It's not the same situation but it should be compared to a certain degree IMO. Also him hosting "Have I Got News For You" is indeed a good sign.
No, it shouldn't. One was clearly a criminal, the other simply hit someone. Two way off degrees of separation here.

James May and Richard Hammond have said they REFUSE to film without Clarkson

In a way that's quite nice, often when they are doing their challenges and road trips, the standard ethic is if one of them gets in trouble, they leave them behind and go on without them... seems in this case the chaps are sticking together... or maybe they just think people will rubbish their efforts if it's not as good without JC.

I thought they still had three years?

Hitting someone out of anger isn't a criminal act?

Not unless convicted, no. It's an offence, but even then it has to be recorded.

Incidentally, if you hit the "Reply" button, all the quoting is done for you and the user gets notified. If you just want to Reply to a small bit of a post you can either delete the rest from the tags or just highlight the passage you want to quote within the post and then click on the "Reply" box that pops up.

Someone started a petition for Alan Partridge to host Top Gear, on change.org.

Only about 30,000 have signed so far, so it's a case of the 'rowing boat versus the battleship'.

Famine, thanks for the posting advice. By the way, I was a lawyer for thirty years, and what you describe as an offense is a criminal act, conviction or not. You can't get convicted without a trial, but lots of people who commit criminal acts don't get convicted.

As a lawyer of thirty years' standing, you should be acutely aware that the law is not standardised across the globe.

Here in the UK, punching someone is an offence (which offence exactly depends on the circumstances) but cannot be held to be a criminal act unless a criminal conviction occurs.

Indeed if you were to refer to someone who had punched someone else but not been convicted of it as 'a criminal' - even if they received a police caution for it - you may find yourself on the wrong side of the law, for defamation.

Some words by Clarkson may not be AUP friendly, so I won't quote it, follow the link :)

At the event to raise money for young people to take part in the arts, Clarkson was persuaded to offer up a lap around the Top Gear track by the charity auction compere Christopher Biggins.

Clarkson said: “I’ll drive somebody around in whatever I can get hold of. I’m sacked so it’s probably an Austin Maestro. So who knows? But anyway it will be my last ever lap of the Top Gear track.”

Not good

Also, Clarkson went to the home of the producer he has the fracas with and the producer refused to let him in & James May denies saying he will refuse to film without Clarkson

Also we shall find out next week whether or not Clarkson will be sacked or not

By any chance, is the BBC HQ inside the congestion charge zone?
