what car is good for....

I think the Minolta is on of the better racing cars.... if it's tweaked properly.

The first thing I would suggest is Nitrous! Then, spread your gearing out AT LEAST three clicks to the right. Use the nitrous sparingly, but use it esp hard when you accelerate out of corners (be sure you adjust your intial torque setting up with a custom tranny).

Cornering still a problem? You can make it turn almost on a dime by adjusting the downforce &/or brake balance (depending on the speed of the cornering needed).

As far as the World Championship series goes, I used the Minolta. I kept going back until I was racing a toyota 7, a chapparal 2d, another minolta, a lister storm (i think), and some other car which provided a mediocre challenge at best. It was basically me and the other minolta trying to out pit the other.

And for the cheap skates out there: If you just want to buy the blacks, pass the time earning the money you'll need to buy them. Subaru pleiades race pays ridiculously well, is easy to win with a stage 2 turbo-ed impreza, and nets about 200,000 per 5 race series.

The other way is a little more complicated, but CHEAP!

Use that subaru to win the boxer series (beg) and get the RUF. Use the RUF to win the scwar liga b in Europe and get the Mercedes 190E. Use the Mercedes to win the deutch touring and get the CLK GTR. Put sports hard tires on it and run el capitan 200 to FINALLY get the Minolta!!! The most you'll have to buy is racing chip, custom tranny, and nitrous (if you choose). Complicated, yes, but cheap and effective.

I got 100% and only had to buy 30 cars (damned manufacturer's events!!!). I used the system above to use prize cars to win more prize cars and planned it so i didn't have to buy cars for 90% of the game.

Also just tried this. If you have the Mazda RX-7 LM Race car. You can use that to win, as long as you put a Stage 4 on it. (840hp)

It's not that hard to win, just buy an MX-5, put a few upgrades on it. (I only had a supercharger, exhaust, and chip) And B-Spec the Roadster 4h. Only takes about 1h:30 if you pay attention, and it's easy on tires, pitts every 30-40 laps and it's only about a 200 lap race.

I just tried the RX-7 then on Hong Kong, started with racing mediums, maintained a 3 -5 second lead over the sauber. Pitted on Lap 7, and put on racing softs. Won by about 20 seconds.

The only track that could be difficult is super speed way.

However, the Minolta should destroy this series.

I also wondered if it was possible to win this with a 'standard' car.

I just got my '86 Ruf, fully modded to about 700hp. Got to third on Hong Kong, behind the Minolta and Nissan...Anyone else got any ideas for a 'standard' car to win?

i struggled like hell with this championship. i tried it with all the black beauties and failed miserably. in the end, i had to rely on my team-mate bob to finish it for me. i dont think its a question of which car you drive, its more about your driving technique.
you say you have 1.5 mil cr. are you anywhere near day 694? if you are, pick up one of the black beauties, otherwise save up for an r8. whatever you do, try and improve your driving techinque too, it will pay dividends in the long run.

He speaks the truth. These races are extremely diffucult (well, apart from the first 2 I think), especially the city ones. I don't tknow how anybody can win in Hong Kong, even with the Minolta! The opponents also have the added advantage of perfect cornering technique, thus giving them drastically longer lasting tyres.

Any EASY tips for these races would be great.

P.S. I found anything other than the Minolta FAR too slow, even to keep up with the other cars at the damn start! I'm not very good. I do set up my car depending on the track though, ie. optimal tyres, gear ratios etc. Im just not the best driver.

What?! In the RX7 LM race car?! You actually won races in the professional championship?! Is there something I'm completely missing?! I struggled to even keep up with the pack on the straights with the Minolta?!

Do I have a version of the game permanently set to 'God Mode' or something?!

All I can say is practice, especially Hong Kong which was probably the worst. Catching the Minolta with the 787 was very hard. Had to run fairly clean laps the entire time and it still took half the race to catch him.

Your best bet is probably to qualify. Especially Hong Kong.

Next best bet is just don't worry about it. Make sure you can win 7/10 and if you have to drop Hong Kong and Paris, you can come back and win them later.

The Bentley Speed 8 should see you right:)

And if the right car, the right set-up, and qualifying first doesn't work, you can always resort to unsportsman-like conduct. In almost every track, there are what I call "widow-makers." They're dead spots that if a car hits, they stop cold... and it takes then FOREVER to get backed out of and going again.

The trick is to be in the right place at the right time and slam into your opponent when they try to brake into the corner. You have to make sure YOU have enough room to make the corner after the hit. That takes practice too.

I ran Hong Kong in a skyline... maxed out... and used two nasty PITs in two corners of HK. The first one is the first sharp left after passing the water front. You actually need to drill them into the left hand side of that corner. The other is the sharp J turn under the bridge right before all the 90degree city turns. Same thing.

As long as you're right behind first going into this corner on the last lap, you'll easily win. But be forewarned... if they're right behind you going into this corner and you try to drive clean, they'll pass you and finish first.

Now that's just plain not nice, what did the AI do to you?..............................Oh wait, I think I can guess. :dopey:

You need a "proper" race car - a Group C car [as hispeed said]. One of the following will do

Toyota GT-ONE
Audi R8
Bentley Speed 8
Nissan R89C
Nissan R92CP

Pescarolo C60
Mazda 787B
Mercedes-Benz Sauber C9
Toyota 88C-V
Jaguar XJR-9
Peugeot 905
Chapparal 2D
Chapparal 2J

Race cars like those you listed are in an entirely different class. There is no point trying to win this series with a cup car, touring car or JGTC car. It can be won with an LM car but you need Schumaker like driving skills.

Try taking an unmodded M3 GTR to the El Capitan enduro - that should not be tooo boring for you and you will win a nice shiny Group C car that can (easily) win the GTWC.

MAN.. i totally agree. u goatta use one of these babies.. they r in a class of their own. i even went as far as buyin the 4.5mil r8 :) .. but i love the car so it dont matter to me. i demolished the computer............ well almost.. i still cant beat them around hong kong...... but i absoultly suck at that track.. dunno y... but i do. i just cant get the breaking points after the long back straight!!!! :banghead:

you should try to qualify in the front, then the race becomes fairly easy if you start at first pole.

i used a minolta. 6 golds, a bronze and 3 silvers :)

So ur sayin i hafta start the gtwc all over so i can quallify for the race. cool. ill try it on the weekend. thx man!

you are not able to qualifying if you enter as individual races, you have to run the whole championship again.
