This reminds me of 40 years ago, driving my ‘68 Suburban with a 350 V8, Rochester Quadrajet carb, 4-speed manual (although I always started in second because first was a super-low rock-crawler gear), and Texas highway tall final drive for effortless 2500 rpm cruising at 70 mph, while listening to stacks of Maxell XL II 90 tapes full of obscure jangle, twee, and garage rock I found by reading every issue of Spin magazine.

I love the Nice Guys channel on YouTube. Just a wonderful mix of indie, lofi pop, surf rock, psych pop and similar styles. In the Covid lockdown during the summer of 2020, they released a compilation called Nice Guys Love You. Every summer since, they’ve released another NGLY compilation. There should be another out this summer, so I’m listening to the previous five in anticipation.
While the cover above has long been one of my absolute favorite tracks--the driving guitar hook makes the hairs on my arms stand up--the original is really great as well.
