It's only purpose is to line up guns that are either A) mounted in the wings of a plane or B) guns of different caliber on a plane.

Having the distance set to "No" means the guns fire straight out and drop off at whatever rate they naturally do. Setting them at a specific distance means they converge at that distance.

Planes with guns in the nose aren't effected by this unless those guns are of different caliber... like the F2A Buffalo or P36 Hawk, for example. Guns also aren't effective beyond 800M unless you're really good at sniping. I personally keep mine set to 600M as it fits my play style better.

With my setting of 600M, that means if I fire at anything once I get within 600M (.6km), if I have the guns lined up on the target properly, I will hit the target with no trouble.
So setting it at "NO" makes it more realistic? I'll keep mine at 500 and will test it in a realistic battle today

Only if you want the shots to go straight ahead or you're using a plane with only nose mounted guns.

Historically, most pilots had their convergence set to around 200m at most.. some even down below 60m as most dogfights happened that close together.

That's a really short distance, can the game even allow 60m as a targeting distance? Might as well set mine to around 600m as well, for testing's sake.

No not really. No one during the war set the guns straight.

Most set it close. I set mine to 400m. Some set it closer.

Been playing the current simulator event. Had a good streak of not getting shot down going until these last two matches. :indiff: The Ju-87 is nice to fly in sim mode.

That is long. If I fired at that range it would be in a last attempt at someone in a faster plane running away from me.

Great for getting the First Strike trophy by shotting down ground units (i.e. Artillery ones) though. But yeah, terrible for close dogfights...

I tried realistic mode, was fine til I crashed trying to shoot down artillery, maps are much better though

Very shallow dives against ground targets. You want to be able to shoot them and pull up easily when you pass by. Even if it takes multiple passes, it's better than putting the plane into the Earth on your first attempt. Just remember that outside of arcade, the planes don't change direction instantaneously.

That's why my distance is set to 600m. Gives me enough time to put shots on target without crashing it for those times where I have to go after ground targets.

FW-190 A1 has served me well. It's been completed in terms of it's upgrades and it's now earned a well-deserved rest in my hangar for now. Now my German lineup consists of the 109 E-1, E-3 and F-1, and the Ju-87 D3.

Also had a moment where I shot down a Beaufighter with my SB 2M-105 while I was sitting on the runway waiting to be repaired/reloaded. In the two passes that guy made, he only managed to hit my radiator on the left engine just after I repaired. So, after I shot him down on that same pass, I took off and circled back to the runway to land so my repair was only 22 seconds instead of 2.5 minutes.

Almost got my hands on a Fw-190 A-5 took so long. but almost there :D, next is the Bf-109F-1

I should of went the spitfire/Typhoon Mk Ib route

I had one of the most satisfying experiences of taking out someone shooting me whilst I was on the ground a few days ago. I was in a KI49 IIb late and, well the Yak9 that attacked me forgot I had a 20mm rear cannon.

I've almost got the P-400 completed. It's not bad but it doesn't exactly fit my style. Also has a habit of overheating on maps that aren't covered in snow.

Got wins with US, Germany and Russia in the time i played. Russia took 2 battles to get a win. First battle was Korea and I went straight for the bridge with the SB 2M-105 as I figured that would be the best way to seal the victory if the battle went on for a while. Took out the bridge, and on return to hit the second bridge on the opposite side of that small island, I got shot down just before bomb release. Then the team proceeded to get shot down. Second battle went much better. Took out a bomb target and an enemy plane before I got shot down.. team got the win.

Almost had a victory with England, but my Mk.I Hurricane was left to fight against two He 111s and a Cr.42. 111s were taking out the ground targets, so I went for them, but those bombers just absorbed everything I shot at them.

This; I've fully upgraded the P400.
Quite fits my style. But bombers man :/ there like sponges. With 12.7, 7mm are like air soft guns toward bombers. -.-

Never really tried a bomber before... Only piloted the tutorial one and I've left it at that. Maybe I should give it a spin, who knows?

And because of that I've found bombers to be a lot of fun! More proficient with them as well over fighters.
The level 3-4 + bombers take out fighter planes like nothing. I died so many times from me engaging a bomber. And I get engaged back. Usually I'm able to get critical hit. But then there rear guns fully upgraded shreck me :(

Bombers have always been good for research/silver lions. High reward % and taking out ground targets/bomb targets are profitable. If the enemy is dumb enough to fly directly behind you matching your speed, you can just switch to gunner view and shoot it's engine/pilot for an easy kill as well.

I'm back over 700k SLs as well. I've actually saved money by focusing on planes I have in my lineup instead of buying planes as I unlock them and then paying for a crew conversion to add them to my current lineup.
