I'm actually looking at a '82 240 Turbo for a daily driver. Is there anything I should know before I buy it? Is there any aftermarket whatsoever for this car? Where can I find stats (0-60, etc.)?

0-60? Yes.

You can find some good suspension and engine tuning parts at IPD USA's website. Their sway bars and cams are quality stuff 👍

"Sports Car" is an objective term... and it really does only take meaning when the driver gets serious behind the wheel.

My humble Civic Sedan is secretly my screaming supercar.

The 240 was the last car I expected to see in GT4. I've always seen them as boxy, practical but rather heavy cars. A Turbo model may be more bearable on straights, but I bet it'll struggle on bends.

Looks as though PD have decided to cater for antique dealers as well.

At least the bricks have a coolness factor and some grunt.

They had to have 'grunt' because they were bricks!!! Their aerodynamic efficiency was jaw dropping....

ly bad.

Volvo never stopped making the 240 Turbo just renamed it to 240 GLT(Instead of 240 Turbo)and the swedes also put in V8 in their volvos(Not just the 240,but in 140,Amazon and the 544 PV)and drifting with the 240 is fun as hell.I grew up with Volvo(Well i am a Swede)but for me Sportcars stands for something else than Volvo(Even if it is the Turbo)sure you can tune it,but all in all it´s just a family car with a little omph!!nothing more!
But its gonna be funny as hell to buy the Volvo 240 in GT4(Thanks PD)

1985 was the last year of the turbo!!

Feel like an idiot. But i still don´t see it as a sportscar!

You could've just edited the above post and no-one would've have known bar those who saw it.

I think its great that the 240 is in!!
like when you say sweden you think of the 240 and meatballs and like some yeah you know those big breaste 🤬 ..anywho I really think its great because that car can seriously kick arse and it still does especially on rally cross, national rallys and such also the group A 240 was really cool that one to! :sly:

I just wish they put in the 850 T5R and the BTCC version!! that car is stupidly faaaaaaast!! :scared: :D :O

volvo rules....in sweden..otherwise Toyota!!!!!

Seeing as the Swedes have got their Volvo 240 how about PD doing something for us Brits?

I'd like to see a 'Morris Minor Travellor' complete with wooden frame, now that would be cool

Well in Britain (as I thought) the turbos went on for longer than 1985.

Keep in mind that the curb weight of a '85 245 Turbo is around 3100 lbs. That's with A/C, a third seat, and a roof rack, and that's still lighter than, say, a V-8 Mustang or Camaro. They are quite nimble, thankyewverymuch. The racing versions were under 2500 lbs! And as fast as my Turbo is on the interstate, it really shines on twisty backroads.

If anybody wants to see for themselves, it will be for sale shortly...

AFAIK the 240 GLT does not have a Turbo. Atleast it didn't in Sweden (my family owned a 1982 245 GLT). It's the "sequel" to the GT model which was a model with a slightly bigger engine then the others. Maybe it had different engines in other countrys, this is just what I know :)

Pretty certain atleast some GLTs have turbos as I've always thought that was the case. I know it all changed with the 850 GLTs where the T I believe stands for 'Twenty Valve' (my bros got one & I know that doesn't have a turbo!) opposed to 'Turbo' as I thought was case with the older models. Still if not all GLTs have turbos, that opens up another choice for my next car purchase ;) Pity the old Turbo models don't run on unleaded as standard & LRP sucks for turbos as I remember.

Unfortuately the 240 my family had was a DL & not a GLT so I can't confirm whether GLTs have turbos in Britain (Can't seem to find information on it either).

I think that GL stands for Grand Luxe or something and the T stands for Tourer or Touring but I'm not sure.
The GT which only came as 2-door was sold as the sportier version and that model later changed as said to the GLT which is Grand Luxe Tourer/Touring maybe? This needs clarification I think :). I'm a little irritated by this myself because I think of me as a very knowledgeable person regarding Volvos (family has owned Volvos all my life and I'm 18 and I have always been a Volvo fanatic sort of).

Yeah I'd regard myself as a bit of a Volvo fanatic, atleast my friends would , it was also one of my first words I had as a baby :scared: Since I guess I can only really remember the '82 240 as earliest car (Which my dad wrote off after hitting/obliterating a Ford Sierra, even though it only needed a new bonnet/headlamp/grill trim), although I do have vague memories of a Citroen CX before that ;) And have always thought the GLTs were the Turbo models, hence when I saw this thread I thought 'eh? they produced turbos after 1985' :)

Much like I thought the T-5R was AWD like the R, but turned out to be FWD. Pity because I think T-5R is a cooler name :sly:

I'd love a 740 turbo with all the catalogue extras & factory bodykit, which ran on unleaded. But I think thats abit much to ask these days ;)

mmhh...
And ... that picture ... what about that strange red car ... under the Volvo ?
I can't understand what is ... can someone post the screenshot without the arrows?

Hello i´m from sweden and i work for volvo..

About that 240GLT Would be a turbo is wrong. Grand Lux Touring Is what GLT Means.. But how ever my friend has a GLT With An Turbo Engine And 3" Exaust, Open Air and a bit more things, It´s going to be a fun car i guess, But the other project he is working with will be even nicer! 16V, Every thing in the engine is tuned, DTA Fast Computer, Garret GT40 turbo (Large) We hope to reach around 500-600hp in the engine, the engine will live in a volvo 740.

Sorry for my bad english!

:)

PS! Any other thoughts about volvo cars you can ask me.
