Well the show for you guys in the US isn't going to be called Top Gear any how, its going to be called Gear. There is going to be a preview of the show on March the 4th at 11pm before moving to 10pm on March 11th.
 
Adam Corolla? John Travolta? No... no. 11pm? 10pm? This show is dOOmed already.

I guess why were all having a hard time is because of two things.

1. All car show related tv here that's like TG sucks ass or is off air.
2. America sucks that bad.
 
They should get magazine editors to host it; Larry Webster, Tony Quiroga, other funny guys from mags.
 
Had a look at the lastest top gear mag when they went to Japan, love the pic of karate stig on the first page.

Clarkson drawn in anime is priceless... theres a story were he is having a dream about Ferrari and its Italian welding :lol and then a vision of Schumacher appears looking a bit odd and Clarkson says are you a cat?

... its very weird but Clarkson looks kinda cool as an animation...same with May and Hammon, they should seriously do TOP GEAR - The Animated Series!

BT-> I think NBC would never pull it off, the already screw up with Knight Rider already. They should stick with The Office instead.

Dear God, not Chris Titus. Not only is he incredibly unfunny, he's annoying as hell too.

The only person I can think of that's qualified is Jay Leno. I do like the suggestion of Jesse James though.

Yeah, I watched it. It was alright, there never as good as TG though.

Was very average. Still not as good as Top Gear but it wasnt terrible. Trying to cut the cucumber with a knife on the front of an M5 was quite good though.
 
I was worth the watch, the Caterham and Lotus were good but it jsut isn't nearly as attention grabbing as TopGear. They're trying to chuck "fun" into it and it comes out like like cheese whereas the fun in TopGear just works. I'll keep watching it, I have a niggling feeling that I heared they have the GT-R on at some point this series but I can't rembmer where I heared it or ifit's true.

If you found the news that NBC had struck a deal for an American version of Top Gear promising, the latest speculation on candidates for hosting the show should have you salivating. The original British program on the BBC uses a mix of automotive journalists and television personalities to make the dynamic and beloved team of hosts. Since Clarkson, May and Hammond nixed the idea of hosting the American show as well, BBC producers then began interviewing American automotive journalists – um, I'm still waiting for my call – in an effort to imbue the new show with some "journalistic credibility", but Inside Line reports that the BBC called several of the candidates this week and told them they were taking a "celebrity direction".

The development has inevitably led to speculation over who NBC could sign to host the show, and like a racing team looking for a new driver, it all comes down to availability. Jay Leno's contract to host the Tonight Show, it has been pointed out, is set to expire next year, and his credentials as a certified car nut are unimpeachable. Another candidate is Jerry Seinfed, an avid Porsche enthusiast who's got a lot of time on his hands since his sitcom went off the air. Both are huge celebrities and genuine gear-heads with long-standing relationships with NBC. We also hear Scott Speed is available if they're looking for The Stig's American cousin... or a new Captain Slow.

In my opinion, Leno makes perfect sense. Seinfeld even makes a lot of sense... They just need some guy to be the "captain slow," and thats a bit harder to pick. As for the next Stig, well, I'm sure they'd just grab NASCAR or ALMS drivers every other week...

I'd say they're equally as talented (some of them)? We've got a couple of IRL and F1 guys crossing over too, remember?

Both very talented? Yes.

Able to do the same job? Not even close.
 
I'd venture a guess and say drivers like Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon could hold their own against some of the better IRL and F1 guys. Boris Said, as always, wins hands down because he can do EVERYTHING.

Agreed. Without Mr. Clarkson, I don't think anything can come close... See 5th Gear for instance...
 
S'funny cause I cant really think of an American driver that would make a good all-rounder to be the Stig... which is why I said Fellows. Canada is close enough.

And it can't be, either. I'm thinking NBC want to do their own Top Gear, with instead of having an american May, Clarkson and Hammond, they want other personalities instead, like Jay Leno for example. It would make more sense, because the show then wouldn't be an imitation.

They should also do their own takes on the challenges, reviews and "state-of-the-art cocking about" as May brilliantly put it in the olympic special.

And the editing should be of highest quality, just like the real Top Gear.

I actually think Leno and Seinfeld are perfect choices, as they both have enough personality to carry on the show successfully. Either way, they are relatively famous so the show won't exactly flop on it's first showings like it might with totally unknown hosts. A captain slow, while fun, may not be totally necessary. What Gear needs is to establish its own identity separate from the original Top Gear as to not be a total copy, and therefore the third person might be a total surprise instead of simply following the same formula as Top Gear.

Maybe Jack Nicholson or Adam Sandler? I seem to recall they're pretty into cars as well...

I know what you mean, it kinda reminds me of A1 GP - it sometimes has better actual car racing than F1, but it just doesn't have the same "pull". Still, it's been a good few episodes with some genuinely interesting cars so far.

Clarkson will want to use the most inappropriate machinery like a full sized digger or something.

May will do the water feature and will probably want it really poncy and stately home style...

Hammond will probably be in charge of the decking which will probably have exposed nails and everything else he makes will just fall apart..

This could possibly be the funniest episode without cars ever!
