Just read in Auto Action, Renault may be a future brand and Skaife noted two manufacturers announcements( probably Volvo was one) this year and possibly Chrysler.

Auto Action have a bit of a reputation for not doing their due diligence if it means they can get a bigger and bolder headline.

It'll be interesting to see if Volvo get a works driver and/or someone they have their eyes on, into the 2014 Bathurst 12H as preparation for the enduros? Think Rydell was already called for next years Bathurst 1000?

Funny that you mention something like that.

Swedish ace downplays V8 Supercar chances.
Long-time Polestar factory driver Robert Dahlgren has downplayed his chances of joining the V8 Supercars Championship with Volvo’s new factory effort next season.
The role of Swedish performance firm Polestar in the deal between Volvo Car Australia and Garry Rogers Motorsport has led to suggestions that a Swedish driver could be considered for the program.
Dahlgren has been at the centre of the talk having attended the Brisbane launch on Monday, where he was involved in the promotion of the new Volvo S60 Polestar road car that he helped develop.
Dahlgren has been a Polestar driver since the brand started in 2004 and currently competes in the outfit’s five-car Scandinavian Touring Car Championship operation.
At Monday’s announcement, team owner Garry Rogers stated a preference to keep his current drivers Alexandre Premat and Scott McLaughlin for next season, but left the door open for change.

Just moved to Melbourne. No Internet and mobile phone connection dropping out. Missing Le Mans and possibly the British GP. NOT A GOOD WEEK!

Jaguar rejects V8 Supercar approaches.
Iconic British make Jaguar has weighed up but rejected two offers from V8 Supercar teams to race its XF-R sedan in the series.

According to a report in the Fairfax press, two leading V8 Supercar teams approached the manufacturer, however following a feasibility study, the manufacturer decided against following the path of Nissan, Volvo and AMG Mercedes-Benz.

"We have been approached by two teams and we looked at the economics and demographics and I did briefly discuss it with [Jaguar's global brand director] Adrian [Hallmark]," Asia-Pacific Jaguar boss David Blackhall told Fairfax.

"In the end, the business decision based around that is just insane. The budget required to field two teams that could actually run near the front of the grid was, in our world, astronomical. And the demographic didn't work for us either.

"We did take a serious look at it, but we have said no."
"That's not where we want to be," said Blackhall regarding V8 Supercars.

"I don't know what it does for AMG getting flogged by a V8 Commodore every week.

"The same issue will be faced by Volvo, which has to convert a 20-year old Yamaha V8 into a racing engine. Good luck to them both."

Wow, that Jaguar guy sounds like a total jerk. What I got from that was "we're too good for that". Whatever, don't need you anyway, and they'll be kicking themselves when Volvo starts having success.

He has a point with regards to AMG. It doesn't need to enter v8sc being an established marque.

As for Volvo it's actually good for them as GRM are experienced and with factory backing could be a real pain.

On top of that its ideal for Volvo to build its Polestar brand.

Don't really see the point in giving up the V8s the formula Australia has for Touring cars isn't like any other and as long as manufactures have road going performance sedans, I really don't see the reason to change, only if international racing is the ploy. I get it the world is changing and people want smaller sized cars, the average person can't afford a car that is 45-60k USD and then go out and spend 3.50-4 USD a gallon on gas only to get 18 miles to the gallon on a good day. However, that isn't the point, V8 supercars aren't any closer to their real life counter parts more so since the COTF, and there are several series that run production cars that are completely different internally come race trim. Hell some of these cars aren't even production based, they just look the part *coughnascarcough*.

Australia and the world would just be seeing another Touring car game if Australia dropped the V8s and becoming something that was similar to group A touring.

THIS. Exactly this. I'd stop watching if they gave up on the V8 engine - what difference would they be from, say, the WTCC or BTCC then? The V8 bit is what makes the series - the NOISE, the SPECTACLE.

You know, those things fans love about motorsports but manufacturers don't care about because all they want is to advertise their nice new 4-cylinder engine. I thought motorsport was where excess goes, it has a tangental link to the real world but it's where the boundaries are pushed.

Agreed 100%.

yep, exactly why NASCAR is successful.

the Jaguar thing is funny, they fail to see the bigger picture even with their past success. I wonder which big teams approached them. if it were HRT(TWR) I could see that and maybe it could spark interest in the brand with the new F-Type arriving and remembering the TWR XJ V12 days. it could have opened up ideas to make a budget XFR of some sort. oh well,...

I hope its true about Nssan Motorsport looking at bringing interanational drivers to race the enduros next year. There should be a GT Academy "V8" Australia since Nissan Motorsport want to field more cars :)

Bring back GT Academy to Australia, and make the winners prize a run at Bathurst with a Nissan team? :sly:

Walkinshaw Performance and FPR, They offered to use thier own engines and just fire on a XF-R body but they wanted the funding from Jaguar directly.

Considering how much Volvo are putting in (just over $6 million) i can think of better things to spend it on so don't blame Jaguar.

FPR? Is that confirmation that they won't be with Ford after this year? I mean, why would they be looking?

Walkinshaw Performance..........

Not to sound like a douche, but do you have a source for that? Just seems a little strange to me. That the outfit running the factory Holden team, would be in conversation with another manufacturer.

Walkinshaw aren't running the factory Holden team, they are running a factory Holden team.

Triple 8 run the other factory Holden team so Holden would still have a factory team.

There should still be Ford's after this year, the team are just looking to secure thier future from what i've heard.

So true, boundaries being pushed by overpowered version of cars that we can never own, but watch. I get that auto groups want to sell cars, but racing goes beyond the fictional idea that just because a Holden wins a championship it is certifiably better than Ford or any other competitor.

A source is still needed, and what could they put it too, the non-WEC venture that they were going to do a couple years ago. Or the hybrid-hyper car they put on ice due to the "economy"? These days Jaguar can't be bothered with anything it seems.

Walkinshaw used to run Jaguars back in the 1980s.

And it's possible that they were looking to offload the #66 REC to another manufacturer so as to concentrate on running HRT.

Well, one of the two teams to approach Jaguar was apparently Brad Jones Racing, according to Speedcafe.com. Going off on a bit of a conspiracy theorist tangent here; considering Brad Jones is an ambassador for Audi Australia we could possibly rule out Audi joining the sport any time soon as I'd imagine if the German marque were to link up with any team, it would be BJR. If they're trying to get Jaguar or any other companies in the sport then it might be safe to assume Audi don't want in for the time being. But that's just my crazy opinion, I'm sure now that I've posted this Audi will soon announce that they will be joining the V8 field with one of BJR's competitors.
