THe coolest owner in the paddock. And that's exactly why I moved here(shh don't tell my wife)! :)

Lol that's funny! She is pretty laid back.

Good morning DRIFT4EVA, please would you be so kind to update the voting poll as to include the Nissan and Erebus Motorsport V8 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG? If it's possible. Thank you.

It is, and it has been 👍.

:) voted ....And the cheese stands alone. Haha Thanks.

Coverage has begun on 7 Mate. They're just bringing us up to speed before the race.

First race starts about hour from now. I couldn't even try to drive without a cool suit today, it's in mid 90s with no overcast. I'm already sunburnt fr yesterday.

Not much relief out on track I see. Seems like cars are gonna struggle real quick.

NISMO LOOKING REEAALLL GOOD!

Tough break for McLauglin (spelling?)
Bit of a bad move from Winterbottom, but he's probably wanted to do that for ages haha

Hahaha "Dr Karl, Where are you?!"

Yeah tough for the young guy. Good thing there are 3 more races.

Is this on Speed?

I'm so loving this race right now!!

This track better be slated for DLC on GT6 is all I have to say!!

Definitely a good track. I agree.
Looks like relief by cloud cover. This will help NISMO for sure.

I hope not we would get constant short cut penalties trying the lines they use.

Everyone enjoying the Red Bull 400? :p

The only thing it seems is the field spreads out alot with very little time to make up huge gaps.

Now do you have to pit at all? The reason I ask is because Bright went to what lap 25 before pitting, so I don't know fuel load or anything outside some were saving tires for tomorrow.

Mandatory pits yes. I think they are saving tires for tomorrow with a different strategy.

Pit stops were purely for this event and using the hard tyre for unknown tyre degradation. After all this, I think soft tyres would have done more good ( maybe not for Rick Kelly being even faster using even more fuel) for those struggling with set up. Frosty would have been left in the dust by Rick and I think Lowndes would have attacked better. 2 more races to go. If Cheeseburger(and/or Webb) can qualify better, NISMO run in the top five and Lowndes keeps it together, it'll be a good finale.

I think that's more a byproduct of the format than anything else. It works well on circuits like Pukekohe and Barbagallo, where the circuit is short and the corners are regularly spaced apart. But I think the Circuit of the Americas would be better-suited to a format like the Clipsal 500, with two races of 250km each. The four-by-one hundred format appears to be an attempt to cram as much racing as possible into the weekend, but I don't think it has really worked.

I agree with that, I think 2 longer races that actually used some planning would be better. I'm sure tomorrow will be little more action packed since they don't have to save cars as much.

The drivers are already offering feedback on what can be done next year:

http://www.speedcafe.com/2013/05/19/drivers-suggest-changes-to-spice-up-austin-400/

Most of them want to bring the soft compound tyres, and a few of them have suggested running on the full circuit.

Oh man. The full course would have done FPR much better. Refuelling and tyre change much better. Since this is the feature, I agree with the earlier posts about longer races both days. It just need to be earlier in the year so as to not conflict with US ticket sales from other events. I'm watching NASCAR and think of all those potential MOTORSPORT fans that could have been at COTA.

Well, I've got the All-Star Race on in the background, and the thing that has struck me the most is the way that I have absolutely no idea what is happening. I think part of the problem - and V8 Supercars is equally guilty of this - is that the organisers dream up these complex gimmicks for the sake of giving individual events a bit of personality. But these gimmicks often take the form of unnecessarily complex rules that make things hard to follow.

Pardon the double-post, but I'm watching the highlights now on local television. They definately need to use the longer circuit in the future - the short circuit is just an endless sequence of corners, and the drivers don't really have a chance to open up on the throttle. The main straight is the only real opportunity to build up any speed.

I wouldn't be surprised if the event gets reimagined as an endurance race next year. The endurance regulations have been opened up to allow teams to take whichever drivers they like from race to race (though they can't partner regular drivers together). With the Gold Coast event being in doubt, the organisers might consider moving the race to Texas, and try to get some local knowledge and experience - primarily in the shape of ALMS drivers - in the cars.

If they do try, they better either pick spring or fall to run it here, 27 laps about killed some of them with a cool suit. I mean it was blazing hot today but I think it would be a great event to see them do endurance racing in general. I'm shocked at just how many guys came over from Australia to watch this.

One big issue they need to do is help find the track as it is in middle of no where to a degree with no signs to get to it. There was a couple who expected to be able to take a shuttle to it and ended up having to use a cab because they don't have any this year which cost them $45 one way.

Tomorrow will be exciting and I think I got 15 lbs of posters to take home it seems!

The autumn works fine - the endurance season typically runs through September and October.

That's a Good idea for an enduro. Just gotta watch the hurricane season around that time.

If they could get NASCAR drivers to partner up somehow might be an added bonus however, NASCAR every weekend hurts that idea. I'm looking at race 14 as well but, I don't see much lighting for an into-the-evening race under lights.

What would think if F1 drivers were to race this weekend in a two race enduro?

I don't any F1 will do it for contract reasons.

The only issue I see with this is lights as they don't have any for track.

It doesn't have to go into the evening. The Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000 are run in such a way that they finish before (or at) 5pm local time. The full Circuit of the Americas layout is shorter than Mount Panorama and is almost certainly going to be faster, so even if an endrance race was run over 1000km, it could start in the mid-morning and be comfortably finished before sundown.
