Well my car just feels ... ... it feels stable but it just loses grip mid-corner ... the more I push my car the more I land up in the grass embankments ...
Anyone willing to start teaching me about the intricacies of tuning GT5 cars?

Just 20 more posts until we hit 2000 peeps ...

1:18s are looking good here. Can probably get a little faster. Consistency is key especially around turn 6-7.

yeah nailing that i find easy the problem is finding the optimum point to accelerate out into the double left, too early and im airbourne or in the wall to late and i lose a second to the back stretch

Some testing with Polar and Mel last night produced 1:18.2's and around 8-9 laps on RS tires.

Deep Forest is not a track for pushing the car hard. It's pretty slippery off the racing line and a tendency to get on the throttle too early often results in contact with the wall or onto the grass. First make sure you aren't overdriving the car. Drive within the car's limits and see what you can do and then work on the tune. Slower is often faster.

I'm sticking to the racing line as much as possible, but the car decides to grip mid-corner and shoots me in the opposite direction ... She's suffering from hardcore understeer and everything we try and change on the setup of the car, it goes all awry ... I don't think the Scoob's like the Forest very much ... :(

Do you mean it understeers and then decides to grip mid-corner?

MAFIA MOTORSPORTS
Round 1 Recap/Round 2

It was a sunny day in Madrid, Spain, when the ITCC roared around through the city. MAFIA Motorsports drivers cnd01 and jamie-racing showed good speed in qualifying. Both cars qualified in the top 5 with cnd01 sitting outside row 1. Race 1 went very smooth for cnd. He capitalized on an incident involving johnnypenso and tdz. He ended up leading the race for a short time. After the pit stop, cnd01 and jp battled for the remainder of the race. Jamie, on the other hand, had a few issues, but still managed a top 8. Race 2 rolled around and that meant cnd would start next to last. He used pit strategy to work his way up rather than passing cars on track. Another podium finish. After a controversial race 3 crash, cnd would have to switch to a backup car and run the second race 3. He would work his way up and finish 5th. Jamie would go on to take second place in the second race 3 giving him his first podium of the regular season for MAFIA Motorsports.

"The car handled great all day long. First, thank God for allowing me to do this. I also would like to thank Mr. Soprano and Mr. Capone for giving me this opportunity. Jp and I had a great battle in race one. This only boosts my respect for him and East Coast Motorsports. Bring on Deep Forest!" quoted cnd01 after the races.

ROUND 2: DEEP FOREST

MAFIA Motorsports has gotten their first taste of Deep Forest's slippery asphault yesterday. The team is trying to balance the car's oversteer and understeer.

"The track is a lot of fun. It is really bumpy which always makes it a handful to hold on to. We had to revert back to some previous notes for the setup" explains cnd01. The team is coming in to Deep Forest 2nd in driver points and leading the Team points.

P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!!

I reverted back to the stock tuning setup this weekend, because I was having the same problem. Use a second setting sheet in the tuning menu. Keep the tune you had, because we're going back to another city course after this weekend, and try to ensure that you make small incremental changes to the tuning setup.

The multiple setup sheets is one thing PD knocked out of the park. Now I can go off of three basic setups. It makes life a lot easier.

The best thing, though, is to use all three. Nizmo, try finding three setups that work on completely different tracks, and compare. At Deep Forest, you might find that a softer setup will cut time from your laps, because the tires will be in contact with the road for a longer period of time, despite the bumps. However, at Tsukuba, and other smooth, not-bumpy tracks, stiff suspension setups will allow the car to turn sharper.

That's right. I have 3 preset tunes for the Focus. I make a few runs with each. The one that is the fastest is what I start tuning off of.

Ran in the high 1:17.9's a couple times when we had our practice session. If I really nailed the lap I think a mid 1:17 like 1:17.6 would be possible because I was 2 tenths up on my best through the 1st sector but gave it away with a bad turn 6. I have a lot of experience around here. One of my favorite tracks in GT.

That's definitely the car:sly:

Well... I just did a 1:18.053... With about 3/4ths of the car on the concrete. Sooo, qualy pace should be about 1:17.8... Anything more than that... WOW!

freshseth83
We'll see soon.

I take your going a bit quicker?

And I just got iMovie on my phone.. And I recorded the race we had last night. I'm putting it together a little video for it! It's actually quite fun! Question though, can I use a song from my phone? Or will I need to change it because of copyright issues? I'm sure you all don't want to listen to some lame music playing over and over! I found this cool intro graphic that will show where the location is... And since we decided deep forest is in Russia... The little dot is on Russia! It's quite cool! I'll probably commentate it tomorrow, once everyone's gone xD you don't want to hear me get yelled at! Lol!

I have broken the 1.18 second barrier with 2 tires on the concrete. I think 1.16.5 will be the pole time.

First we were talking 1:20's then 1:18's ... now we talking 1:16:5's ... where the hell am I gonna pull that out of ... my 🤬??? .... :banghead:

Single lap times don't mean much in longer races with tire wear. It's how long you can make your tires last and how fast you're going as they wear down that matters the most.

BTW Norm and I were able to get into a lobby tonight. We had no connection issues or lag issues. Norm has made some changes to his set up and they appear to be working so hopefully we'll see him out on Saturday!!

Perfect! Thank you to you and Norm for working that out.

This weekend, we will be using visible damage turned off. A tiny bump isn't erased in the replays, and then, when the bump is played forward again, multiple scratches appear.

But that's the problem JP ... I was getting much more tyre life at Madrid (10/11)
than in the Forest (5/6) ...

What is your opinion on the average lap time at race pace?

EDIT: I just want to send a big shout out to all the guys that's trying to help me with my setup ... JP, Sake, Mel, CND ... thanks guys  it's really appreciated ...

It just goes to show how this ITCC community is growing closer together at each race event ...

Deep Forest eats tires faster. Madrid is slower, meaning the tires don't skid as much. The Civic's tires only want to last 5 laps.

So what's your opinion on average lap times in race condition? It'll give me an idea on how far I'm off pace ...

The fastest guys are getting 1:17s in qualifying laps, but they haven't been in open air yet. I'm running 1:19s for like two laps, then 1:20s.

I know of some who posted a 1:17:7 in yesterdays testing :sly: ... but it was a one off ...

Seth. Just once, he ran a 1:17, right while I was about to run 1:18.0 in the Evo VIII MR. He stole my thunder. :sly:
