Some guys are running faster than we think hey ... :sly:

wow these lap times are awesome, are these with or without concrete?

But that's the problem JP ... I was getting much more tyre life at Madrid (10/11)
than in the Forest (5/6) ...

What is your opinion on the average lap time at race pace?

EDIT: I just want to send a big shout out to all the guys that's trying to help me with my setup ... JP, Sake, Mel, CND ... thanks guys  it's really appreciated ...

It just goes to show how this ITCC community is growing closer together at each race event ...

No problem Niz glad to help. Reminds me though, I owe you a PM. Race pace depends on whether there's pressure or not. From my own viewpoint I always slow my pace to match second place when the gap is more than a couple of seconds to save my tires and to avoid mistakes made from going all out. I think if someone can average about 1:20 per flying, racing lap that'll take the first two races.

Deep Forest eats tires faster. Madrid is slower, meaning the tires don't skid as much. The Civic's tires only want to last 5 laps.

FF drivers really have to learn to control their pace to save the tires. I've done a bit of FF testing here and was able to get 8-9laps on RS tires at a very fast pace. In all drivetrain formats, every corner you push a car beyond it's limits, costs you 2 or 3 corners of tire wear and the effect is worst in the FF format. Every time you miss an apex, drift off into the marbles a bit and crank the wheel/stick over to compensate, you double the tire wear. Every time you go in too deep into a corner and the front end pushes you double the tire wear. Every time you let the back end get a bit wild on entry or exit you double the tire wear.

Pushing the cars too hard is the biggest mistake most guys make when it comes to tire wear. Slower really is faster in this case. I watch replays sometimes of guys throughout the field and I see them running laps as if they are in a TT, pushing their car throughout the race, rather than running their own race, sticking to their own pace and their own rythmn. It's fun to dice with other cars and all and if that's your ultimate goal, just to have some good racing with another car, then that's cool. But if your goal is to move up the standings or place well, and race when the opportunity arises, then you have to learn to conserve the tires, the best that your car will allow.

Time to go home and get testing ... :dopey:

My first lap is high 1.17s. After that two laps in the 1.18 second bracket and the rest are 1.19s or 1.20s. On mediums I can get mid 1.19s for about 3 laps.

1:18.448 was my test result yesterday.
I´m pleased because I don´t have a Race and Q-pace. My Q-pace is my actual Race-speed
=> I´m ok with it and if someone has a better pace he deserves it 👍

With 1120kg for the 86GT I get bigger tire-wear. At Suzuka I ran 1200kg and although your lighter the Tires run-out faster.
👍 for the Spec setting ;)

BTW: Are there two different hp figures ??
I changed my language of the PS3 from German to English (UK) and know I have bhp but 260bhp ~ 193kw
My 86GT had that power figure but I had to detune it to about 191kw me think (not much but hey 2 kw difference is quite much in this tight series).

Also if I search for the calculator via google I get them results:
a) says 260bhp = 191kw (rounded)
b) tells me 260bhp = 193 kw (rounded)

===> whats the correct one :D

its hard to say, 1hp is approx 2.2kw i think, so the game confuses its self by its own calculations

OK so 260=193 :D
bhp is different from hp so maybe GT5 uses hp and bhp is a bit higher ??

Anyway I´m prepared for Saturday and I will enjoy it :D

BTW my good or bad Turn is the second last one.

I'm not going for fastest laps. The 1:17.9 I did came on flying lap 3 (technically lap 4 including out lap). Brake checking and running side by side definitely slows you down. So unless someone you're racing against is crazy quick with great tire wear, you'll be doing 1:19's IMO.

I think high 1.18s to low 1.19s will be a solid pace. It may be a little quicker because we are running concrete.

Well I kept up with you guys on mediums with the Scion FR-S.

Deep Forest is more of a momentum track. To run 2 wide means to lose your momentum. Turn 1 is the only real passing zone, so if you are trying to pass someone and you run side by side you lose probably .5 seconds a turn at least.

Theres plenty of different lines to run. Passes can be made cleanly on plenty of turns. I think we'll see this if people don't purposely cut someone off.

I am generally the one getting cut off.

I agree with this. I made some interesting passes here in testing. People will be surprised. On the main straight, it's possible to pass entirely on the straight, with draft, but it's actually the exit of turns 6/7 that seem to be good passing zones in these cars.

And, I've reprimanded, warned, penalized and removed people for overly aggressive driving. Don't think that the ToS will be okay with an overly aggressive move. You may certainly run a good racing line, without incident, and hold your opponent off, but blocking (especially if contact is made) and spinning will result in penalties.

Speaking of which, I'll have those pictures later tonight. I'll try to show it's not me that's always making these 'divebombs'.

Testing in d1's lounge now

So now we are definitely moving into the low 17's? ...Eish I need more practice ... :indiff:

So whats the decision concerning Success Ballast and will it be implemented in the Forest?

I would suggest to implement a no passing rule at last turn.
I did plenty of open-lobby-shuffle races here and it was always (ok not always but 9 out of 10) a mess when someone wanted to pass here, espacially with the straight after.
I trust everybody here but I have pretty much always the bad luck on my side :D
==> and it´s just a suggestion

Good test earlier today. The concrete just adds to the already bumpy track. The car is a hassle to hang on to with the g27.

I've got a feeling that there are gonna be interesting surprises in the Russian Forest this weekend ...

Hmmm, I hope so.

I'll consider the few options for ballast that I have.

My problem with that is then the whole field carries ballast and the same people will keep winning ... Rather have the top 3 be penalized with a success ballast ... It will keep the field open and hopefully have different people winning ...

The people who win will get the most ballast. Everyone gets some, but the people who score the most points will get the most.

My other and more sophisticated idea is to add ballast after qualifying. For every tenth of a second you are above the average time is 2 kgs of ballast.

Of course, I am against ballast in this series. I already am overweight compared to most cars in the series.

I don't agree with the entire field getting a success ballast penalty ... My car is sitting at 1152kg already so it won't make sense to get more weight for finishing ninth ...

Why should the guy in last place get more weight added?

Edit: when do you suppose that cars will lose the added weight according to your suggestion? If the top 3 from the previous race event places outside the top 3 of the next event then all success ballast shall be removed, imo

Don't overthink this guys. Success ballast has been used successfully in series before and always applies just to the top finishers. Sometimes just 1st, sometimes 1st to 3rd, depends on the series. Adding ballast much deeper in the field than that or to everyone as has been suggested is making something simple, needlessly complicated and really unfair to the guys finishing lower down in the field. Stick to the top 3 and give the rest of the field the chance to catch up.

Anyone every heard of the K.I.S.S. principle?
