Now 'partially available' on the site.

Well... It's a start! Hopefully the events this evening will be on time!

Touch wood no problems for me ...

Mine was down...just came up again a few minutes ago:crazy:

I'm making this post from PS3 internet browser. Good luck everyone! The online friends list shows 10 friends online. Try again please guys!

The car selection should be finished by the first normal season race (28 days away.)

I'm on!

At 9:30 are we going straight into a race or waiting for people etc?

Internet's definitely back up! Gogo!

Practice/qualifying is 9:30 UK time, race 1 @ 10:10, Race 2 @ 10:30, Race 3 @ 10:50, Round over @ 11:00

Okay. Is it cool if I maybe just join for race 1? Some mates want to play other stuff, but I still want to take part with you guys.

Same here, though my reason would be the desperate need to sleep. I'll stay for race 1, if possible though.

I'll be a bit late, Portugal v Germany's heating up

2 minutes after the initial post, Germany score! Love it! Auf Wiedersehen Portugal!

Eh, actually, on second thought, I'll be out of the race. I'm stupid, but not insane. Enjoy your race guys, and Johnny, whatever you use in the end, bring a podium finish back for the tuning forum!

I'm via PS3 online but can't log to PSN ??
Well I try but me think I can't race

Where will the room be hosted?

A little carnage and a few blind speeders from behind but some really cool racing tonight. Had an amazing battle with Polarbear, a shame he d/c'd at the end.

Only brought the Z4 today and there is a long way to go with it's setup, but it was great on track today! Looking forward to next week to see how far I can push up the grid.

And can we please stop people jumping the start? There's no excuse to be going 30 mp/h faster than everyone else as P1 crosses the line... (Diddy taking first from 5th+ on the first straight)

What will next week's track be?

EDIT:
It's Tsukuba, thanks.

I liked the racing today. Lot of over-aggressive driving however. We need a dive-bomb rule. I am glad this is just the pre-season. I enjoyed having a full grid. Since I am a steward, you can PM me for complaints/replay reviews. I will consult other stewards before I make a decision. Thanks to MrMelancholy for hosting and bring on the next round.:sly:

We need a general "learn to use the brains you were born with" rule. The races won't be won in the first two turns, so why are people going so gung ho so early on. You affect so many people's races this way.

i explained that in race 2 i started accelerating at the yellow line, as everyone was changing speed and i was 8th on the grid, in karting in real life the european champs always start accelerating at the yellow line so out of habbit thats were i accelerated, it wasn't till after the race i found out that on gt5 we dont start till the actuall line, which is different to anything ive experienced in real life, sorry but at least i learnt in pre season not the first round

If we adopt GTPlanet Rules of Racing, everything that happened today is covered under the rules, including the divebombing. Most major series use the GTPlanet Rules because they are well written and easy to understand and provide for good, clean, close racing. Without them it's generally chaos.

I'll throw this out there for what it's worth. The best rolling start procedure I've ever participated in went as follows:

Pick a spot with a long enough straight about halfway around the track. At GVE that would be roughly in the tunnel. All the cars line up single file in grid order and park.

Once lined up the Race Director tells the pole sitter to proceed, and everyone proceeds in single file at about 100 km/h.

At a predetermined point the polesitter gets a green flag to get up to race speed and everyone behind him does the same. At GVE it might be the exit of the last corner because it's such a short track. Normally it would be 2 or 3 corners before the SF line.

The key is, there is no passing until the SF line. So by the time you hit the SF line everyone is up to race speed and single file before the first turn. No one can jump the start because you can't pass before the SF line anyway and it avoids the huge traffic in the first turn that usually results in chaos.

I can tell you it works like a charm and avoid all the pitfalls of the side by side start, jumping the start etc. Spreads the field out a bit which helps with contact.

^Sounds better.^

In MX-5's we ran ~70mph most of lap behind lead car, then slow to 50 / 30 towards end.

All cars close up and are bumper to bumper (positions sorted at start of lap off the grid)

As the lead car hits the apex of the last corner, he full throttles and is at full race pace till the chequered flag. All other cars go flat out as they pass the apex, holding to the bumper of the car in front.

The final cars being full pace as they come into the last turn.

No overtaking till the line and it all works perfectly!

This or Johnny's method would be great.

Sounds pretty similar. I just don't like the side by side start because it keeps the field too close and contact is inevitable, usually resulting in a ruined race or two.

Yeah, single file is just simpler and safer in terms of T1 survival.

Im a fan of no swerving (warming up the tires) also. To many things can go wrong there. Just stick with the single file, do the pace lap and start the race. Amazes me how much trouble we (gtp leagues in general) have on just the pace lap alone.

I say anything works as long as we don't have people going 50 mph faster that the rest of the field at the green flag.

My point of view on the situation...

The leaders were speeding up, which shouldn't be happening. Maybe we should put a starting "line" like in NASCAR, so we'd have a designated land mark or sign where the leaders would be allowed to start.

And for those in the back that were a solid 10 car lengths back...

WHY DIDN'T YOU SPEED UP?! It's not like EVERYONE was going faster or anything.......... I mean seriously when everyone goes fast, maybe you should speed up too... but that's just my opinion.

Damu, the dropping back and gunning it early wasn't cool though... just stick with the pack next time :)

He won. :)

I agree with cnd01 about the divebombing rule. I'm implementing a rule about passing from behind/passing from beside.

You must be beside of in front of the car you're passing, with your front tires in front of their rear tires. YOU MUST. Failure to abide by this rule, may and most likely WILL result in a full disqualification from the race.

In my karting career, I learned the hard way from that. I got bumped, and shunted in front of the guy... Then, we crashed. There's no way to avoid a crash, if you're not beside the guy you're passing.

About the start, the double file is good for good drivers. I've never had a crash in turn one with two drivers. I had one crash in turn one of lap one, in the ALMS, because I didn't expect the draft on the lap one.

But, I think that the ideas about no passing before the line (or even before turn one) should be implemented. We'll try to stick to hairpins for the first corners, because they don't seem to cause as many crashes, but, at Circuito de Madrid Reverse, this rule will be huge. The start will happen in a different place.

As for the other conduct, everyone's being messaged specifically.

+1 about the "Give the line and wait 'til the next corner."

I definitely agree with your rule there; everyone should wait 'til the next corner. I do, every time, because it's so important to get a run.
