:( Scotty nooooo! Damn it, he was in 3rd place too.

After Dahlgren's issues in qualifying and in the race itself, I feared this would happen to Scotty's car. Sucks it had happen so late in the race when he was on track for another podium.

SVG looks wicked quick, hopefully Percat can hold him off.

Edit: Poo again. :grumpy:

Too much pressure for the young blood.

Yeah, can't blame them for putting a Swede in a Swedish-badged car, but surely team results are more important.

SVG balls to the wall at the moment, but I think he's run out of laps. Percat gone!

Race is now dictated by time limit...

I think Lowndes tyres are toast. One lap to go.

Hate the time certain crap!
Run the damn race to the end!!!

C'mon Lowndes!

Real disappointing for Percat especially when he was looking down the barrel of a podium.

Come on Courtney!

James can get this Whoa!!!

Good job Courtney, glad I called the win for him after Whincup's troubles. And good job Rick with the comeback in the Nissan

HRT win it! Good Race!

Rats. Perkins is a turkey. Great race by HRT. Great to see Mobil 1 back on the bonnet too, they look awesome on track! Seems some very promising signs at HRT.

Hell yeah, great race JC, 15th to 1st!

*Happydance*

That was a mental race. Great to see JC get the win. One of my favourite drivers in the field. Shattered for Scotty and Percat but promising signs all round

It was like the result was too heavily affected by penalties. I know it's wrong to say, but it was, so many of the top runners had their race ruined. And in some cases for debatable offenses.

They've got to have rules, for safety yes, but it's just not good to have a race heavily affected by it.

Also those close packed re-starts are a recipe for problems. /ENDRANT

Love ya work Gizzy, if it wasn't for that stupid penalty (I actually love the restart zone) he would of won it!

That was the best Clipsal I've been to in the 9 years I've gone. The 2nd and 3rd races were epic with all the action and good racing. But I'm not sure about Volvo performing so well already, everyone's happy for them but they won't be when they start winning everything. I'll post pics soon and maybe some video of the last few laps when percat and lowndes hit the wall at turn 8.

Predictably, Roland Dane is unhappy with Whincup's penalty. Which is laughable, given that Triple Eight pride themselves on knowing the rule book inside and out - Mark Larkham even praised them for it on air when Kelly and SVG got pinged for speeding before the acceleration zone.

If the penalty for Kelly and SVG was legitimate, however obscure the rule they broke was, then the penalty against Whincup was also legitimate. The replay clearly showed him clouding the tyre bundle and damaging the splitter early in the race, which was later reinforced with tape. By touching the car, the car controller could have been checking how well the improvised repair was holding up. And the team knew the car was damaged there, so they would not be stupid enough for someone to put their weight on that part of the car to check inside the wheel well. Likewise, as Damian White pointed out, the car controller is supposed to keep his eyes on the lane at all times.

Perhaps Roland Dane would be better off focusing his energies on something constructive, like restart procedures. At the very least, the acceleration zone needs to be clearly marked on the circuit. And perhaps it should be located somewhere else on the circuit - Wakefield Street would have been better.

Just seen race 3. Gutted for McLaughlin, 12 laps from another podium. Lowndes is a lucky boy, painting the Turn 8 wall on the last lap but getting it back regardless. Good drives from van Gisbergan and Rick Kelly to get back from drive-throughs into the top 5. Glad to see Jason Bright is OK.

Can't really comment on the penalties as I'm not familiar enough with the series. Another entertaining race though 👍

They were unusual penalties, based on obscure parts of the rule book. I think the controversy surrounding the Kelly/SVG penalty in particular was based more on people not understanding why they were penalised in the first place, and by the time an explanation was given, it had already been judged.

2 weeks to completely build a new car

What a great weekend. Lived the racing, certainly the best Clipsal 500 for a long time, despite the revised format. Was very happy to see Volvo get a podium in only their first event, a real shame about race 3 though. The penalties were definitely quite a bit obscure, but rules are rules. It was very confusing for people at the circuit, for sure. Back to the revised format, as a spectator at the track, I'm not really a big fan. It was pretty cool to see the cars in the warm golden time light but the day became very drawn out, with a lot of time with no on-track events. I wasn't at the track from opening, but for the ones that were, that would've been a 12 hour day, even longer if you're seeing the bands playing afterwards. The two race format for Saturday goes against the idea of the semi-endurance aspect the event has held in the past, although the races were very good (race 2 mostly). Anyway here's a photo I took on Saturdsy after Race 2:

I have been thinking about how the sport can handle restarts after yesterday's mishap. I like the idea of using the acceleration zones, but I think the execution needs work.

First, the zone needs to be clearly marked, probably on the circuit itself. Lines across the circuit would be best. It should also be bigger.

Next, the leader would control the pace. Before he gets into the zone, he chooses the left side or the right. Once they are in the zone, drivers can either choose to stay behind the leader, or move into the other lane. The leader still controls the pace, but the idea is to limit the cars to going two abreast into the first corner, rather than four abreast.

Great weekend for Lowndes and Holden! 3 different winners, 3 poles, won the Clipsal 500, leading drivers and teams championship!

Hope Lowndes can keep up the momentum, he impressed me on the weekend

Good result for Holden, makes me happy! It would have been nice to see Percat maintain 3rd or 4th though instead of crashing out towards the end.

The incident where Bright ended up rolling shows the problem with AZ zone re-starts, just too much bunching of the cars. It will keep being a recipe for problems, un-naturally bunch the cars up like that and things are going to keep happening.

Allow the lead car to dictate pace and he can jump on the throttle at what will be the natural time to get a good run. Which will in itself make the following cars follow in a more natural ( and therefore safe ) spacing(s).

That's what was done last year. And the problem was that the leader broke away too quickly, and everyone would react one by one. They would still travel in single file, but they would be at race speed.
