Do I have to add a "no mind games rule?" That's not your deal. We're here to drive.

Lol ... no mind games MrM ...
uummmm ... Well I hope not ... đź’ˇ

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::crazy:

bahaha what time is it where u guys are at?

Well its 9:21 am here by me ... I'm guessing about 3:21 am by MrM ...

Mrm, i cant seem to find any race start times, dates or amount of laps??? kudos on the things i can find tho...

its 5pm here, justtrying to work out the time difference,

Races should start at 16:30 EST. 22:30 my time. Should be about 3:30 am your time. This Saturday is the opening round of the official season ... Race distance is a good question though ... MrM?

2030 GMT on Saturday's. I'm going to have a guess that this race may be 10-12 laps long, as Tsukuba (1 minute laps) was 15 laps long.

is there a tire limit or is it open?

21:30 GMT-0 mate. By all means you should show up an hour early if you want but...

GMT-5 is five hours behind. 4:30 PM here is 9:30 PM there. ;)

Also, tire life and race length (minutes) are the deciding factors in race length (by laps).

Races 1 & 2 are two-compound races. Softs/mediums.
Race 3 is a sprint. Softs only. Pits closed.

ok so the first two races pits are mandatory?

Uhm, it's opened 2130 for me. I'm in BST which is GMT +1. Summer time = extra hour. Hence, 2030 GMT is the lobby opening time.

Yup ... One stint on RM's and the other stint on RS. Dependent on which compound you run first ...

The starting tire compound is always a Driver/Team decision. There's some serious strategy to be had there. Do you risk running your fast lap times on softs while in traffic, and gain track position through passes? Or, do you start on mediums, and pass the field as they pit for mediums, and try to get in open air to run fast lap times and "leap frog" the field with pit strategy?

It's up to the drivers and the teams to find out.

I used both strategies to good effect before, so both can work.

I used both strategies to good effect before, so both can work.

And both can backfire, like it did for me, when I was on mediums while Sakery was on softs, and Sakery was doing everything he could to pass me, and I actually wanted to let him past. I saw other cars gaining from farther away. I wanted fourth. In the end, Sakery finally got a good run and passed me, and I got fourth.

BTW, that was Race 2 of 0.5 at Suzuka.

Then there's... never mind, never mind. Hey johnny :sly:

Where's the video for race 2 @Suzuka? I want to see how that played out.

ah cool this makes things interesting, would like to know how long races go for like in amout of laps tho.....

NO BLOODY MIND GAMES DAMU! DAMU! DAMU DAMU!

Asides from PSN tag jokes.... What?

Also, I'll add the rule. No intentional use of the walls is permitted in any circumstances to gain any amount of time. Contact with the walls should only be made in the case of an unexpected loss of control (spin, bumped, crash, missed braking point.) Anyone who is caught using the walls to gain time will be penalized. Also, repeat offenders could be removed from the series.

We want to keep this fun, equal, and somewhat realistic. With the interviews and reports on the threads, and the YouTube page, I think it's coming out pretty well. :sly:

One last announcement: I'll be conducting "random" interviews throughout the week, with Team Owners and Team Drivers. Most questions will speak directly to the direction in which the competition is going, or how the cars are being tuned. Examples:

  • You did quite well at Suzuka. Does this mean you're feeling confident with the car?
  • Your spin in the hairpin seemed to be caused by a slip in the Limited Slip Differential gearing. Are you experiencing understeer?
  • How well, in your opinion, is your team prepared? Do you feel like you have a shot at the Team Championship? Driver's Championship?
  • What about the Manufacturer? Do you feel that - is fully supporting you? Could [your manufacturer] be more helpful?
  • Do you feel comfortable in your car? Or, would you prefer a different drivetrain? Is the body roll and chassis ridgity on par with expectations?
  • Which position do you think will be your highest finish for a Race in the season?

The race at Madrid will likely be 10 laps, as predicted by Damu. Unfortunately, I haven't done testing. I like to run 180% of soft tire life, when possible. This setup generally lasts about 17 or 18 minutes. In those 17/18 minutes, the softs would wear out twice, completely, meaning anyone who double stints on softs might have to pit twice in one race. However, it's possible to finish the race with one stint on both compounds.

i like where this series is going, ur doing a mighty fine job Mrm, what about laps for the sprint race?

Lol ... enough with the mind games people ...
That's Dave and my job ... :sly:

Are we going to be running with heavy damage in the official season so people can be less kamikaze? ... Would make everybody think twice before pulling off an insane move ...

If you're not careful I may do a Montoya ;)

And walk out? No! We couldn't LIVE without our Irish comedy!

Also, the general rule is 5+1 laps for Sprint races, except very short or very long tracks. In this case, we'll be following the tried-and-true 5+1 laps shootout battle at Madrid. However, at Cape Ring Inside, or Autumn Ring Mini (not on the schedule) we would have to run more laps.

As for the heavy damage, it's a little too soon. Too many people are still just getting to know each other. Race 3 didn't go very well. Johnny had a slip into the grass, and skidded on-track. Everyone (three other drivers) tried to go four wide into the Casio triangle. Well, Sakery got the short stick, ended up off-track, trying to leave Johnny room, and when he hit the brakes, the left wheels got more grip than the right wheels, and his car shot across the track and into damu. In that case, all four drivers would've received some damage. It's still a bit too soon.

I'm keeping that as an option for Season 2 though.

i yet to see a jet dryer in gt5 so i dont think a "montoya" is going to happen lol

This Montoya guy...

"My name is Innigo Montoya.." Wait, wrong Montoya. Ummmm, J.P. Montoya's had such a colourful and vibrant racing past, I'm not even sure which incident Damu's referring to.

Damu could be referring to J.P. walking into the cameraman... or the Australian guys teasing him about his name, and J.P. walking out... or the jet dryer incident... (BTW, the GT5 jet dryer is the X2011.)

Also, I meant to thank you earlier, Dave, but forgot, amongst all of this "Me llamo Innigo Montoya. Mataste a mi padre..."

Thanks for the positive feedback about the series.

Well I'm looking forward to running this series with you guys ... Race 3 gave me a taste of whats to come ...

Of course I am talking about the F1's one Juan.

The Aussie's hehehe

You... leading... That's a taste of what's to come, if you keep up the improvement. I'd say you're already twice as fast as you were at first. Try going back to Grand Valley East Reverse, and compare your qualifying laps then, to your qualifying pace laps now. I love seeing the difference, when people gradually learn how to drop seconds off of their lap times.

In my Autocross, my first clean run was a 74 second run. Then, over the course of 10 minutes in the car, I dropped a full 10 seconds! It's incredible! The feeling, when I saw 63 come up... was enough that I actually said "🤬 YEAH!" and waved my arms about like a baboon. Enough so, in fact, that I took my hands off the wheel. (I NEVER TAKE MY HANDS OFF OF THE WHEEL, except to celebrate.)

As for you, damu, those funny Aussies. Dave should know. :)
