Enzo sounds the same... (458 sample). And IMHO, the cockpit wind noise is too much! I barely could hear the engine!

Beside the engine sounds, the other effects are much better sampled and reproduced.

I just fixed the problem myself before the patch released by selecting "2-channel stereo" over the "Virtual surround" option in the options menu. The car now sounds the same when looking front and back in the interior, and I think it sounds better when looking forward in the cockpit with that option selected. I am using the HDTV's stereo speakers as the sound output.

I don't know how many times I've said it, but this sort of thing is elementary. Check your settings, people. Virtual Surround is 5 channel, presumably for virtual surround headphones that decode the multichannel source themselves. If you've only got two speakers, you should be in stereo mode.

I've got a pretty basic set-up. Bearing in mind that I have a limited knowledge of how this sort of stuff works, i've just connected my Sony stereo to the AUX output on my TV (I don't have surround sound) and gone from there. I looked through the in-game audio options and i'm running "Linear PCM 2 ch 48kHz" and the speaker layout is set to "Auto", both of which are grayed out and unaccessable to me. Basically, am I running the correct audio output and if not how do I change it? The only option available for me to change is the 'Living Room, Small Theatre, Large Theatre' options.

Any advice would be appreciated as i'm looking to get the best possible sound from my current set-up.

My testing shows how major sound improvement is done on proper coding of surround (5.1 and more) effects.

MR and RR sound finally comes from behind only while you can clearly dustinguish the sound-side of each tire while squeal. Beofre this update, MR and RR cars had main engine-sounds coming from the central speakers while tire-sound was also mixed onto central speaker, not side-independent.

Also, the cockpit sounds are much more closer to bumper sounds.

Wind-noise is just... mmmmmmmmmmmmmm :D

Great update for all with proper surround-setup.

I must say that I really got a great improvement like amar said, and I'm only using a really cheap 5.1 system. It's far from a quality setup, as I'm using 2.1 analog on regular RCA cables, but it does have pro-logic simulation, making the 2.1 as 5.1 and works like heaven for my not-so-trained ears. I listen to the stuff on the right channels. I'm using the "small theater" setting on GT5 options menu.

What's more surprising its I've paid like 50 bucks for this 5.1 system.

I am guessing it's too much at a very high rate of speed (180-200mph?). I can say from experiance that once you pass up 140-150mph you can BARELY hear anything other than the wind.

I have yet to play since the update though. Stuck in school for awhile :(

+1 agree with you there after testing last night.

- cockpit sounds are much more closer to bumper sound (you can hear the bof more clearly coming from the front 3 speakers)
- loud wind noise (only when you doing roughly 180 km/h plus)
- tyre skid noise (not sure how to describe this, but it does sound more real than before)
- more crystal clear engine sound from couple of many type of engine i tried

What they should improve on sound
- gear change sound (it's a sound that is hard to describe, but should not be silence)
- allow us to manually adjust the volume of individual sound (engine, wind noise, tyre, bof...etc)

This is great news because the audio was never quite right with GT5. I plan to check out this 2.02 update over the weekend for sure.

Hmm... 'improved racing sounds'. Today I went on gt5, did the update, then tried out my dodge viper, Ruf btr and chevvy camaro and they all sounded the same as yesterday

Okay, only driven a couple of different cars so far (about 10 or so) but the sounds have definitely changed, and I think for the better.
The engine/exhaust note is a bit throatier and on some cars a bit rawer and on most cars perhaps richer than before.
These differences are mostly subtle, but that's what often makes a huge difference in the perception of sound.
The wind noises are what's really noticeable to anyone, yet they aren't even slightly as annoying as I found them in Prologue, they seem just about right (for a videogame).
I also experienced what I thought to be an increase in overall volume but maybe that's down to adding things like wind noise which may cause the sound to become more dense in total.
Not sure all the above actually makes any sense at all to those much more knowledgeable about the effects of sounds in general than I am, but I am pleasantly surprised so far by these changes.
And my sound system is a dated and crappy one.

Sound is without doubt better. The sounds themselves haven't changed but they have been balanced better.

Before this patch, the tranny was without doubt the most standout noise heard in either bumper or incar view with the exhaust noise etc drowned out in the majority of cases. Now though, I can hear everything with ease. In fact, the tranny is more noticeable on the roof cam now compared to incar (bit strange).

Loving this patch as this sound balance was a bit overdue ....

The '98 mini cooper has a snarl now at higher revs when fully modded. Probably hard to notice changes if people are using the tv speakers lol. Maybe 1/2 the cars I tried had no sound change at all. Would be hard to say without trying the lot haha. Pioneer receiver with 5.1 and hdmi for the win!!

I just got done taking my monster Peugeot 106 with a whopping 247hp :D out on Spa, and it sounds meaner than it did before. You guys who can't hear any changes must be racing only the superduper machines - and possibly have tin ears. The Saleen S7 I was chasing sounded much more obnoxious this time.

PD does need to patch in sliders controlling all the aspects of sound as mentioned before: engine/exhaust, tranny/shifting, tires, wind, chassis sounds, backfiring, etc. But for now, this is sounding great just on my TV speakers. When I get the stereo going down here, it's going to be seriously cool.

If you're not using the HDMI or Optical output for sound, then you can only have stereo. The game goes off the system settings (in the XMB), if you're using he composite / SCART connection for the TV, you're limited to stereo, which would be why the game has the options greyed out.

In essence, you're probably doing it right, yes. Sadly, the stereo mix is (was?) much inferior in terms of spatial separation and general ambience, but it's better than only receiving (less than) half the sounds by forcing the game to output surround and only using two speakers. 👍

A big thumbs up from me. I love the new engine sounds, throaty deeper engine notes and not many people have commented on the much improved braking sounds and tyre squeal sounds less digital and deeper. Happy customer here !

Under options>General>Race Display you can now set up HUD items visibility indipendently!
Under options>Hardware there's now a "SimulView" setting for SimulView-capable dislplay settings

ABOUT F'ING TIME! It was the little things like this that would irritate me like no other. Glad they finally used their better judgment and did something right (i.e. complete).

No it isn't. Sound channels were equalized and re-distributed. The engine sounds are almost the same, but the effects were worked. Wind noise, tire noise, etc.

Did they finally balance the staging so that the engine noise isn't coming directly out of the L or R speakers? I understand that sitting in the drivers side on the left would "sort of" mean the engine was to your right, but their sound engineer took it a little too far.

Is there any way to disable the dynamics in the chase cam? I liked it better before. I don't want to make it seem like I'm drunk lol.

If you happen to disable the suggested gear indicator, please report in this thread your impressions. I've found out it has a huge impact on driving, it should be promoted to "driving aid".

Everybody is gone so the system is cranked up. Ohhh baby, just drove on the ring with KAZ GTR simply amazing. My brother was in the other room screaming WTF is that  I love the fact we can hear the wind now.

Yeah, you're correct. I'm using the composite/SCART option in the XMB audio settings. It still sounds excellent though, so i'm happy with what i've got. That said, I might still invest in a decent set-up in the near future.....Anyway, thanks for the advice, much appreciated!

Sounds are horrible now. I can't even hear my own engine to know when to shift during the new seasonal. Whenever I am near other cars I hear their engines which are WAY too loud and drown out mine completely. Add in the wind and I have no audible way to know when to shift. So lame.

I guess I'll have to mess with my surround sound in hopes of actually making my cars engine the one I hear loudest.
