It has enough horsepower, I'm sure he would tell you if you asked but I think it would be more of the novelty of owning a new aged Pinto then the speed.

whats a pinto and to tell the truth I wouldnt buy it hes obviously had a load of fun drag racing it and it has its mechanical faults. It also looks stupid with the drag tyresand american focus look poocompared to the uk spec as the slight exterior differences makes the us focus look weid and queer.

You don't know what a Pinto is? It's an ugly, 1970's hatchback with a V8 from Ford. They exploded if you touched the rear of the car.

But I don't like Focuses no matter where they are from, but I'm sure that thing is just rediculously fast.

I'd love to see how it handles. Although that would probably involve killing whoever is driving it...

Also, a Pinto was a small car made by Ford in the 70s that was famous for it's gas tank exploding in rear collisions. *EDIT* Ok, Blazin beat me to it.

That Focus is *****in'! Well, I think it'd be cooler to have a 351 ford 500, but that's just me.

Actually, had Ford spent 150 Dollars extra per car it would have been the safest in the world, but they decided not to offer gas tank bladders and Airbags.

I thought airbogs cost a grand for each unit?

Sweet focus, I remember reading alot about them when the package was first available. I had a focus owning friend and we'd argue for hours about the weight distribution.

Airbags or not.. Stock stereo or no stereo - ME LIKEY !.....

I wish it was possible to register something like that here in crappy DK.....

Yep, you can have a Windsor engine (302/351) or a 4.6 Mod motor in a Focus.

People have been doing this since 2000 at least.

The Ford 4.6 V8 is SUPER-WIDE...how the hell can that fit in a Focus? Got any links for me...as a Focus owner I am definately interested. 👍

You can make anything fit, it just requires a helluva lot of cutting and what not.

Can I stuff the MB 7.3 V12 from the Zonda in my Focus? :sly: I'm kidding BTW.

The engine only needs a new oil pan. You don't have to cut the wheeltubs or shock mounts. Kugel supplies a new K-member, you provide the 9-inch rear.

This is the kit Ford used for their Focus RS8 concept, which has the 5.0 Modular engine availible through Ford performace (the 5.0 and 4.6 share the same envelope, including deck height)

Jesus tap dancing christ! But, my question is will all this work with the 2005 Focus (I've got the ZX5)? OR, would it be cheaper to buy a broken 2000-2004 Focus ZX3 and do the swap? I could easily forget my other project I had in mind for this. That being the LS1 in a '95 240SX. This would be kind of cool, a V8 rumble (with room for 2 turbos according to Kugel) in a little Focus hatchback. Talk about a hot hatch. :sly:

The kugelkomponents Focus is old news... what is new (as of a year or so ago) is that they're selling them to the public. What's nice about the kit is the minimal amount of bodywork required as compared to most frankensteins.

Problem with the modular 5 liter conversion, Ford doesn't warranty the engine, even if you buy it from them direct. :(

^says the guy who works for the competition. (sorry, couldn't resist!)

Yeah, Ford Racing has a catalog called "Fast Focus" with lots of goodies for Focus. I belive they have part #'s on everything you need for the conversion. Personally, their suspension upgrade and HID kit(currently backordered) interests me more though. (I don't even own a focus)

That would be my main concern right there.

If the hoodline changed with the '05 restyle, there might be intake fitment issues. If you are serious, I would say call Kugel. You would definitely need a longer driveshaft.

I'm sure the weight distribution sucks--look at where the shock towers are relative to the motor. But then again, a lot of weight is added to the rear so the overall balance might not be bad. I'd be worried about that Focus radiator dissipating all the heat though.

One thing is for sure. Don't rear end someone in one of these conversions!

If getting a 318ci before summer starts falls through I might now have to get a focus instead of a VW golf as Ive just noticed that for what im getting the golf is expensive when the focus is a better driver car and would be cheaper to run.

So now Im thinking 2002 focus or renault clio sport both with about 40k miles for about £4 grand.

That would just about get me a high milege year 2000 golf.

Right on, YW. From what I hear, Focus is a great car, especially the handling. I know they get pretty good gas mileage, too. I really should've bought the SVT 5-door(or 4-door hatchback, whatever they call it), those were so nice. I don't know anything about Renault Clio, but those are nice looking cars(as with most Renaults).

My heart is pretty much set on a focus now after the 318ci that is. Handles great looks excellent in black, pretty safe for a car its size so my increses of surving if I put the car in a ditch is higher to that of the tiny renault clio and I can fit all my friends in the back.

Only mods Id do to a focus would be

Smoked rear clusters to fuse in with the black paint, black out windows, lowered and some tastefully non race look rims. Then in the boot some subs.

In the U.S., Ford has a lowering/sports spring kit. I think it was around $400-450(US). You get the coil springs, sway bars and shocks, if I remember correctly. Great deal. If you are just getting springs, I'd recommend H&R. I had one in my Accord, my buddy has one in Impreza. Great balance in sports and comfort. I have Eibach Sportline right now(in Nissan Altima), but the ride is bit hard. Especially if you guys have speed bumps like we do in the States. :D

Thanks for the reccomendation. In the UK we have loads of speed bumps and a speed camera every quarter mile.

Heres my modified car come 2006.

Gonna get rid of the spoiler replace those racing look alloys and put on a better looking exhaust. Gonna finish tinting the windows of it aswell. The clusters can stay and I'll probably slap on some 18's.

The front grill will get debadging and those front lights will probably have to get replaced back to stock. Wonder is they do angel eyes. Then to finish it off i'll throw the car on some aftermarket suspension kit and give it a good polish.

Then no more volvo driving for me.

Ah! Sounds just like home. :D

I like the look of the car. I'd just take the spoiler off. If those projector lamps are Ford ones, I think they are worth few hundred bucks. Those rims looks just like mine!

Edit: On the second look, your rims look way better(mine's too bright).
