Well, without bothering to look, since he is looking for a cheap rwd, without any intention of drifting, any old mustang or some old american rwd brick could be had for that much money in way better condition. You can pretty much assume that car is made of rust, so nearly anything for the same money will be in better condition.

nissan tuner, like your name suggest, get a NISSAN!!!!! Why would you want a 🤬 up high millage Corolla? (which isn't even a Hachi Roku type) If you want a good cheap reliable RWD Japanese cars, there are more choices than this. Certainly a 240SX or a S13 Silvia is within your budget, or even a S14 if you could afford it. Then you can swap out for a SR20DET engine and live up to your username. :tup:

Well....... thats sort of the point really. All american AE86 are not really hachi roku, their like hachi go with some minor modification and called it an AE86. Besides, the car is totally different compared to their Japanese counterpart.

A Corolla GT-S in Connecticut? My lord I've been searching for one, and bam, you go ahead and find one, and to make matters worse, it's a dud. There's a few Porshce 944s for sale; one for $4,700 with only 53k miles on it in Springfield, but holy crap I almost pass out when I start to think of insurance. It's really hard to find something sporty AND practical. Since you seem a bit closer to getting a car than me (I'll probably be able to get one maybe a year down the road) I'll keep you posted if I see anything in the area that you might be interested in. (I live not too far from you.)

none of these cars are really in my area and the few i ever see are autos. an SR5 corolla alone is rare in Connecticut.

Nothing wrong with the KA24, I had one in my Altima and that engine was bulletproof. No timing belts to mess with, and plenty of torque to play with as well.

Ummm I think you will find if he puts a cup of water in the cupholder this will not be a problem. Common faults with AE86 tofu delivery are not having a cup of water in the cup holder, which the saloon version didnt have as standard. However it's a fairly easy and common modification.

With a V8 'Stang, Gas is 2-3 mpg worse than a V6 and insurance is ~$10 more a month. We're talking 20mpg easy. With a ballsy 302 under the hood.

Your best bet is to grab your most savvy parent, Hit the local CarMax, and have them show you all the cars in the under $5,000 section of the lot.
Whichever one has the least miles and has the best EPA rating for gas mileage is the one you should plunk your hard earned cash down on.

I tend to recommend, Escorts, Foci, Tauri, and occasionally Bonnevilles and Cutlasses.
If you have a family friend that knows all the "old people" that have "senior cruisers" in the garage, and they are getting a mite old to be driving, or have just passed on...
You might get in to a older, low mileage, fair to decent on gas, oldster mobile, like a Buick, Olds, Ford, or Mercury Sedan.
Are they cool looking? No.
Can you take 5 or 6 of your closest friend out to have fun, and still get 20 MPG? Probably.
Will you get decent insurance rates? C'mon, you're 16 and a new driver, of course not!

As an example, I turned 17 in 1981. My grandparents had an old 1973 Pontiac Bonneville in the garage.
The first time I drove it, it had less than 30,000 miles on it.
If you do the math that's about 3500 miles a year. My old man used to refer to it as "not even broiken in good".

Hell, my 76 year old mother has a '99 or '00 DeVille that has about 50,000 miles on it, and she's the second owner!!
She literally drives to church on Sunday morning and evening, Bible study on Wednesday, to the market weekly, and to "Feed the Hungry" weekly.
I wouldn't be suprised if she does "Feed the Hungry" and her marketing on the same day.
That is a vast poorly tapped market for first cars for teens.

Cheap, comfortable, good on gas.

Also, you'll find that NO Mustang gets less than 20 on the freeway unless the state of tune is in the "screwed" area. Especially the 4.6 cars.

My uncle's Mach 1 (Ooh, 4-valve...) gets 24-26 on the freeway, and it's an automatic.

This is true, sadly. Most of them around here are beaten into the ground, and more often than not, I'm surprised they run at all. It seems like the Toyota Tacoma could run fairly well too, but I don't know much about them in general.
