Wallriding?

Which red/white barrier are you talking about? Some red/white barriers are merely rumble strips placed on the track.

Wall-riding means the driver is literally driving while running the car's tires or the side of the car on the wall. In real-life it would destroy or damage a car (hence there's no advantage to it) but in a videogame it's considered cheating because in some cases it can give you an unfair advantage, assuming it makes the car faster than if the driver took proper racing lines with no wall-riding involved.

It's been so long since I've played GT1, I forget if the Ai truely wall-rides in any spots, or if they just accidentally bounce off a wall here and there.
