Yeah, I suppose it is a good time to say it, as San Andreas is just about here and this won't be as active anymore.

So, thank you very much Spuds for maintaining this Record Book so well. It was done very well, and it contributed to you giving me a few tips about my Record Book (coming soon). So, again, thank you.

Yeah, well done Spuds, you're a huge asset to this forum, you always will be, thanks 👍

Vice Point Chopper Checkpoint: 1:08 :D

You mean I gotta load up my game and beat these records now?

Nuts to you. :grumpy:

At first I thought you'd beaten 3 of my Street Race times. Them I don't want beaten. Too much bloody effort to try and beat them again and I've only got 'til Friday to do it. But I think I'll make a stab at those chopper times again.

How the hell are you guys getting such good Chopper Checkpoint records? Is it a perfect run, a different strategy/route. If you don't mind sharing, I'd like to know. Otherwise, PM them to me. Or, if you don't want anyone to know, leave me in frustration and confusion, as you fly off into the Sunset (or Checkpoint).

Jimmy,

in case you never read back a ways but you have to fly the routes perfectly and to get a good start you need to do a running bump start-- what I mean is get in a sparrow, fly it a short distance away. get out to end it, get back in and as you are flying sort of bump the ground where the sparrow is normally parked---if you hit the right spot the checkpoint will start and right away you wiped off around 5-7 seconds. After that, you do need to figure out routes, shortcuts and essentially fly the sparrow very agressively--you need to essentially keep repeating one of them til you know it in your sleep and then fly flawlessly-- my times were pretty good but far from flawless and I'm too impatient to try and improve them....

Thanks for the Kudos for running the book--its been fun-- I'm sure its not dead but it will taper off--

Deli-- I'm gonna update your records later on---time to play SA 👍 Its been a long 2 years....can't wait any longer---Urge to kill rising...

Once again-- I'm probably going to avoid the main page here so i anyone posts to me any question at a thread other then this or superjump thread-- I probably won't see it.

Like Spuds said, you just have to do the races over and over and over and over etc. until you are able to fly through the course as aggressively as possible. You should rarely not have your chopper dipped forward so it's going at max speed. Use the trick Spuds mentioned to knock about 5 seconds off your time at the start.

There's no real shortcuts as such. There's no side streets or the like you can use to shorten the route much. There are a couple of places (in Vice Point and Ocean Beach) where you can deliberately fly the chopper into the ground to pick up a checkpoint on the ground and it will bounce you up quickly and help clear a high building rise up to collect the next checkpoint quicker.

One place where you have a choice or routes is through the final set of trees on the Vice Point checkpoint race. There's a tight route through the trees that is potentially faster but it's harder to pull off than the alternate longer route.

Try to avoid unnecessarily lowering and raising the chopper in the air. When collecting low down checkpoints, try to skim the top of it and do the reverse for higher up checkpoints. That will help keep your speed at a maximum. Too much up and down will slow you down. Also if you lower too much to pick up street level checkpoints you're much more likely to hit lamppost and street lights, and if you're travelling at speed it can bounce you back quite a bit and wreck a good run.

There's much more luck and frustration involved in the Street Races because the traffic is so random - you never know if you're going to collide headfirst into traffic when you zoom round a blind corner at high speed. At least with the Chopper Checkpoints it's the same course every time with the same obstacles in the same places.

The best way I find is to pick a course and do it repeatedly in one session. That way you'll slowly figure out the course and start to learn how to take corners tightly and how to avoid hitting obstacles. When I was doing the courses, I'd regularly do the same one 20 times in a row in an attempt to shave seconds off my time.

Bring it on! :trouble:

You could probably beat Ocean Beach, but for Vice Point, shall I say perfect run?

@ Jimmy: Spuds and KM gave a good explanation of the Chopper Checkpoints. I just don't seem to get bored when I do them over and over again for hours! But, the bump and run thing that Spuds explained, I don't do that. I just get in the chopper, wait about 6 seconds, then get out without closing the door, and immediatly get back in and start the race. I didn't know about the bump and run. Could you get a flying start that way? Like quickly fly towards the spot, barely touch to start the race, and have a lot of forward momentum? That sure would help on Downtown! ;)

I don't think it helps much on that one--don't you have that big climb to start off??-- I think it helps most on Little haiti since you stay low for that one so you have decent forward momentum---KM would be the one to answer this....

Thanks for that. I already do the bump-start thing. Also, one thing I haven't perfected yet is the last turn on the Vice Point Chopper Checkpoint. It's hard to perfect.

Blake -- Well it was good while it lasted...

PCJ, hence with a better run (traffic wise) I think I could gain a bit just by the extra time ducking. It's not such a great time, only a tie with 100 other people for 2nd.

I reckon that 49, maybe 48 seconds is possible with a perfect run and if the turn at the south end of Ocean Beach is taken as well as you can with a PCJ.

I'm sure it is, I'll have a proper crack at it tommorow arvo (I had two successful runs at this and I get that time)

I saw that there were some new posts in this thread, so I thought that KM had regained his title or something! I guess not. Oh well, back to San Andreas! :D

I like that race too but its so short and so far away from SSA's to start--- one of these days I'll make a proper run on that record-- The traffic heading back north is what kills me--- I don't have time to update-- I promise tomorrow. I'm working today and tomorrow-- I'll get more SA time in on Friday morning--

Yeah, the travel time between SSA and Start Line kills so much (possble) race time.

Hey now! I like Chopper Checkpoints because they require practically no setup. If you mess up on the race, just fly back to the start and have another go! Keeps me entertained for hours. ;)

Also because you have to use a PCJ to get a good time, you end up crashing and wiping out about 90% of the time which is a real pain in the ass. At least with the Hotring Racer in a race you can handle the odd bump without totally screwing up the race. edit - now that I think of it, that makes no sense. All my good times were collision free in the other races.

Updated--- probably going to be the last update for a while-- everyone should have SA by tomorrow.
Looks like Deli Dingo will keep those 2 chopper checkpoint records then. I can't be bothered trying and I'll hopefully have my copy of SA tomorrow.

Yes , then it can begin :D
Anyway , how in the hell do you guys have time to set those records :)

Pretty much anyone in a top spot in a stat category in the book has no life what so ever, and are not ashamed to admit it to the world.

I can't speak for anyone else, but to me, the recordbook became a way to set goals for myself and continue to play one of the greatest games of all time-- I've played other games and always come back to VC-- until I discovered this recordbook, I really had no reason to try and master any one race or stat or anything-- the competition becomes spirited at times and it pushes you to improve yourself--
Acidman and me in our killing competition, KM and me in Headshots, KM and Acidman and me in killing gang members, street racing etc..,

-- I also like to figure thing out and ways to beat things--- trying new methods etc... I'd like to think of myself as an inovator (is that spelled right) in a few categories and I'd like to see someone come up with any more ways to kill as fast as either of the 2 ways I discovered, headshots--I have a pretty fast method but it gets boring, seagulls sniped, boats destroyed---I have a few secret methods also.

Anyway, thats just me... I can't speak for everyone, but I bet its along those lines with others...

That's pretty much it. I first came to this forum, I'd been playing for a few months. I had 100% and I thought my stats were pretty neat.

But soon afterwards Shannon started the first version of the recordbook and it was a cool idea because it gave everyone an excuse to try beating each others stats. That's when the serious killing started. I had to drop out of the race because I saved over my game. When I got back up to 100%, I was way behind so I decided to concentrate on other records I could beat. Hence I got into the chopper checkpoints and the street racing. I also found a pretty effective headshot method and overtook everyone else in that stat.

The recordbook idea is cool because when you have 100%, although you can do the races and break your records, it's impossible to know how good or bad you really are. With everyone trying to break each others records though, you have to get pretty good if you want to keep your place.
