Still on an Aretha kick.

Seems the general consensus on r/movies is that this authorised biopic is kinda generic and doesn't really touch on some aspects of the Queen Of Soul's life such as her civil rights activism. The National Geographic dramatisation seems to get better reviews so I'll probably give that a watch later.

My weekend Netflix viewing included All the Sharks. a reality contest about diving, finding and taking pics of sharks for points. No great white sightings so far, because everybody knows they are temperamental stars who refuse to work about 80% of the time.

After watching F1 I'm into the last season of Drive to Survive. I expect the next one to be extra-juicy with the fall of House Red Bull and the current driver's championship battle, and of course, the Hulk podium.

I also watched the first episode of Quarterback second season, and the two released episodes of Dan Da Dan second season.

I follow F1 very closely, so I didn't really see much point in watching last season of DTS. Most seasons I have watched have been just recaps of what I've already seen (for the most part). That being said, I'll likely watch THIS next season. As you said, this year's F1 season is LOADED with juicy details. The downfall of Red Bull has been interesting to watch in real time, for sure.

Just got back from watching How To Train Your Dragon with a good friend of mine. We were supposed to see it last week, but she was sick.

That was a nice and easy watch. Reminds me of Run(with Patrick Dempsey) and Gotcha!(Anthony Edward’s) Interesting take downs. I’d call it a Revenge of the Nerds meets Jason Bourne.

1st September can't come soon enough :)
Series 3 and 4 to follow in the next few months, thankfully Network got it completed (fully or almost fully) before they went bust and Old Gold Media have picked up the baton. It took 10 years to get from Series 1 on blu ray to Series 2.

Uncut and in glorious HD remastered from the original negatives...

PS when they get to series 4 and the episode where Morecambe and Wise appear, this might be the first footage of them in HD ? 🤔

Anytime I think of The Sweeney I'm reminded of the Black Books episode where Manny stays up all night with his birthday presents. An espresso maker and a box set of The Sweeney. Things go suitably off the rails, as they tend to on Black Books.

Honestly, they're both great shows.

In what way are these first steps?
Was it any better than the last 2 attempts?

Damn it, I've got to buy an espresso maker now

In their own way, I think both shows are very good examples of their era. There is NOTHING more representative of the 70s in the UK than The Sweeney. It's no coincidence that their biggest fans in the 70s were the real Sweeney, because it portrayed their life and work exactly how it was.

People don't appreciate that it was (probably) the first TV show ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD to portray police work accurately, warts and all. Prior to that, in the UK it was Dixon of Dock Green etc. And in the US you still had shows like Hawaii 5-0 - a wonderful show that I love to watch, but hardly realistic.

I am not old enough to remember TV pre-Sweeney, but there's no doubt it changed UK TV forever.

And the most important thing - DON'T watch the ITV4/ITVX butchered episodes - with 10+ minutes hacked from every episode (basically everything that needs an adult audience) the true impact of the ahow is completely lost.

By the time of Black Books, which was hysterical, the UK had (thankfully, in respect of many things) moved on, as it has continued to do so, to the point that we could take the piss out of stuff from the 70s.

I hope to watch the Fantastic Four on Sunday (I've never watched the last two FF movies). I don't have any expectations but until proven otherwise, the best FF movie for me is actually The Incredibles.

At least it has the same composer.

I wasn't sure about Pedro as he plays nearly everything these days. But I think he slowly began to nail the Reed stretchy egghead persona as he got into his flow. That guy from The Bear did a pretty good job as well but Michael Chiklis is still King Thing in my eyes.

The mid-credits scene is worth staying for but only diehard FF fans should stay for the end. You've been warned.
