of like ingame but . out of your view so more like a RACE GPS if you will. or if you don't want that, you can change the view to the original dash (one for each car is made just like the real deal for the total of 29 dashes)
ie if you drive lotus 79, you get the dash of lotus 79. or HPD you get HPD dash. and you can change it at will.

another plus with this is also. some of the button that you built for the SLI-pro. if you are not assigning them to anything. you can assign it to control the Z1 dash.

Good luck buddy, I am very excited to see the complete result.

You have that ass-backwards dude :)

This is the App I used on my iPad for digital gauges until SymProjects readies their multi-rev burner.

Good luck with your dream build friend...

No doubt lots of expense/effort in doing a car themed based project, but only really think it's a good longterm success for someone wanting to drive or replicate that particular car in the virtual world from a personal passion or reason.

I would find it odd to an extent creating such a real car cockpit based on one type of car and with such an impressive virtual screen setup when driving other cars or driving (open wheelers / rally / oval etc) surely with such an awesome setup you want it to adapt to play all forms and feel comfortable/realistic too?

Has anyone ever done a build on motion that allows a seat to be removed and another placed to enable the seating and wheel/pedal positions be quickly adapted interchanged for various types of racing? That to me would be more impressive build, than a replicated car dash and door panels. Hey just ideas or inspiration for you if your mind is not fully committed on the Porsche theme.

As for real gauges, yes be great but again a high end build like yours should and will I reckon end up incorporating both real analogue and digital/virtual displays too.

Your idea of a rear view projector is limited in the games or hacks available and is while interesting rather excessive in benefit. Better putting the money into something more progressive for the build in my view.

Although it has been my own direction of interest (one I am still slowly pursuing) I still have yet to see a cockpit be it self build or commercial that really looks to utilise audio with tactile to a high end for increased immersion.

It is a joke quite frankly that some professional cockpits costing many tens of thousands on motion or indeed screens who all proclaim ultra realisim/simulation rely on a Logitech speaker package or similar. Many forums too show hardened sim racers with rigs consisting of $2000 wheels $1000 pedals etc and what to they do on the audio performance side? I would suggest it is an area you should not overlook although I have probably reached a silly amount of money personally invested in audio/tactile with already 6k+ for my own ideas/build. You should seriously consider proper AV speakers and audio equipment and get the higher end tactile products for increased performance.

Depends on your goals with motion / multi projection already in your grasp then why not have realistic high end quality audio, amplification, bass and tactile? With that all combined and included all senses are covered and your project would be well beyond the commercial builds available.

I've spent most of the last 12 months trying to find a decent solution to have a rear view mirror..I think it's sorely lacking. It was and is awesome in Forza and I still dont understand why it's not been added to PC sims/racers.

I'd worry a little about going over the top with this because sound from PC racers is limited to what's on the disc/download. Some racers aren't even 5.1 ;)

Latte I have another Dbox setup on the Human Racing Chassis with triple panels for any other type of cockpit I want including F1. I think people missed that post :)

This cockpit is for any closed cockpit GT car. Its going to be an experiment in immersion. The fact that I'm a Porsche nut is really irrelevant. Since when racing, all I'm going to see is the gauges and that can apply to any car.

I'm basically creating this replica because I'm a stickler for details/presentation.

It will be a few months before complete but hopefully it will be a one of a kind sim room. I've already gotten some very rare models and even commission Wilco from Wilco Dioramas to make me the finest diorama he's made yet. Its going to be displayed in the wall of my simroom behind glass.

As for Audio I don't know where you got that I'm not an audiophile. I run Marantz and Yamaha amps with Mirage and Klipsch seperates with a Velodyne sub. Not garbage by any stretch. :) I've got a few ideas as far as tactile but remember that Dbox basically provides all the tactile as well. People forget this.

Going the full 9 with my sim room. 2 simulators, a desktop area for PC gaming, and a shrine to everything Porsche.

Hopefully when I'm done it will be something special. That has yet to be determined.

lets see the models :sly:

Vasiliflame, I have tried to collect 1:18 scale AutoArt models from every model of Porsche from the last 60 years. I've gotten around 23 so far. All white, as I only drive white cars LOL or try to. That includes racing models like the GT1 and several Martini racing variants. I even have tracked down the 1968 Schuco Porsche Renntransporter in 1:18 with a 917 racer. Don't ask me how much that monster costs me. All of these models will surround the wall display of the Wilco Diorama.

If you want to see something amazing google wilco dioramas and prepare to be awe struck. this guy is the best in the world.

Yes it was a nice feature on Forza but is unlikely to be added on many PC titles as little demand for it, I guess.

Yes I understand your point in true surround being used. A race car cockpit is hardly a big environment or even racing as such needing superb directional effects.

My point/criticism is not so much the limitations of a cockpit or 5.1 / 7.1 source but the immersion and quality/realism of what can be achieved in audio is often very overlooked and far from realistic with typical PC based audio components.

One sub behind a seat and a 2-3 tactile, while very much is adding to the experience still does not fully achieve a true sensation or realism. Similar to video, using 3 monitors adds to the experience but you need larger screens for realism.

For me this applies to audio as well. The depth/quality and scale of the audio needs to be higher performing to achieve something close to the true realism. Quality low end bass doesn't come cheap but low frequencies are IMO a major factor to achieving realistic car simulation/immersion as is multichannel tactile of some form.

Adding higher quality realistic audio that you truly begin to feel part of the car, with this emotion and power of the engine and what/how the car is doing, cannot be properly accomplished without a fairly high investment, again like large scale multi-screens.

Appreciate you giving more input on the room and spec/features. While not frequenting all the time it is hard keeping up with your plans and purchases or proposed ideas. I have never read anything of your past interest in AV or seen much on your previous audio configurations. Apart for those Xbox speakers and a BK Gamer shown in previous photos.

If you have the money, the space and the interest then he'll yeah go for your Porsche idea, but then why not even include a cool multichannel touchscreen car Amplifer/controller in the dash and look into car audio subwoofers and acoustic dampening etc. I think it is a huge task rebuilding a car interior, have it all work on a moving d-box with no issues and everything be dandy.

Either your truly brave or foolish, lol.
I prefer the term "pioneer" though..

Good luck..

I have a kick-ass audio system incorporated to my iRacing rig which also utilizes some fine tactile immersion. I find these "offhand" comments about no one in sim racing has a set up yet? rather baffling and quite frankly, immature. One only needs to participate at iRacing to see the level of members who incorporate the very same thing. Of course some members are still not welcomed their.

Whoa thats really cool, didn't know you could do that. Does this work for any PC sim?
Mine is for iRacing and he might code one for rFactor (2)? Just go to the App store and type in "iHud", it should come up. I think it's like $6.00

iHud is very slick :) I used to use it for the rFactor games. For me the only downer was that it didnt support Simbin racers and you had to buy different version for rFactor and iRacing.
