A lot of the Ebay listings don't differentiate. They just say "Tachometer" or "Rev Counter"

Also, air cores doesn't yield anything. And I wanted to get the same cores that guy who had the 996 cluster used. I need to use the 996 bezel so they have to fit in there.

There are four types of analog gauge drives used in the automotive industry.

Physical gauges, in which the needle is attached directly to the value being measured; for example, a mechanical pressure gauge.

Analog volt meters or d'Arsonval movements, which consist of a coil and a permanent magnet.

Stepper motors, which move in one notch increments or steps.

Air core motors which use a magnetic field to move the gauge needle. ( no mechanical connection to the needle ).

do you have a picture of the gauges used on the porsche cluster you mentioned ?

When it comes to this yes, I want to be spoonfed. I'm just to busy at work and don't have the capacity or patience for electrical and how to make the gauges work. I'd be willing to pay to have someone do this for me. It's just to farkin confusing.

My price is $1.00 ... uh, what's trump? :)

BTW, this stuff is easy, real easy. SymProjects are still working on the software I believe for the rev burner. Beta testers have found a couple bugs I believe but can't say with %100 certainty.

Really Mayaman? how on earth did you get you D-box up and running? Did you hire someone for that? I know there is so much satisfaction when you do this yourself. As I mentioned, there's nothing to it.

For the Rev Burner you will connect a ground wire, a hot wire and a light wire for each gauge. My Tach had 4 or 5 wires and I believe that is an exception as far as the gauges go. SymProject has a very well drawn out diagram that anyone could follow.

Get your parts, take pictures, post them here and we will help you. You can do it.

My offer stands. If anyone wants to make a little money let me know.

Thanks

So did you get the Porsche dash yet? Keep in mind, most of the newer gauges are electrical, not all of them but most of them. Are the gauges in the dash electrical or mechanical? We know you said they are "air core" but find out from the seller if they are electrical or mechanical. What year is the car you're getting the parts from?

How many gauges in the dash? What type of gauges do you want? *ie* water temp, oil pressure, fuel, etc...

If the gauges do not work you can always look to e-bay or purchase new gauges such as ones from Auto Meter if they will fit :) If they don't fit and the gauges will not work for reasons above then perhaps you will have to redesign a dash of your own.

Have you seen the new wings that Derek Speare has designed for the CSW base? Pretty sharp, has no gauges but I think a person could work something above the wings?

So is this project dead in the water? No input from you Mayaman in sometime now.

Mayaman has been dealing with unfortunate circumstance. The project will be delayed. I am not speaking for him, just relaying info from other sources. I am sure Mayaman will be eager to continue when possible. And having seen some of his other projects, I will enjoy seeing what he comes up with.

I had a minor coronary event. More to come when I recover. No worries, the stress of this prolonged home purchase and my job, it was just too much stress. I promise this won't be a Latte situation if I get my home. I have most of the parts, just need the home to put it in. Right now though recovering. :)

You need to turn down the D-Box to LOW in your old age mate...!

Good to hear you're recovering...

He lives!!!, :D well it's good to hear that you are still kicking Mayaman. I knew about your heart attack but I didn't want to bring that up to the members, at least until you had. I was under the impression that you had already bought a house? I know that can be stressful. My second house I purchased in 1995, I've been mortgage free for 3 years now, talk about a stress reliever.

Anyways keep us updated on your rig, or purchasing a house, whichever comes first. :)

Thanks boys. Still working on the home, I had to retract my offer for the first place, the sellers bank just wouldn't agree to a deal. Now I'm hunting for another place. Just want to say that every bank on earth can rot in hell.

Just saw this. Take it easy mate. Wish you good health.

Best wishes Mayaman, keep the revs down for a bit, I always find your threads interesting.

Banker's are like Lawyer's and Lawyer's are like ... never mind. My Sister is a, ... never mind on that too, :) A good therapy for a bad Heart is Red Wine, just one or two glasses a day and you'll live to a 100, unless one of those Bankers gets to you first. :D
