I've been looking around for used cars on the net and I'm just wondering if there's anything out there that's better than autotrader or cars.com? Could anyone recommend other sites to use for local car sales?

I've had the most luck with www.autotrader.com .

If you're looking for a specific car, find the best internet forum you can dedicated to that car. Usually cars cross the classified section all the time. At www.neons.org, there are several dozen listed, most of which are either cheap or quite well developed in modification. So find the car(s) you're looking for and search for a forum. Just like this forum, there is a membership with a history and people will tell you who is trustworthy and who is not, and what is a good price and what is not.

you also want to find out what are the common problems on the car you want to buy. for instance, if you want a mercedes 300E and you find one with just over 100000miles, be prepared to have to do a head rebuild (about $2000) as the factory valve stem seals and head gasket were poor.
