Ok Guys, here's the deal!

I was sat bored stiff waiting for the Draft to hot up again(Time-zones are a B:tch, ain't they)
So I thought.....What would make an interesting diversion from the norm?
And came up with this!

* JGTC Driver's with a confirmed ride.......Use their own car with the correct settings given by EV4L
* Drivers without confirmed rides use your prefered option!
* Drivers just popping in for a challenging race - pick a car(from the JGTC draft thread), use the settings provided, and race!(just state that you are not in the series when you post your times:tup: )

Same rules as the Pre-season Challenges so gratiously put on by our estemed competetor and organisor. (I'm not gonna name drop again, I might be short and have bad knees but I'm not at the crawling stage yet):)

8 laps of the Nurburgring,
AI @ +10 & racing hards (default)
Tyres= RM's or worse
Tyre wear @ STRONG
Penalty @ forced pit
Time limit @ none
No wall contact, or shortcutting, minor off's allowed as long as no time is made up by it, nothing that goes against the spirit of the series.
Etc.
Etc.
Etc.
You can post anything relevant in the thread, including T's 3,6,9, fastest lap and final times!
That's it!

Have fun, I did.👍 👍 👍

ps

There is no time limit, no cut-off! When EV4L starts the season off, this will end (simple huh?)
You can post as many times as your little hearts desire.
And hopefully someone will help me show a leaderboard as we go along!

This is just a 'fun' thing to do while EV4L is run off his feet, and the rest of us are bored!

Neil

No need to PM times, just post them in the thread.

Temp Leaderboard!

GT500
Nuvolari BMW M3 R.c. 52' 42.839 6' 24.863
ShigSpeed Nissan Xanavi 53'43.775 6'24.xxx

GT300

Nuvolari Altezza 55'29.563 6'46.066
Iceman Impreza 55'49.763 6'45.863
Honda Garaiya 57'05.843 6'55.632
Bttw MazdaRX7 58'41.856 7'08.xxx (can't remember)

Good Deal !!!

Here we go.....ran all laps with RH's and left the setting of my ride alone as well.
Gears at 280kph....redlined at the end of the 2 long straight-aways. First lap was some kind of a screw up till I got used to my new awesome ride ! Didn't gain any time when I was off in the grass ! I also got panelized for hitting a curb and the wall to hard :dunce: at the end of lap #7.
Here are my times:

Total: 56'41.313
Fastest Lap: 6'54.xxx

Hey Neil what should we set tire wear at....none, mild or strong ?

Soz Andy, well spotted! 1st time 'race' starter!
(can't you tell? No fancy colours,fonts,photos.............):)

Set tyre wear to STRONG

Iceman, dude!
But hey, nice time there anyway!

Just had a thought, and realised that I hadn't thought!

Q:

Can someone help me out, by either helping me work out how to post and keep track of the results. Or be kind enough to help out?

Old dog & new tricks!
(Give me a pile of PC parts and a hour or so, I'll give you back a working PC. Need help with a windows problem, give me a shout. But this web-site stuff.............I'm not so good!)
Neil

I would help, no problem ! But I'm not a premium member, don't know if that makes a difference ? What are you exactly looking for, Neil ?

Just, either someone to help me track time, and post a leaderboard. OR someone who can tell me how to do it in a semi-acceptable way.

Just didn't think that part through enough. :dunce:

And don't think being premium matters.

ROFL, you need Soyfu. :p

I also ran this, just for fun, and I ran 57'35.xxx, with a fast lap of 6'54.xxx.

It was really dirty tho. I couldn't seem to keep my eye on the track. Oh well, it's not important... only thr 'Ring. Not really like the other tracks we use in this series.

I also had it set to speed limiter, and I got 3 penaltys. Sigh. One was awesome. It was actually scary, and felt kinda legit, unlike most of the crashs in GT.

One time then beer.

Race time: 56' 35.841"
Quick lap: 6' 53.494
Margin over the FTO: 2' plus

All settings per JGTC at 301 bhp and 1000 kg, difficulty at +10, tire wear STRONG, penalty at FORCED PIT ENTRY. Car is the Altezza five-speed.

Enjoyed it BTTW.

If I get some time I may do it again.

(Addendum: This one was with one stop on lap four, and hard/medium tire combination. Obviously a mistaken strategy.)

Neil, I don't know what you think, but our car is fantastic! Wonder what "ASPARADRINK" means...think it's got an accented alcohol problem? Just enough oversteer to feel confident on the turns. Fantastic brakes...it's the whole package. I loved the Altezza last season, but I do better with a bit of oversteer....must be my ancient reflexes. Ok, you answered my question....back to the track. Get used to Strong tire wear everyone that didn't race last season...

Nice times, but can we try to keep it simple. Please?

Try to only post times that would be considered 'legal' by JGTC rules past and present, not the future tho cos he's too scary by half, and also half the theoretical physicists on the planet would say that he doesn't exist anyway (at least until you take more than 12 dimensional maths into account):scared:
And the other half of them will say that Meson interactions with a strong cup of black tea will provide the answer! :scared:

I know it's just for fun, but I and 'Santa's little helper' (when and if I can find him) need to keep track. :dunce:

*peers his head inside to see what all the commotion is*
I may take a spin in my lovely JGTC car here, but when is it I get my car setting from viper?

He's posted it. It's 515 bhp and 1170 kg. Check the car draft thread to be sure.

I hope BTTW is separating GT300 and GT500 type cars here.

I think that they will probably seperate themselves bud. Given the length of the straights, and, the amount of uphill sections out of slow corners!

But if Jerome (who is versed in these matters) would oblige with the where-with-all (including instructions) I will indeed seperate the classes.
(unless of course he would be kind enough to contribute his time)

No prob, I was just keeping you guys up to date with what I had done. I won't update till it's clean, that is if I even run it again. :p

Just picked my car... Will go and do this race now! w0000! These cars are LOVELY drives around the ring, even though they're top speed challenged with all the downforce...

So, no soft tires, even for us? I thought it was just the AI that were limited to the RMs and then we're limited to RH, RM, and RS tires... Anywho, doesn't matter, this isn't the real thing! w0000000. Yes, I'm definitely excited. Thanks for this challenge Neil!

Is this challenge only for confirmed JGTC drivers in each of the two JGTC classes using their official round one weight and horsepower settings, and using the cars presently assigned to those drivers?

Looks awesome! I'm last in the draft though... but I think I'll have a go anyways after I finish revising this stupid essay for school. Nice job setting this up, it's a great way to kick off the season.

erm ... ive a time, but, before i submit, im curious ...

Tyres= RM's or worse ( but wholely up to you, it would be your funeral! )

so, you cant use soft tyres? the (bit) seems to suggest otherwise.

Update: 2nd run, same strategy...pit stops at 3 and 6.

Total: 56'09.320
F.Lap: 6'50.164

*CLEAN*

Tires should be the drivers choice without restrictions. Some might have a different strategy and could use soft tires.

How did you get so much time off from your first run?

I think I know how now.

Here's my second try at it, this time I did two stops instead of just one:

Race time: 56' 03.774"
Quick lap: 6' 52.745"
Margin over the FTO: about 2' 25".

I forgot how quickly the pit stops are at der Nordschleife. Big difference.

Settings remain per JGTC S2 at 301 bhp and 1000 kg.

Ok, this is just to clear up a couple of points raised.

First off, I set a limit on tyre types allowed. RM/RH/RSH = GOOD RS/RSS = BAD.
There are reasons behind this:-

1 - To put softs or super-soft's on these cars, that have SO much downforce is overkill in my opinion. We might as well lay a traintrack down the racing line, and all start wearing silly little stripey hats.

2 - Softs and super-softs will not last very long with the tyre-wear set to STRONG, mediums last about 1.75 laps(blue-yellow/orange) and super-softs even less, so you would be pitting every other lap or every lap with super-softs. Completely ruining the 'flow' of the race. IMO

3 - It was a subtle hint to the two reasons above!

Second.
Anyone can join in, though this is primarely a race for the JGTC S2 drivers.

If you are a JGTC S2 driver with a confirmed car, then use that car with the settings provided by EV4L.

If you have not got a confirmed car yet due to the draft not being completed yet, then use the car you want to choose, with the settings provided.

If you are just looking for a good race to run for a while, pick a car, use the provided settings (from the JGTC car draft thread) and race.
All I ask is that when you post your times, you tell me that you are not in the series.

Third.
This is just for FUN, no points, no limit on the number of times you can post, no pressure.

Just do it, enjoy it, post your times, and have a laugh!

Take the piss, share tips, pit stratagies, have a chat about best lines etc etc.

Some of us (myself included) have not had a previous season to get used to the cars, or the format, so this is a warm-up. A way of us all getting to know each other better. And a healthy, fun, competetive way for the newbie's to get some experience of races of this nature.

Relax and enjoy! That's an order!:)
Hope this clears up the questions?

Neil

PS
I have edited out the bracketed bit in the 1st post, my sense of humour can be confusing sometimes, sorry!

These are my third and last attempt times:

Race time: 55' 55.192"
Quick lap: 6' 52.801"
Margin over the Alfa: 3' 45"

Two stops, all settings remain the same, combination of medium and hard tires.

Again, car is the Altezza five-speed.

Nice times there mate!

Going to have a second run at this myself now.

Any advice about top-speed settings anyone?

What top speed setting did you use? I was using 280...

So, what's the deal with hitting AI? As in them bumping into you, hogging the skinny road, etc...?

And how does this pit entry thing work? I was just doing my lap, wasn't planning on pitting yet, and I got pulled into the pit on my second lap! But, the funny thing is, it just went straight through the pits????

And then, on the third lap, I was dozing off... I haven't been getting enough sleep lately, so I just went to bed, lol.
