As much as we all dream of having their jobs, you would quite literally have the whole world watching you and that is an insane amount of pressure for anyone to take.
Much the same as any celebrity. I'm sure the insane amount of money for doing so, eases the pressure somewhat.

It's a sad day in the motoring world...RIP Top Gear... :(
Not yet it isn't. This seems to have popped up in the Telegraph and then been spread by every one of the usual website suspects without any other source...

... and in any case we won't find out until tomorrow.

Boris Johnson has asked to be considered as a replacement, yes please!

I can't imagine a worse replacement.

I like Top Gear, and I hope it continues, but if Clarkson gets sacked then what that will most likely show is that the BBC now takes poor behaviour from any of its staff very seriously, for which I can't blame them.

My big concern is that of how many other people's jobs are now at risk as a result.

As likely as that outcome may prove to be, I think it would be best to lay the current and presenter lineup and format to rest now anyway than to see it progress further into the realms of contrived slapstick with the odd car thrown in to remind us of what the show was once primarily about.

To end an exceptional 13 year run on such sour terms would be a bit of a letdown. Although I'll be content if they decide to throw the final few un-aired challenges and tests up on their website and move on from there.

TGL may also survive without Clarkson. If and when they announce new tour dates.

The consensus seems to be that this is going to bury Top Gear, why does it have to? It could be the start of something great, a better more entertaining Top Gear. I'm sure when old TG ended people couldn't really see how the new format would go down with new presenters. It could even gain a whole new audience of Clarkson haters.

You have to ask, are you in it for the cars or the presenters? It's still basically about exciting car stuff so with any presenter who is reasonably funny and charismatic is should work.

Regarding the possibility of the show been revamped, I'll stick my neck out and say that fans have gotten so used to Clarkson & Co, that any major changes to the layout might cause some alienation among the fans and the show could take a heavy hit in views.

Could Top Gear continue without Clarkson? Way too early to tell, but if the outpouring of support from the fans is anything to go by, it could very well be a eventual death sentence for Top Gear if Clarkson goes because to some, Clarkson IS Top Gear.

Even if they found THE perfect replacement for him, people won't tune in as much as there's no Clarkson and I just know some people will make another "Bring Back Clarkson" petition and the inevitable 'Boycott BBC' page. Some will even go far as threats against the producer involved in the incident for "killing Top Gear".

My feelings are mixed on this.

Clarkson is my favorite presenter, but if the BBC fires him I won't be sad, because of two reasons;

A. It's Clarkson; it really won't take long for him to get another show (and honestly I'll probably watch whatever it turns out to be because I like him)

B. Top Gear in recent memory has become fairly stale (although that can be attributed to the show running for 19 seasons). A new presenter, alongside a general crew refresh and longer break would help break the monotony and probably would make the show better in the long term (although the show would likely begin to hemorrhage viewers simply because They Changed It, Now It Sucks.

If this version of TG dies because of a scuffle like this though I will be angry.

Well the BBC should be ready for all the legal action that will come their way if they sack Clarkson and pull the final 3 episodes for good.

Jeremy can sue the BBC for defamation (comparing him to Jimmy Savile) and unfair dismissal, then all the channels around the world that show new episodes of Top Gear can sue the BBC for failing to deliver the final 3 episodes.

The BBC does have the hands tied behind their back, and hopefully this plays into Jeremy's hands, I agree punching a colleague is wrong, if he did indeed punch the producer, but without Jeremy, Top Gear would be utter 🤬

If they do sack Clarkson, the only replacement who could come close, would be Sabine Schimtz...

I don't particularly watch TG for cars if I'm honest. Comedy sketches and a 5 minute "News" section. I find out about proper car news from my friends who are equally as in to cars as me and from other sites similar to and including this one. TG is a comedy show about Clarkson, May and Hammond. If you really look you can see that. Every car review is a copy and paste with newer jokes. They're very rarely serious reviews and even then they're not fact reviews but merely opinion of the one doing the review. As soon as it goes "back to the studio" you have one of the others stood there completely disagreeing because its "American" so made of plastic and can't turn etc. If Clarkson and the others follow does go then I'm afraid I'll most likely not be watching.

I do agree with that, I love Top Gear but I just can't see it happening with a revamp or even a new crew. I dont watch the show to learn about cars or whatever, I watch it because it's fun and entertaining and because the 3 dumbass are working very well together.

If they sack Clarkson I think it would be a nice time to move on and end Top Gear. However it's such a big brand now for the bbc that they will probably try to make it live on. I dont see how anyone could replace Clarkson tho. If they want to keep tog gear as it is now.

I love Top Gear and I'm utterly against lots of Clarkson's opinions. But I find the show so entertaining and fun that is difficult to imagine it without Jeremy, James or Richard.

But, the thing is... you can't punch some co-worker in the face, specially for a small thing, and get away with it. It's just wrong.

I can't see Clarkson out of the hook in this one. And without him, the show is dead.

Gutted, say what you want about him but I loved the show, hopefully he gets on with another show ASAP and takes the other two with him.

Maybe they can hire and protect a child molester as replacement.

I hope the 3 of them go together to start a new show on a different network. This just sucks.

The good news on that front - May's and Hammond's contracts with BBC are also up at the end of this month, and to date, they haven't been renewed either. (Edit - May's Twitter has him as a "(f)ormer TV presenter".)

The bad news - BBC probably wrote in non-compete clauses in all of their contracts which will be enforced.

The ugly news - we've already seen the last episode of Series 22.

Preferably one with more freedom in terms of what they allow.

As for this series, well it was supposed to be a big comeback wasn't it? They were going back into double figures in episodes, tons of content, plenty of it was looking good. And instead we've got the end of it all. RIP Top Gear...

Lol. Ice cold.

I hope we still get to see the last episodes of the season, really wanted to see the Porsche, McLaren and Ferrari face off too.

If the BBC end up hiring the likes of Chris Evans and/or Steve Coogan as rumored, I won't be watching, neither of those guys have ever appealed to me. About the only trio I would watch would be Gordon Ramsey, Rowan Atkinson and Chris Harris.
