Weak Vettes

I'm getting a real headache from people crying about the absence of the C6. We didn't get the C5 in GT2 and we lived, we'll live without the C6.

What people don't realize about those big-block muscle cars (probably because they've never driven them), is that they handle like pigs. All that weight in the nose gives them terrible weight balance. I can imagine that they went with the 350 because it made a better handling car.

this is a very ignorant statement..........the 2001+ Z06 Vette with 405hp, can hand a lot of sports cars their ass and not just in a straight line....

but yeah....too many Skylines and Evos

It's the poor man's supercar, and I'm proud of it.

What's wrong with being a Vette fanboy? Oh, and I want your car blkout.

The thing to remember is that if they make the non-Japanese cars too good it just might make a few of the Japanese cars look bad. And that is the one thing that is never allowed to happen, ever. Just look at some of the reactions from the Japanafanboys in this thread alone... then imagine that reaction on a much larger scale.

blkout, if that was my car, I'd throw a set of Falken Asenzis under it and thrash the bejeezus out of it at the local autocross every Sunday. Nice.

And redfury, that request for a sign is standard around here. We get far too many kids who are several years shy of having their licenses pretending that they or their father/brother/uncle/whatever owns some spectacular piece of automotive engineering. So the common response is to ask for a picture of the car with a sign saying "GTPlanet.net" on it. They're almost never furninshed, either... ;)

maybe they couldnt get their hands on better models, or perhaps the owners wouldnt allow them to drive them, so they didnt put them in the game because they didnt want to model it without driving it? and maybe chevy didnt let them drive/model the c6, maybe its chevrolets fault and not PD?

Anyone want to remind me what the light weight package of the L-88 was called? I remember that they only sold one, but that deserves to be in.

You must be talking about this, but the camaro was much more common.

Edit
Just to help people understand how much power 427ci vettes had, I thought I’d give a little info.
1966 L72 rated at 450, changed to 425 with no actual change to engines.
1967 L71 rated at 435, but was more powerful then the 1966 L72.
1967 L89 same as 1967 L71 but with aluminum heads.
1967 L88 rated at 430, but really had 550-600.
Though the cars changed styles, the engine options in 1968 and 1969 were very similar to 1967.

Well, I look at it like driving history. Perhaps these iterations of Corvettes were pretty good at Le Mans and Daytona (road course, of course). For those of you who played through "Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3," do you remember the Trans-Am in the game? It was one of the good old 70s Trans-Ams, but with about 90 or so horsepower. If this happened to you, are you p*ssed about it? As far as American muscle go in Gran Turismo 4, I still want to race those old 'Vettes. These are some of my favorite Corvettes. In GT2, who DIDN'T enjoy getting a lovely 1963 Sting Ray 'Vette? They are beautiful, and I don't know if they were Mustang-devouring muscle cars, but they have been seen more as the most unique muscle cars. In fact, some people think that Corvettes are more of sports cars than muscle cars. I believe the old Corvettes, while maybe not as powerful, may still make for some wonderful race cars. Just give one some tuning, and they'll be your weapon against the other pack of cars.

For American car afficionados, which do you think is the bigger American car disappointment in a video game:
A.) "weak" Corvettes in Gran Turismo 4
B.) 90-something horsepower Trans-Am (TXR3)
C.) neither

While 90hp is low, it might be closer then you think. In 1975 the base corvette engine had 165hp, and 99% of the time the corvette was GM’s fastest vehicle (GNX, and TTA are exceptions, and the syclone would be an exception if not for the ZR1).

ChristmasGTO
OMG a 90 Horsepower TA? Good god, seriously, I would be MUCH more upset about that.

But hence the name:
"Tokyo Extreme Racer"

Figures.
That was the 2.5 Iron Duke inline 4.

Anyway, I just thought I'd pop in again to simply mention that I'm not jealous of 'Vettes. For everyone else, whining AGAIN about the same issue for the 27th time, stop it. No wonder no one likes Americans. Can you blame them? We whine like little babies who had their Susie doll taken away.

Corvette rocks, it is a shame to see the selection in GT4. A '69 ZL-1 would haven been incredible.

Red Six
haha, yeah right, did daddy get that for you, prove it by standing in front of it with a sign that says gtp and take a pic, then post it, otherwise im calling bull-ish 👎

I can do that, but what's the point? I'm 30 years old, there is no reason why I can't afford this car. I can post a dozen more pictures of this same car, if you can find those same pics anywhere else on the net with someone else claiming its their car, I'll give you the keys to it.

AMV8
It's true what they say: Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.

I am in no way jealous of that car. :yuck:

I could care less what you think, if you knew how many compliments I receive daily on this car, you would realize that your opinion means very little. I'm not bragging, but I love the car, its an awesome machine and I don't think I've ever met anyone that didn't like it, especially when they see it in person. Chevrolet hit a homerun when they built this car, the Viper is the only competition this car has under $100,000.

The L88 did not have 550-600HP, it may have been closer to 500HP at best, but even then, it was rated in gross HP which is far from today's net HP rating. The 2002-2004 C5 Z06 is the quickest Corvette ever built to date, the 2006 C6 Z06 will be the new king of the hill later this year.

And for the record, the ZL1 was the most powerful old school engine ever produced, not the L88.

Oh well, they have the GOOD American sports car in the game: VIPER.

The C5 Z06 performs just as well as the Viper on a road course. The Viper is only slightly faster in the 1/4 mile. Next years C6 Z06 will blow the Viper away. 500HP, 3100lbs, 427ci engine, forged pistons, titanium rods and crank, dry sump oiling, all the goods.

I seriously doubt its Chevrolet's fault since Forza has had a C6 in their game for quite some time now. PD just didn't take the time to test one. I'm sure the C6 will make it into the next version of GT. By then, they can add the C6 Z06 too.

I'm really looking forward to that SRT-10 and Competition Coupe...

What really bothers me about this game was stated before. Dodge gets their SRT-10. Ford gets their '05 Mustang GT. Pontiac gets their GTO. Chevy gets a shotty/out-dated "2000" Z06 (*a non-existant car in the real world (the cirrcumstances are irrelevant in any case).

Fact is, when this game hits America it needs to appeal to Americans. A dulled down Z06 running in the 13's is far from appealing. Corvettes are renowned for having a hair-trigger accelerator, and balls-to-the-wall acceleration through 4th gear (as well as an aggressive bellow coming from the quads, and a mean drive that makes even a 3rd-grader into a professional NASCAR driver). Not only this, but Corvettes are actually also more fuel efficient than any other sportcar. It is the best bang for the buck, and when I buy that Z06! I want that BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK! Give me a real sportcar. I say give me a damn Z06.

And Drag Racing is an American sport, started with American Muscle Cars. I don't want no granny-love'in Cadillac V8! I want that brute and raw acceleration stream all the way into 9-seconds flat at the Las Vegas dragstrip. Thats what a majority of those muscle cars were primarily built to do. Lets have them do that then? Shall we PD?

I don't auto-X my Z06, but I know quite a few people that do, I'm a drag racer, but I still love the fact that this car will do anything I want it to do, and do it very well too.

If you and Redfury REALLY want me to take a picture of my car with me holding a sign in front of it, I can do it today. I think its rather silly, but its not like its much trouble. Not really sure what it proves though, I still have the keys in my pocket regardless of what anyone thinks.

It's an internet forum. You really dont have to prove anything. You know that, but I'm just saying that I wouldnt give them oogats in terms of proof.

And dont forget way better handling.

(But GOD the name and look of a Viper is "Unforgettable")

I agree, the Viper is a serious attention getter. One of my good friend's had a 1994 RT/10 about 6 years ago and we couldn't go anywhere in it without a crowd of people swarming around when we stopped and got out. I'll say this though, as pretty as the Viper is, its not a very comfortable car to drive, certainly not a daily driver. I couldn't drive it for more than 30-45 minutes or so without having to get out of it for a while. That's the best thing about the Z06, not only is it a great performer but its very comfortable too. :)

Just for the record, a Z06 will run low 12's, not low 13's, and some Z06 owners have run high 11's completely stock.

You know what... I think we deserve to be pissed off. Because they underminded the Vette in GT3 also. 13.2 seconds in the 400M? Pshh... It should've been at least 12.9 (and thats a bad run for the Vette). Fact is that we've been waiting for what seems like decades for this game to finally release, and when it comes down to it, PD tries to pull this crap on us. The Vette is a HUGE addition to GT4, because it is a HUGE representation of America in general. Ever see how many Vettes are out on the streets every day? They sell like hotcakes! The Z06 is supposed to one of our Nights in Shining Armor... But no... We have to settle for a POS "2000" Vette.

Yeah, I know that. I was actually pointing out the Vette that GT3/GT4 depics... It's sad and a very disgusting to the die-hard Vette Activist (such as myself).

It's not always about quarter mile times. I for one, dont care about drag racing. Not my style of racing.
