When PD said that a few manufacturers were going to give us their vision of cars in the future I was really looking forward to it.
Two of the cars we have got so far are IMO visually stunning. However I am not yet impressed by their performance. How about you?

GT6 has plenty of cars, is having more really a priority? Kaz complained in his sound blog that there's not enough staff to make the sounds better, I say that there are plenty but that they're tied up chasing their own brain storms & Kaz's "vision".

Yes, it's interesting to see what designs the car companies have come up with. Yes, looking at them in Gallery View is spectacular. But it doesn't address any of the issues people have with this game. In my opinion, the time that all of this is eating up could be best served elsewhere.

Then we come to the issue of forcing everyone to download huge video files. I give up...

I've really liked the driving sensation of some of them in default trim, but since I'm not a Tuner I'll need to try some tunes from others before I can formulate an opinion on how their performance compares to my favorite top performing "normal" cars. Visually some of them seem to look a bit "cartoonish" and lacking in realistic 1) reflections, 2) material textures and the 3) shadows they cast on the pavement and other objects.

What do you think when mentioning their performance?
They are concept cars! They dont exsist on the road and most likely they wont.
And the future belongs to electric and hybrid cars, and not some 6.0 V12 monsters with over 1000hp.

If thats what you expected from VGT cars then youll be dissapointed with each one theyll add to the game.
Today its not about HP anymore..

Kaz said that the cars' release dates depend on the manufacturer, so I don't think PD is using up much time in this process.

It takes PD 6 months work to model 1 car, & Kaz only wants PD staff modelling cars, you do the math.

Each car is modeled by one person. I'm sure they have more than one person working on modeling.

I've yet to watch the Vision videos. If I want to watch them I could go on youtube. I don't need gigs of space eaten up by that BS.

And the cars? I'd rather have real ones. GT is no place for fake cars IMO.

Yes that's right, 1 person models each car at PD. Let me do the math for you! There are 29 VGT cars at the moment (excluding the duplicate AMG), so that's a team of 29 people spending 6 months work each on this project, a project which no fans ever asked for.

29 x 6 months = 14 & a half years worth of man hours! If they spent 14 & a half years of man hours improving the sound, making a livery editor, or even a championship editor, I think more fans would be pleased & it would therefore be a better allocation of human resources.

Except car modelers can't do that. They're job is to model the cars. Although I wouldn't doubt there might be a couple that have been tasked with other jobs.

Meanwhile, I really like the idea behind Vision GT. Letting the manufacturers create a concept that can actually be utilized. The videos put a lot more meaning into what they're trying to do and that's very nice. Always intrigued me the companies went out of their way to create life-size clay models. That's some dedication.

You assume that most car modellers at PD only do that one job. Because PD is a very small company compared to others, I presume that most people who work there are capable multitaskers. That said, there's no way of knowing this unless PD communicates such information to us, which is very unlikely.

How does it take 6 months working 40 hours a week to model ONE CAR? You're telling me it takes 1,500 hours of honest-to-goodness work, to produce one fictional model of a car from start to finish?

What? Are 1,400 of those hours spent asleep or daydreaming?

Or watch the end-game credits. I'll look at it myself later to see if my 'theory' checks out.

That's a good idea!

This is another reason why I think that each member of staff at PD is involved in modelling cars:

Kaz says that he insists on the "One person, one car" policy, in which every single car (premium, I suppose) must be modeled by one person only, from top to bottom, so that each staff member can reflect the qualities of Shokunins (職人), which is closely defined as "Craftsman" or "artisan" in English (Now we know why they can't make every standard into premiums...they should just hire more people, I think).

Source 1. Source 2.

I took that to mean that each & every member of staff at PD were involved in car modelling, whether they liked it or not. It's all part of this Shokunin ideology apparently.

Sounds like forced labor.

But yeah I read about "Shokunin" and makes me wonder just how big, or small, their modelling team is to operate this way.

I find the notion of driving concept cars completely unappealing, personally. As someone stated, I would rather we get real licensed production cars as DLC.

I don't hate it per say, I'm just not interested.

Some of these cars look amazing, the new Aston being one of them. But...I find the whole project weird and a waste of time though. As much as I have made sure to do a lap to get the cars (I wouldn't feel right spending the credits on them later) I'm not really interested in driving them once I have them. Like @TopherDL said driving concept cars isn't really appealing. I also feel that the time and resources that both PD and the auto manufacturers are putting into creating these virtual vehicles is wasteful. The efforts of the PD employees should be put towards modeling real cars like the E30 M3, Ferrari F50 or Lotus Cortina. As for what the auto manufacturers are getting out of the deal I can only imagine it is money spent by Sony/PD. There's very little marketing value as far as I can tell.

It seems to be a strange way for DP to deploy their resources when there are so many more important areas that are still missing from the game. I can only surmise that this somehow floats Kaz's boat whereas satisfying customer's desires for the package they thought they were buying seems pretty low on his list:(

My guess is PD is contractually obligated to fulfill the VGT projects with each of those manufacturers and design firms and have been since before GT6 was released. That would mean they would have had to set aside time and resourcs for modeling the VGT cars. This isn't to say the resources couldn't be used somewhere else to more effect though if the VGT project didn't exist in the first place.

I really like them, all though some of their designs are too over the top. I don't really mind the interior, since I'm always on the hood camera. I think they handle nicely, some tricky. The one thing i really don't like though, is you cant use them too often on offline races, because they're either underperforming or you have to handicap them.

I like this project. It provides a broader GT6 experience. And it invites us onto the bleeding edge of design thinking.

I get to see concept cars, place them in my own chosen surroundings, with my chosen lighting and then photograph them. I drive them and then video the result. Never been able to do that at an auto show!

I may be wrong, but the Vision project seems to provide a stronger bond between the car manufacturers and Gran Turismo. My guess is that we benefit from this unique relationship long term.

I'm not particularly impressed, but I also don't know what they could have come up with that would have impressed me. So even though I'm not particularly impressed, I wouldn't say they did a bad job.

I think it's really cool to see car companies express themselves by making up a car solely for GT6. Like the guy at Nissan said, it was nice to see them make a car without any limitations, nothing stopping them from making up their idea of the fastest car they can build.

Plus we get cars that'll either exist only in GT6,or we can say we drove the prototypes lol. And let's keep in mind there are some make or break opportunities for car makers. For example we're getting what is quite possibly the last ever car designed by Bertone. Let that sink in for a second.

But yeah it's a lot of fun driving what the car makers have for their idea of the essence of what the emblem on their grilles or hoods stand for :D
