The obsession with GV does my head in, it's a terrible track for racing. Nice to just cruise around but racing is bleh.

MMX
GV has always been my favorite track. The revamp didn't change that. It has great flow, better than most of the real tracks in the game.

To me the reverse layout has a better flow
So, we're all in agreement then.
Grand Valley is terrible/great/better in reverse. I'm glad that's settled... ;)

This latest GT7 version of Grand Valley, pretty as it is, isn't as nice to race on as earlier versions. There are far too many awkwardly tight or tightening turns following quick sections to allow it to flow. Grand Valley South on the other hand drives more like the Grand Valley i remember from previous games. I don't think running it in reverse or not changes that.

I totally agree. It feels like just a bunch of random decreasing radius turns connected by various straights.

Sooo, anyone get a setup that'll make my GT-R handle less like a brick?

Agreed, it's just worse than the GT6 version in every way other than looks. Really wish they'd have just made a new unique track in the Highway 1 setting and given us the old layout instead. Used to be one of my favourite tracks until we got this new version.

@RACECAR

I usually run the diffs as open as possible on coast, lower the rear downforce until it's close to the front and run a bunch of rake.

As much as I like the GTR, three times in a row.
Meh, I never understood the GTR thing. Shed tonnes of power and grip, light years ahead of everyone in 1992 but they've never been fun to drive. We use the same AWD cars too often when fun cars like early AMG or early M or Alpine's just sit there looking lonely.

You say that but the mine's R34 says otherwise in spec 3

Hey, there could be One Makes at Tsukuba, Fuji Speedway and Willow Springs. ;)

The RX-8 is the only first-time drive. I'm having my doubts about the Celica. The GT-R is going to need some upgrades for sure.

Looks like a fun variety of races this week and now I'm all set to go.

Not the most interesting week but still had fun. FR Challenge has variable weather although it seems very unlikely to rain hard, different fields vary a bit on pace but 450ish PP should cover the fastest. WRC was extremely easy in a 560 PP Atenza, probably a lot of stock cars that can win this with how slow the AI are. Wasn't too keen on the one-make as 1 lap of the Nordschleife in the most boring conditions didn't seem worth it. Would've been a lot better if it rained, was at a better time of day, or if they did something interesting like give us traffic as if it was a track day. Hyper Car Parade does have interesting weather and a very variable overall race time for the Valkyrie which can mean you need a really fast car to win. Managed with a stock Nissan Concept VGT on SH but only just as the Valkyrie chased me to the line, if he gets past cars early on you will struggle to keep up in a lot of stock road cars. Gr.1 is at Grand Valley which I don't like so to make it more interesting I tried out the Nissan GT-R as it's the one Gr.1 car I hadn't driven. Didn't manage to win on RM with a pit stop on lap 5 because the AI didn't pit so I ran it again on RH without a pit stop and they did decide to pit for whatever reason. Gave me a pretty easy win, I'm sure there's much faster cars that you can win even with a stop. It's a slight shame it only really gets dark on the last lap but still nice to have the time of day change.

Cars for this week:

the hyper car and gr 1 race went well, had many struggles in the one make and dirt races and the fr race was okay. one part of the track jumps turned my car around.

It's every third week so I don't understand the complaint.

We've had event for early Mercedes and BMW (the DTM, which was a while ago). Those were on slicks with upgraded cars, which removes much of the "fun" those cars were known for.

Anyway, it's fun in a different kind of way. The "I can push this thing harder than I should thanks to all the tech" kind of way. You can't do this with an early BMW, either you lose it, or the platform can't handle all the power.

Now, when it comes to game balance... The GT-R and similar cars (Mitsubishi Evo, Subaru WRX) are broken and make the PP system in GT7 seem like a joke. For the same rating, you're looking at a car 2-3 seconds faster than a comparable RWD car like an M3.
