Firstly delete this if its inappropriate or been done to death.

GT5 what a game, i mean seriously its so much fun.

Ive been gaming since the 80's you know zx81, bbc , spectrum,
sega megadrive, nintendo, sega saturn, dreamcast, ps1,2 &3.

My friends and myself have always concentrated purely on
racing games and the multiplayer aspect of these.

From fastest laps (single player), to split screen, to two tv's and two consoles linked together by a cable and now to meeting regularly online.

We are all in our forties and it amazes us how brilliant it looks , the racing is so
much more accurate, the replays are delicious, the tuning elements
add such depth, its car gaming mana from heaven!

Then add to that the fact that people from the globe join in
races , some with skills that put into prospective how good
we think we are adds even more excitement and challenge.

Finally just hosting a room of enthusiasts of varying skill levels
and who are enjoying the room is satisfying and the icing
on the cake.

Just from this prospective Gt5 and most modern drivings
are damn good.

I'll keep off the triple expresso. ps if the post structure looks odd its my phone
playing up.

:-)

Lol, a guy who praises the game instead of bashing it for its somewhat minor shortcomings. Nice one ;)

It's a year since I got GT5, playing it on and off but I'm only just realising how good it really is.
I play offline mostly and the AI seems to have got a lot better.
Racing the Tokyo city track reverse atm, using the RM Corvette limited to 600pp, all aids off, not even ABS at 1. Cockpit view and AI on Pro and I have only finished 6th, so getting competetive races.
So many new bits to discover. I didn't even know that in replays, you can sit in any car with any view, like in the PC sims.
I'm starting to think PD know what they're doing:)

Sooo true. My younger cousin always say GT5 is crap because it:
1. didn't have any guns in it (seriously, durr fack?!!)
2. was too hard to drive any of the cars (the car I gave him was a VW beetle. With 22hp.)

Safe to say, I've given him a bit of hell for saying rubbish like that and I've now disowned him on all matters to do with gaming.

Oh so true.
Way back on my C64 playing Pitstop II and Slicks (great games at the time) through to doing everything i could to get a PSX and GT.
I bought my PS3 just for GT5 and was a little dissapointed with it straight out of the box, but with the regular updates and now Spec 2 installed GT5 is getting closer to perfection.
PD are doing an amazing job with these games and they are only going to get better in the future.

16bit Mega Drive Road Rash springs to mind, and the later 32bit Skidmarks from Codemasters......ah, the memories.

Well said mate people expect quite a lot , theyd probably moan if they give you a free zonda with the game!!!!!!!!!! WHY WASNT IT A ZONDA R THEYD SAY !! lol its awesome but with flaws but still brilliant roll on gt6 on ps4 !

Remember Namco Pole Position? Haha, them were't' days. :p Nice to see a pro-GT thread for a change, good call.

Time to peddle the GTPlanet WRS again I'm afraid:

Oh and Turbomatiz, nice Husky. Here's my bear:

Warning: long maybe boring post

I may be young compared to you guys (17) but I must whole heartedly agree with everything said so far... The first game I truly got into was GT3, I remember pestering my mum to borrow it for me and reading the owners manual on the 40km drive home.

Above all else i remember getting to the back and bieng amazed by all the manufacturer logos on the back of the cover. I was so excited when I got home and fired up the PS2, watched the awesome intro for the first time and bought my first ever car. A Chrysler PT cruiser, and racing in my first race at the super speedway. I still remember how excited I got when I first saw the random car prize spinner and saw my first ever reward... An '00 SS Camaro

After the week of renting was over, I basically forced my parents to buy GT3 for me. While other games have distracted me over the years (NFS HP 2, GTA 3, GTA San Andreas, NFS Pro Street, GTA4...) nothing ever came close to the excitement I felt as a 8/9 year old seeing the amazing graphics of GT3 for the first time...

Until about a year ago, when I learnt that GT5's release date had been confirmed for November 2010. Which was easily dwarfed by the day it first got into my PS3 and i started my GT5 career.

I am proud to say that while there is many games I like there is just one which I have stayed with since the start...

I love the GT series too, I started from GT 1 in ps1, now I'm around 28, before that I don't know about skyline, rx-7 etc, I've always love cars but just after I play GT I learn about these fabulous japanese cars, before that I only thought that for fast cars it had to be ferrari, lambo and porsches. Back then when I played GT1 I was really noob about racing, I didn't play very well, couldn't do the licenses, in the end I used gameshark for everything, only in GT3 I started learning to play like how it supposed to be played.
GT4 was great too, and now in GT5, I must say that I bought PS3 for GT5, it's the game that I've been waiting for so long and after I got the game I played for 1-2 mths then I started playing other game, but whenever I'm bored of other game I would always go back to GT5 and then around July I started playing again and bought a steering wheel few weeks ago and now am loving it more with wheel. Like everything else GT5 has flaws but I just love this game.

Cheers

Well isn't this the diamond in the rough. I'm glad to to be reading this thread. It's great to see there are others who understand how good we, the GT community have it.
Gran Turismo the series and GT5 in particular has come forward in leaps and bounds and has raised the bar for the games to follow.
Like I've stated many times, I've been playing consistently since release and the enjoyment is very much still alive. There's always something new to try and I haven't even started racing online that much yet.
There just aren't enough hours in the day sometimes.

EDIT. We've come a long way from the days of Lotus Challenge on my Megadrive.

Top Gear SNES OH MY GOD! I wish I could still play it, I might actually try getting again very soon.

MrDinosaw94, my story is a bit like yours, without the boring first part. lol

Everything from, "While other games have distracted me over the years...", to the end, I have to say that's how it's been for me. This thread sums up in many ways, not all, how I've gone on only loving GT5 for its flaws and beauty. That's what true love is, isn't it? I mean, you gotta love the flaws, they're there as a reminder that life isn't perfect and you gotta get back to it as soon as this race is over. NEEEEE-VERRRR!!!!

My excuse for not enough hours online, I'm anti-social. Hey what'ya you know!! Me? noooo. yessss. nooooo. ok yes.

No it's not. Yes, we were satisfied with games like that back in those times because that was the norm, that is what we expected from gaming. Just like from computing we expected a 1MB disc drive, 64kb of RAM etc etc. But nowadays we expect 1TB disc drives, 8GB of RAM. My point being expectations increase as technology moves on so just because the games are obviously leaps and bounds better than those of 20+ years ago doesn't mean everything is rosy with them and we should just accept them, no matter the condition, just because they are much better.

I used to look forward to playing 'Outrun' on my Amstrad. And I still can remember the feeling of excitement bringing it home from WHSmith! I've done all the GT series, never been amazing at it but loved it all the same.
Your post rings true with all us 30 pluses and a few under it seems. What I'm amazed at is how every single car is a completely different experience and just makes going to the practice tracks as exciting as anything else....'will this NSX beat my M5's lap time' ...kind of thing.

Kudos to a great game, I've not been to bed before midnight in ages! So my wife tells me!

Keep up the praise!

"It's not about how fast you get from A to B; its about how fun it is."

I love that quote. I found it no more than 30 minutes ago. It rings true to me, too.

Among of bunch of "more this need that why not this we dont want that" threads... This is like drinking a cold soda in the desert ...

Nice, and I'm totally agree..

Yes complaining youthful kids, back in my day, this is what I had, and you know what! I didn't complain Then!

You have no idea how spoiled we all are today. GT5 PS3, best driving game in existence, period.

I cannot wait to play Kaz' next of kin's game in 25 years, fate permitting.

Oh wow. lol That's ADORABLE!!!! hahahaha jk

"I cannot wait to play Kaz' next of kin's game in 25 years."

That's a really good point.
We can only hope they're like Kaz and have a passion for cars like he does. AND video games. Kaz started really young, middle school young (13 or 14 years old) when he started programming video games.

Wow, Colecovision and Turbo. Used to have exactly the same setup as a kid. 👍👍

Dumb and Dumber ^^^ Jim Carrey

Thanks. Hey, I guess they're right. Senior citizens, although slow and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose. I'll be right back. Don't you go dying on me!

Gotta love it.

I am so used to sarcastic immature PD hate on this forum when I saw the title of this thread I was expecting the usual nonsense, I just want to say how nice it is to hear the enjoyment GT5 has given to a fellow racer when it is played the way it was intended. It's also great to hear all those memories of past Racing games. I'm 36 been a gamer all my life.
Few games that really stick out for me are :-

Test Drive II on the Commodore Amiga (Not the re-incarnation of today)
Nigel Mansells F1 (Super Nintendo)
Lotus Challenge (Atari ST)
Stunt Car Racer (Amiga)
Vroom (Brilliant racing game) Amiga
Indy 500 (Amiga)
Super Monaco GP (Commodore 64)
Pit Stop 2 (Commodore 64)
Buggy Boy (Atari ST)
V Rally (PS1) I loved That Game !

Nice read and well said 👍

I remember having friends lug their bulky PC Tower cases over for some serial-port gaming back when laptops cost a fortune to own. Good times indeed !

I agree : "GT5 ! What a Game !"

The GT series have been the only games where I've played for more than 6 months. Now, with a proper G27 wheel, it's a whole new experience, and I'm enjoying it a lot :D

The after-release support has been excellent, and hopefully, the car list will be expanded to include more of the newer supercars :)

best game for me too, I remember discovering the excellent handling of the Subaru and Mitsubishi on the earlier GT series, lot of fun and now looking better than ever:)
