Looks like illegal work on Whincup's car by the car controller to me. That corner was damaged when Whincup hit the tyre bundle, then taped up at the first stop. It looks like the controller was checking the strength of the repair job, which would be illegal work - and the guy on the front-right tyre clearly points at him, calling him out.

And he just got a penalty for it.

And drive through penalty for him, oh boy glad James Courtney is going to win.

EDIT:

It's obvious he touched it, he even did a double take to make it easier for them to get the penalty, and they're going to BS with the stewart....smh

Race director said everyone else maintained pace and we had two violators supposedly, yet how is this the case if all 23 others were fine yet nearly ran over Jamie after we're told they were maintaining as they should.

Now we have a violation from Whincup's crew and I'm not seeing the same quickness to make the call.

EDIT:

Now we get an investigation.

Yes...
But when SVG and Rick got to the AZ and went, Whincup didn't straight away because of how the procedure was described in the drivers brief whereas everyone else did.

But nothing matters now. They got a penalty anyway.

Guess I missed a whole lot. Just read the posts. At this point, I want anyone to win but Whincup. Please no safety car.

Whincup can't win now he just had a drive through

He has to survive twenty laps.

Both sides have a case: that corner of the car had been taped up, so the stewards could argue that he was checking the strength if the repair. At the sane time, Mark Dutton was right - you can't repair a car by touching it.

At the end of the day, the rules say no touching so that there is no room for argument.

On a side note. Is there a particular amount in which the wheels have to spin (when in air having a pitstop) for a penalty to be enforced?
Whincup's wheels spun before he hit the ground in that stop too.

Yep, plenty of racing still left in this one.

Sidenote, Percat's in 4th. 👍
Got to be there at the end I guess. Good on him for keeping out of trouble!

Triple 8 follow rules as written, benefit from it (first restart).

Triple 8 violate rules as written, get a penalty and have a massive whinge about it.

Sounds about right.

No, I'm pretty sure that any movement of the wheels while on the jacks constitutes a penalty.

He's off! :D That was a brutal dive bomb!

Channeling his inner Van Gisbergen with that move.

Unless the inform the stewards in advance - they can spin the wheels under controlled circumstances if they think they have a gearbox problem.

Whinecup's day is done!

Holdsworth fastest lap of the race so far. Thats gotta get a point at the end of the race. Quick, someone rewrite the rules.
Good to see The Future in 3rd. YAY!!!!

Thought so. Thanks for that.

Rules are straight forward no touching the car, whether he has the touch of zues to fix it with his damn pinky it doesn't matter. Rules say and they read them in the feed, no touching. You work with the English language I remember you saying, and that's pretty black and white so not sure why you're run about the bush.

Even after you add the last line, so there is no argument and you replying to me was for what??? Other than the first part.

What does it matter Whincup is out.

Haha, Whincup into the kitty litter after tangling with Caruso. Kharma is a bitch ;).

Edit: Damaged Caruso - hopefully he cops a points penalty like courtney.

Sucks for Caruso. Aww no, Scotty. Dang, I did mention no safety car....

Nooooooo! McLaughlin has stopped on the circuit!

Devastating for Volvo!

Damn, Volvo out now. Whincup took out the only Nissan up there, so are we all Holdens up front now? :grumpy:

Poo, looks like Scotty's done for the day. :grumpy:

And the SC means Lowndes is going to right behind JC. :nervous: Fingers crossed that Percat can hold on a score his first solo podium.

:( Scotty nooooo! Damn it, he was in 3rd place too.

Volvo needs to sorted out the mechanical bugs but they have been impressive in their first race weekend.

It's to be expected, but what they need to do is sort out Dahlgren. Can't having him plodding along at the back of qualy and race day if they want to progress the car.
