It's just them focusing more on the entertainment value rather than serious reviews.
That would be my guess. Seriously, when do they ever do an all-out serious review of a car? James does it every now and then, but it's a rare thing... I don't think I've ever seen Jeremy do one.

Just a reminder, Topgear is on tonight, also instead of reserving the usual hour its 75 minutes long due it being a special!

I am looking forward to it.

Check the spoiler, erm to be spoiled?
Apparently this episode is more about bikes than anything

Was pretty awesome Charles. :D

Some stunning scenery too, makes me want to spend a few weeks in SE Asia again...

Pretty neat episode, Vietnam is such a beautiful country, kind of wish I could go there. The soundtrack for this episode was excellent as well. Great way to end the series and I'm glad they decided to keep the extra 15 minutes on it.

Wow, just wow. It was a brilliant episode. 10/10 easily from me, although I didn't see Stig's Communist Cousin. What happened to him anyway? I guess they cut him out because of time restraints. Anyway, I'm definitely going to watch it again some time soon. It was a great send off for season 12.

I agree, nice send off for a generally great series.

I miss the good old days.

Y'know, when Top Gear was vaguely car-related.

You know I thought that once too, but then I realised meh, it's still fun.

If your really hardcore on cars, there's always 5th gear. If you want a car orientated entertainment show then Top Gear is still top dog by far. I have fun watching both, I thought last nights episode was brilliant. Shame about the lack of course but I am over it.

I thought that was a brilliant episode. It was a TopGear off series special so you know it's not going to be anything like a proper episode with and tests or anything straight from the off. I was dissapointed at first that they were using bikes but in the end I just loved the whole episode. Everything worked the cinematography, the soundtrack, tbh that is the only episode of TopGear where I could have watched it and loved it even if there was no talking. The sound track and expecially the scenery were spot on, some amazing shots.

The Daily Mail are intensely upset that Clarkson said he'd never been on a bike before, when they clearly photographed him on a navy blue Vespa near Chipping Norton 2 months back.

THE HORROR OF IT ALL

(ignoring the facts that the special was probably filmed before that, Clarkson has ridden a similar bike in Motorworld a decade ago and that Clarkson didn't actually say he'd never ridden a bike before)

Anyone who bothered too look into such a thing would surely have noticed how scripted TG is. I am surprised how many people want to be pedantic about about the factual content of Top Gear.

The mail don't like him because he writes columns for the times :p

Another "newspaper" (in quotes as it was the Daily Star, which is hardly a newspaper...) was going on about how James May was wearing a collander instead of a helmet, and how they were riding in the early morning after being drunk the night before.

Anyone who thinks that was really a collander, and not a helmet with a collander on top, must be a bit stupid. And they only said they were drunk, they certainly didn't look hungover the next morning.

As old men they probably only needed about 2-3 pints, although I don't know how much ABV snake blood has in it, or whatever the hell that was.

That was also in Vietnam....

It was a great episode, really enjoyed it and didnt want it to end. As for the budget cuts they could cut back on wages on presenters etc.. after that vietnam trip who in their right mind would want to quit the show simply over a pay cut that said though its probably not as simple as that.

That Vietnam episode was a right laugh I have to say. Seriously, it seemed to be a good blend of random humour and also a good look in how they all tried to present good entertainment.

Mind, Hammond breaking that ship many times....and many others that I can't quite remember

In somewhat disappointing news, NBC shelved Top Gear USA due to the failure that was Knight Rider this season. In somewhat better news, the BBC is shopping the show around elsewhere.

Who wants to bet it'll go to Discovery/TLC?

Saw that before, but just can't leave it alone.

Knight Rider failed because it was a miserable cobbled-together set of skits using horrific special effects which overwhelmed any possibility of suspension of disbelief to make sure every model in the Ford line got some air time. Dialog, plot, and story were all secondary to presenting Fords.

Dropping a shot at the Top Gear franchise because that failed is rather like shooting your dog because the neighbor's cat threw up a hairball, and totally confirms one's fear of NBC's [lack of] ability to handle the franchise.

Stig unmasked
And no spoiler alert, since they don't reveal its name

I honestly don't buy that one bit, for a start the image is clearly photoshopped. I'm not buying the fact that he only has a 15K car that even James May would be bored of. He is obviously a pro and likely has a car given to him by sponsors, you only need to watch the way he hunted down the DTM driver in the German Special last series. <---- Now that was impressive. Very impressive.

News of the World
"But last week we found a leak in the Top Gearbox—and a senior BBC source last night confirmed: “Yes **** ******** IS the Stig but don’t tell anyone I’ve told you.”"

That sounds like a 6 year-old could have made that up. Who exactly are the News of the World trying to fool?

Yeah...right. That just isn't the Stig. Some guys over at FinalGear spotted the actual Stig's face unmasked in the rear view mirror of the Zonda, when James was testing it. Ofcourse, it could have not been the Stig but I'm taking a punt it probably was.

Just a heads up guys, next week Top Gear finally broadcasts its first episode in High Definition, however it is only a special, until it fully returns later this year.

Anyway to see it in HD you will need to tune into BBC HD with the right setup. However don't worry guys it will still be in Single Definition on BBC 2.

Time: 20:00
Special Epsoide: Top Gear: Polar

Small bit of detail on the Top Gear: Polar Special

Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond are racing to the North Pole, Jeremy and James are in a specially adapted pick-up truck, while Richard is on a sled pulled by a team of huskies.

So it's been a year and a half, have there been any additional Top Gear episodes shot in and made available in HD?

I keep checking the BBC HD schedule, but I have yet to see any listed. :odd:

Darren Childs, Managing Director, Global TV Channels, BBC Worldwide, has been talking up a storm about making BBC HD the biggest producers of HD content in the world in less than three years, and bringing BBC HD content to the US among other countries... so needless to say, the sooner we see Top Gear on BBC HD, the sooner we can hope to see it in HD here in the states. 👍

Not their readers, because that is impossible.

Except even Damon Hill admits top having a rather uninspiring car. Why? Because nothing on the road will ever compare to driving on the track, so why try?
