Firstly, this is not a shot at Jordan, or any of the mods. This is just for my personal reference to see what people actually think will happen when they join a forum.

THe sencond one but thats not happening lately

I guess two of those options are already covered under the AUP.

You will not post messages that are clearly outside of the stated topic of any Forums nor disrupt a forum by deliberately posting repeated irrelevant messages or copies of identical messages (also known as "flooding").

I expect a forum that accepts you.......as long as you obey the rules. Good usage of bad language prevention messures.
- You don't want Mother F'er etc all through the forum!
No pornographic or sick, tastless, or racist pictures unless it is spontainius eg a joke!
Good care for the forums.....listen to users requests and decides on their suggestions fairly.
Members respect each other.
Mods and Admins using their 'power' appropriately.

I'm sure theres more and I think GTPlanet covers most of these!

Thats why I use dis forum!

Really, I expect people to follow simple rules like "no swearing, this is an all-ages forum". I expect people to have at least a small amount of respect for each other. I expect a bunch of new people to come along and ask the same questions, to be followed by another bunch of new people who come along and ask the same questions.

I wish people would look past the end of their nose before asking the same questions. I wish people wouldn't post illiterate one-liners that do not add to the discussion. I wish people would just correct each other's mistakes without calling them an idiot. I wish people who didn't get along would just go away instead of trying to burn the place down. I wish people wouldn't be arrogant. I wish people would get over the excitement of seeing their own words published on the Internet.

In general, this is a good group here. Places like this ebb and flow. Intelligence goes up; intelligence goes down. Quality goes up; quality goes down. It happens.

I'd like to thank Jordan and the moderator staff for their hard work to keep this place friendly and worthwhile. I'm in that seat on another forum, and I know how hard it can be to face it sometimes. Thanks, guys.

members that respect each others while staying within the forum rules?

My main issues are that everone conduct themselves with some civility, and respect each other. As LoudMusic says, 'think before you speak'.

I'm personally not that fussed about threads remaining 'on topic' - some of the better threads here follow the natural ebb and flow of conversation, and that is one of the things about GT Planet that makes me come back. You'll see a number of threads start on topic, and then work through various side issues on that topic as they grow.

It's when a disagreement turns into some of the childish squabbling we've seen here over recent weeks that we encounter problems.

Rather well put, Vat. And thanks for the plug (:

First of all I'd like to point out that there are two kinds of "expect". One use is, "I expect the Sun to come up in the morning and set in the evening, because it always has and always will." Another is that, "I expect to win the local 5K foot race next year, with the understanding that this is a desire and not naturally occurring." I will begin with the Sun rising ...

I expect that the moderators/Admins keep the correct threads in the correct sub-forums and moderate posts - repremanding offenders appropriately. I expect that there will be a "dumping ground" for all site-spacific-unrealated threads. This is generally stated in the AUP (acceptable use policy), and moderators are generally good at enforcing the rules. I expect that the default settings for new user profiles give the largest view of threads, while not being overwhelming. And the options for customization are easily found and manipulated.

And now to the latter of the two.

I expect that members act with referance and decency toward one another. I expect that posts are generally intelligent and thought provoking. I expect that information is researched before shared. I expect that members make an attempt to stay on topic ... straying from the topic is acceptable so long as the previous 'expects' are adheard to.

I expect to fall asleep any moment now ... good night.

Generally, everything I got from GTPlanet.

The members here really make this place a 'community,' much like a small town where everyone knows everyone else. Jordan made this site well but the community helps it grow based purely on everyone's attitude.

Yeah, wide open. But they need to be sorted correctly or I won't be coming back. It needs to be wide open so that I get an initial feel for the entirety of the site. But I like to have options to trim it back to what I'm interested in.

May I direct you to www.clubsi.com ? What an informationally worthless forum, drowning in its own mess.

My point exactly. Thank you for proving it so conclusively.

Censorship is one thing, civility is another. If you expect intelligent discussion, you need to set ground rules to weed out the feebs and the jackasses.

Having some simple rules to follow to ensure decent conversations for all is not censorship except in the most extreme definition of the word.
