Finished Guys and Dolls last night.

The play at Chanhassen was so much better than the movie. In the movie, everything feels cold, I never really care about any of the characters. In the play, it's a lot more organic and the comedy hit harder, which seems to fall flat in the movie.

I was talking to a new coworker yesterday about movies and he mentioned he bought a movie 15 years ago but hasn't unwrapped it because he needs to find the right person to subject it to with him.

So I started watching it last night.

And I love the juxtaposition of going from the wholesome Guys and Dolls to... this.

I'm really looking forward to this, looks awesome!

This is free to watch on X right now (legally on the director's own X account), until 10am June 27th EST. Link below...

PS: he's doing this because the film has been effectively "banned" in many places, as they have refused to give it a rating, so it cannot be shown.

When Marnie Was There - Studio Ghibli (2014)

Watched this last night and wasn't quite prepared for the emotional bludgeoning it deals out - I was a blubbering mess by the end of it. It's brilliant but a bit creepy and not exactly a feelgood movie for the weekend, but it is beautifully made and a very moving story.

Just finished it aaaand now I need a palate cleanser. :ill:

With the live action Moana coming next week, my friend and I decided to do a mini-marathon by watching the two animated movies. She never seen them before, and I haven't seen the second one. More emotional in 2, wasn't expecting that.

You're a braver person than me. Out of interest I tried watching Cannibal Holocaust around a decade ago, when it was on TV one weekend after. Made it barely half way thru.

Almost a shame because I think the plot is actually decent but yeah, I could have done without, er, literally everything else in it. :yuck:

My favourite Scooby-Doo reboot of all time.
A big reason I started watching it is because you mentioned how much you like it. I’m eight episodes in and I’m loving it. Frank Welker, the original voice of Fred Jones, is an absolute legend. Not just because he still has the voice for it 40+ years later, but for getting the humor of this incarnation of the show. And Matthew Lillard was born to play Shaggy. Love the many call backs to older episodes of Scooby-Doo, and movie references like the Chevy Chase lookalike in the Family Truckster from National Lampoon’s Vacation rolling in to a spooky town to open an episode.

Glad my recommendation panned out. You're right about Lillard and Welker is an absolute voice acting god. His delivery of the closing line at the season one cliffhanger still sends shivers down my spine.

The season 2 ska episode with Dave Wakelin of The Beat, the Hex Girls from the Witch's Ghost movie and MTV's Martha Quinn is top of my faves list from the show.

Watched the open matte version of Alita Battle Angel last night. Good film, great CGI, and interesting to watch with the black bars removed.
