Was the moon landing mode a beta test for future GT modes?

What? How? Rally Raid makes great use of gravity so probably not. I'm not seeing any meaningful correlation since it's operating in conditions not present on Earth.

Rally Raid would be nice though.

I think he's referring to point to point racing with a rather wide "track" and rugged terrain. It's very loosely defined like in rally raid type racing.

You could replicate the Dakar in it's entirety but render it useless by having a beta based on physics with virtually no gravity.

Maybe "beta" was too stronger term, but yes the mode was predominantly a nod to the moon mission, obviously.

Umm.. did you forget Goodwood? I'd say that Point-to-point is making a comeback.

I really meant getting from the start line to the finish line over rough terrain without a set course, in which is rally raid esk. Goodwood has track boundaries in which you can be disqualified for "falling off" the track.

Off topic, I also am enjoying the Goodwood Festival of Speed events and would embrase a Goodwood Revival mode.

Agreed. That would be a fairly open world, would it not...? ;)

It wouldn't have to be a totally free roam open world just a very wide "track" would do the trick. The idea of any race is to get from A to B the fastest. Meandering all over the world getting lost may be possible in the Dakar rally but it isn't going to do much good in a racing sim environment. However, if you had several different terrains and/or large traversable obstacles such as sand dunes it would create multiple paths to take through the same "track."

I think this would be fun but probably somewhat difficult to incorporate into the current game system with all the different possible terrains and associated grip levels and traction issues etc.

side note: this would open up the possibility of those big badass offroad trucks they drive in the Dakar making their way into the game...sweet

Well said.

I thought the game already did this. Last time I checked rallying was rather more difficult than, say, GT racing because the cars have less grip on dirt.

The question would be whether PD could implement deformable terrain. MX vs. ATV did it with Reflex and Alive, and new games such as Spin Tires are improving on it, but then again those are otherwise relatively simple games with a handful of vehicles at most. PD would have to make it work for hundreds and hundreds of vehicles.

Yeah they do I suppose. The track surfaces seem to stay pretty consistent but there's the gravel traps, grass, gravel/dirt roads, snow, etc. So maybe it wouldn't be as hard to incorporate as I thought.

Well put about the deformable terrain, when I was typing I was thinking about going nose in and getting stuck in a dune or digging yourself into the mud by spinning your tires etc.

Yes there is the challenge of reduced grip, but it is on a set course in a special stage style.

Deformable terrain would be awesome long term. In the mean time, just open, rocky, hilly, rough terrain would be fun, especially with randomly generating terrain on every load.

we need some more likes...I guess people don't care about awesome offroad racing haha

At the end of the day, Kaz chooses which questions to answer. It's not a popularity contest. It would be nice for Kaz to recognise whether it's something people want though.
