Your so right about GT5: Prologue.

GT4, GT5: Prologue, Forza 3 and Forza 4 all have better engine sounds then GT5. I just don't see why PD didn't use GT4's engine sounds for GT5.

Some, maybe most, cars got worse. But certain sounds were completely off as far as uniqueness goes. The boxer engines in GT4 sounded like an inline-4, and the rotaries were no better. Some were definitely better though, it seems they improved the bad and ruined the good.

to me Racing sound is:
- the sound that makes when you apply upgrade to your car (for example: transmission - those annoy whining sound)
- Engine upgrade 1, 2, 3, general sound for most of the cars.
- tire and wind sound

Because to me, normal stock car is already awesome (when you use at least good 5.1 surround sound). The only downside people keep on blaming PD about the sound issue is *ONLY* when you modify the car. 99% true.

My brain says do not expect anything you'll be disapointed, my heart can't wait to go to the garage and demo the ZondaR, RM Vettes, SuperGT NSXs, 458 with a race exhaust...
Yes I know, my heart will be broken and my brain will be saying "I told you so"!

Should've listened to my brain...

Agree. only tried a few cars but nothing new. Seriously what I are they doing. I think they realised now that we will buy no matter how good or bad. GT5 is like Mcdonald's, once you go as a child, you keep coming back as an adult even if you don't think it is that good.

The wind noise and the "noise reduction" of different camera angles were changed I guess. I can notice it. In cockpit cam, the noise around the car's pretty feeble, but on hood cam, the noise was like OH WTF ITS SO OBNOXIOUS PLEASE TURN IT OFFFFFFFFF. Even on chase cam, there is a large difference of sound when looking back and when looking forward. The sound also changes when you look left or right.

I couldn't really notice though but cars with big, grunty V8's like the SLS and the SLR somehow have different engine noises... or is it me?

I also noticed this just now. I tried the M3 and it definately sounds more beefed up.
I will look into it later again with louder volume.

Reposting this from the GT5 sound thread:

------------
Two changes I've noticed in the sound after this patch:

1. At least in my open-cockpit Audi R8 Race Car, the wind noise is more pronounced, something that I think needed some more noticeability for all cars.

2. Engine sounds for most cars in general sound a bit 'meatier,' as if slight exhaust upgrade. Or it could just be the placebo effect in action again.

Hi Dcp and Sier bros,
Thanks for some positive post on sounds.. This is the only improvement i prayed hard for it.. seems like many guys here posted only more wind noise added and no change...I really hope i can detect the meatier and beefy engine sound tonight...Even slight improvement is better than no improvement... I had played some cars as reference cars sound yesterday and listen hard so that tonight i can see if i can hear the difference..

Hi guys. pls keep the posts coming and advise if you all noted any more improvement in racing sound? Thanks!

I just tried my Ferrari Italia 458, and it does sound a bit more RAW than before 2.0.2. However if you mash the gas, you still get that annoying gear whine, but if you slightly press the gas you can hear how good it sounds. This is for those with a customizable racing transmission that is. Not sure how the car sounds when stock. Because my 458 is fully modded with everything.

Tunnel sound still sounds the same. I was hoping they enhanced this when going through an underpass or tunnel that the engine/exhaust note of your car is reverbed and amplified like in Forza 4. :(, hope they will keep on improving through the next update the sounds, because they are getting better so far, even though if it's just subtle differences. For the rest of you guys please post your comparison on how you think the sound has improved and what differences are prior to this update.

I'll tell you something (again) though, try driving one of the AMG beasts, especially the SLS. They kinda sound meatier and better now.

Almost all cars I drive in GT5 sound better when looking behind in the cockpit view than when looking forward in the cockpit. Hopefully we will be able to hear more of the behind-sound without having to look behind.

I just fixed the problem myself before the patch released by selecting "2-channel stereo" over the "Virtual surround" option in the options menu. The car now sounds the same when looking front and back in the interior, and I think it sounds better when looking forward in the cockpit with that option selected. I am using the HDTV's stereo speakers as the sound output.

FWIW, just tried out my Superbird in bumper cam on the Daytona Stars and Stripes seasonal, and the transmission noise sounds a bit different... definitely a little less whiny IMO. And I definitely heard the wind noise too.

EDIT: Eh, spoke too soon. Transmission sounds the same as it always has on Cape Ring.

Under options>General>Race Display you can now set up HUD items visibility indipendently!
Under options>Hardware there's now a "SimulView" setting for SimulView-capable dislplay settings

Just tested these cars with V8 engines:

Corvette C6 RM Z06 and ZR1
Corvette C5-R
Panoz Esperante
Mercedes CLK-LM
Mercedes Sauber C9
Camaro Race Car

They didn't improve the engine sounds

Tire sounds are different and higher quality. More of them too, tire noise without skidding (regular straight line tire noise) is loud and clear. I noticed, on my 7.1 high quality home theater connected via HDMI, all sounds are higher quality, like a higher bit-rate or something. It isn't a drastic change, but they do sound better- less muddy.

My testing shows how major sound improvement is done on proper coding of surround (5.1 and more) effects.

MR and RR sound finally comes from behind only while you can clearly dustinguish the sound-side of each tire while squeal. Beofre this update, MR and RR cars had main engine-sounds coming from the central speakers while tire-sound was also mixed onto central speaker, not side-independent.

Also, the cockpit sounds are much more closer to bumper sounds.

Wind-noise is just... mmmmmmmmmmmmmm :D

Great update for all with proper surround-setup.

I don't know how many times I've said it, but this sort of thing is elementary. Check your settings, people. Virtual Surround is 5 channel, presumably for virtual surround headphones that decode the multichannel source themselves. If you've only got two speakers, you should be in stereo mode.

I noticed a more drastic difference in wind noise from being in the draft compared to not in the draft. And tire noise seemed more natural, maybe not though.

That sounds awesome, can't wait to get home from work later today and test out the car sounds on my surround system.

This i like very very very much!

Didn't like everything on there except the Speedometer/Tachometer while in Cockpit view. Looking forward to testing 👍

Any sample vidoes out there (for audio comparisons)?

After playing for a while the sounds seem dramatically improved. The throatiness of the engines come through far more in bumper-cam and cockpit views, that's for sure. And the sound in general is FAR more prominent now in those two views. They both sound like hood cam did before, just louder. Hood cam sounds the same just better quality and again more prominent. But strangly, while the noise coming from the far away cam sounds like it's really good, it seems really muffled more than it was before. But still, the quality of the exhaust notes are far better.

That's just the engine noise. As everyone's pointed out the tire and wind noise is really cool. I didn't hear it at all before through my TV. Never even knew they were there. They are loud and clear now. Another thing I never noticed was crowd cheering. Or I think I only slightly heard it. Now you can even hear it from bumper-can and the cockpit easily. On the outside views the crowd is actually loud.

There are major sound improvements here. Obviously it's just sliders being adjusted on PD's end. But they sure as hell did the right adjustments.
