Listening to Think Twice by J Dilla. The song is an interpolation of the Donald Byrd song Think Twice. One of my most respected artists is J Dilla, he had such a large impact on the music industry (hip hop in particular) it’s interesting how little people know about him. Rest in peace J Dilla.

Unfortunately I couldn't join in with yesterday's theme posts as Mothering Sunday in the UK was a couple of months back. If not, Carl Carlton's "Bad Mama Jamma" and Fountains Of Wayne's "Tracy's Mom" probably would both have made the cut.

After hearing this track on the eponymous Deodato album, I realised it was the piece I played for my Grade III violin exam I needed to get into the local youth orchestra. I had no idea what it was called or what I was doing and I was so nervous my bow hand was shaking up and down by a few inches. Fortunately, however, the lovely old lady examiner mistook my trembling for expressiveness and astonishingly awarded me a pass with distinction.

Years later, I decided to get the violin out of its dusty case for a nostalgic look-over but, tragically, I'd forgotten to destring it and the contracted catgut had tightened over the decades causing the neck to snap in two. Oh, well.

One of the greats besides Madlib and Nujabes!

I visited a few clients at work today and therefore spent most of my day driving on the Autobahn listening to a few of Jay-Z's old albums.

Speaking of which, our 19 year old apprentice called Eminem and 50 Cent old school rap today. Is this what getting old feels like? 😂

This was a hit single for Tamsin and is way better recorded than her last attempt twenty years previously with Davis and the BBC Symphony Orchestra for Warner.

If you like Madlib and J Dilla you should listen to this: it is the original Jaylib, which (as you can guess) is a collaboration between J Dilla and Madlib. This is the unreleased version, unlike the released version which has songs cut out and all the vocal samples missing.

Sofía Valdés - Oceans Away. I heard this very pleasant sounding Panamanian pop singer over the tannoy in Tesco this afternoon while picking up my monthly heart meds.

TANTRON x Nakamura Minami - Turbo Fire

I would've uploaded Nixxy Rain's "Salsa Stepper" or Fred V's haunting "Vortex" as well but nobody's uploaded them to YouTube yet.
