Lol what is going on here. I just updated: no change in contrast / brightness of the standard views, transmission whine is still there.

Can you try it without signing on to the PSN? I think it still lets you get patches while "offline".

If it fails again, I'll try it that way. And I know. That's why I find it wierd that it cancels the download just because I'm being kicked out of the PSN.

You might want to try and delete and re-install GT5 data and then re-install the update. Before you do that make sure you save all stuff like replays etc.

Oh wow some car sounds have totally changed. I'm in an RM ZR1 right now...

Edit:
The 10' Camaro SS RM no longer sounds like a rice burner, it actually sounds like a Camaro.

Thank goodness I might actually RM one now

The custom transmission whine is still very noticeable, compared to the stock trans, on my '70 Challenger. But the exhaust sound is much loader now in cockpit view so the car sounds much better than it did before. Overall race sound effect volume is lower though.

Just tried the ZR1 RM now, because of your tip.
It does sound a little different but i still hear that irritating coffeegrinder ... So i'm wondering that maybe they didnt change the engine sound, but because of the new sound setup alltogether it is just less annoying than before?

Yup Custom whine reports are false, still the same.

Yep I got an installing icon when I started mine up confirming the new sound. Much better 👍

Some sounds on cars have probably been changed. I've already detected one - the Mitsubishi FTO Super Touring Car. It's gotten worse

"Gotten Worse" Is a pretty open saying. It could very well have gotten better. Worse vs Better can't be proved with out numbers backing up the statement. The sound of the Mitsubishi FTO Touring car has probably not worsened.

'Dat attempt to force objectivity into a subjective viewpoint.

If that's so I can at least be assured PD didn't change (vandalise) just the one car.

All of what I said was IMHO, by the way.

It is a more realistic sound in general, but I don't care when the sound before was so good anyway.

PD need to just replace that god awful racing titanium exhaust with the new one...all across the board seriously.

Hey. I'm all for PD taking steps to make it so GT5 is no longer The Real S10 Blazer Experience. The Corvette Z06 RM and C5-R sounds a bit bleh now, but on another world better than they did before.

And the Camaro sounds, daresay... good now.

I was speaking specifically for the FTO STC in terms of vandalism.

But the Vette Z06 RM has changed too? I was gonna try and drive that in split screen with a mate but...the game locked up in loading. Evidently PD haven't patched far enough.

I have access to the Camaro SS so shall go and see them as well. Might check the C5-R as well if there's still one on share.

(New sound testing eh...all the better for my new headphones to get their first run-in :D)

If you don't like the sound it makes, buy another exhaust system.

If you're not buying it for sounds, but you're buying it for performance, then sound doesn't matter.

Corvette Z06 RM's sound has not changed for me at all. Still sounds like the Supra JGTCs from GT4.

Corvette C5-R has had a big change though. It now sounds like an Impreza with a racing exhaust, and I'm rather a fan of such sounds. More tuneful than the last sound certainly, though it doesn't really feel too normal coming out of a Corvette.

Shall try the Camaro SS RM as well.

That wasn't a very useful post, care to try again? :sly:

Hmmm buddy, yours wasn't useful at first place. Sounds are REALLY important for the whole experience.

But I'll just watch...

There is a duplicate save file in the Save Data Utility folder called Gran Turismo 5 (backup)

It is not duplicate. It is a different save-game file. In fact GT5 now saves 2 saves in different places, in order not to loose your save-game entirely if one of them becomes corrupted. So, every second save overwrites one of the existing save-game files. Smart! Thank you, whoever thought of it. I have never seen such a move from a game to ensure your data.:)

I dunno. Care to explain how what you just said makes any sense in the first place?

Since, you know, a Corvette with a high performance exhaust doesn't suddenly transform into a Honda Civic.

In regards to engine volume going down, check your sound settings. The engine volume did drop for me, but somehow the game kicked the audio output back into Living Room after this patch. I'm going to test some races to see if switching it back fixes that.

Camaro SS RM has had an enormous sound change - in fact, it's pretty much an entirely new sound byte. It sounds like a mix between the Giulia TZ2 (lovely sound) and the XJ13 (worst sound in the game by far) but in terms of the Camaro it's wonderful. Very much approve of a sound change like that! 👍

Damn! Just tried out the Camaro RM and now it sounds almost like a proper V8! Finally...

I wasn't talking to you kiddo 👍 But yes, sounds are important. So if you want a good sound, buy a sports exhaust system or something.

.... ok well that's not a good start.

I'll try and break it down for you:

If you want something that sounds 'nice', buy an exhaust system that has sound in mind (just like real life :sly: )

If you want performance, buy a performance exhaust (still with me?)

When you buy performance,
performance is what you get (unless it's a rip off),
not something that is aimed at providing a nice sound, or a nice look, or a nice feel. It's just performance.

Vehicles with parts that are made to go fast don't always please everyone. One of my friends has a full straight titanium system on his car in real life - a straight 2'' pipe from the manifold that exists under the car. It sounds like crap, but he didn't install it for sound... he installed it to increase performance. And it's the same in this game. That's why it's rare for a race spec car in this game or in real life to sound 'nice' in popular opinion.

Kiddo? I'm 30 years old and I think you should be a bit more respectful with others... You're acting like one. Reported.

Was it a PM? No? Then cut this crap out.

Why thank you. I'll try and break it down for you, since you were so kind to do so for me:

There are several things that a race-prepped SBC with a performance exhaust don't sound like in real life. For example:
  • A Honda I4.
  • A Chevrolet 90° V6 (A.K.A. The S10 Blazer Engine).
  • A Ferrari flat-plane V8.

And here are the things that a race-prepped SBC with various performance exhausts, most typically the racing exhaust, sound like in GT5:
  • A Honda I4.
  • A Chevrolet 90° V6 (A.K.A. The S10 Blazer Engine). This is also the most common result, afflicting off the top of my head the C4 Grand Sport as well as the Camaro LM, among others.
  • A Ferrari flat-plane V8.

Now, perhaps I'm just not smart enough to wrap my mind around your intense logic, but it seems to me that PD taking steps to correct those issues, as they have done with the Camaro RM, would be in everyone's benefit because REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR and all that. Because, taking your post to the ultimate logical conclusion, when tuning for power we should be happy with any exhaust note for any car so long as it provides maximum performance. Including, but not limited to, not hearing anything but transmission whine and hearing electric car sounds instead.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyways, switching the DRC settings back to Small Theater fixed the engine volume problems on my end. I suggest anyone with volume problems check to make sure that the patch didn't reset their sound settings.

Wow - everyone is a bit keen here.

Done several several miles today - The loading times seemed to be a bit -L-O-N-G at times - but the game was fine. The tyre squeal as you rub up against the friction circle is very nice.

I suppose the way I didn't really notice anything bad means the foul game tricked me.

Load times may be longer- but menu bleep click times seems to be much punchier - cursor movement seems faster even.

I guess not :( at least you tried though. Apology accepted 👍

As for the other guy, feel free to PM me because you're not really helping this topic :sly:

And as for the cockpit views, I haven't found any changes whatsoever (although I've only driven a few cars). I always thought the RX7s had the views too far forward so I assumed these would be changed according to whoever said the views had been moved back slightly but apparently not... just can't wait for the next seasonals so we can play with the new adjuster.

I hope this thread doesn't go down hill, but the RM ZR1 sounds more like a Vette race car than before. Not dead on, but much better in my ears. I got on this thread just to say that, and then find others have noticed it as well. Great!
