Just because I find going through the gears with the H shifter more rewarding. Powering in/out of corners and dropping it into gear is more fun than using the paddles. I've set the the right paddle for the ebrake because I find the buttons on the wheel a bit too small to hit especially when I'm turning the wheel at the same time.

Just personal preference.

I've set the Left Paddle for e-brake hahahhaa.... love it! :D

Does it mean I've improved if I can platinum a speedrun in one try? (not including the first run where I scope out the route).

Hate it with a passion. Do you really expect me to do a donut in a 10-foot box, before doing more donuts around other obstacles, in less than 1:10?

Get me back to the rally's asap, please :D

Outbreak is pretty fun, especially against those who dont look behind. I was following this one dude for the longest time and even sat behind him for a good 5 seconds!

I like the dc compound, can explore at my own rate and just thrash a car around (EXACTLY why I have the game). It is ruined in the DiRT tour though I find. There are several events and I don't really see too much difference between them? You get 1:30 which is more than enough time to get bored of doing the same things over... Mainly because each of the arenas is just an expanse of area, a ramp, plus some markers. If they made them more like the compound though, I would LOVE to have 1:30 to jump between containers, drive through containers, drift under lorries, smash some fences, race the car through narrow scaffolding sections, before donutting a digger!

I think it could of been a very good ideia if it wasnt mandatory to move on the career mode... as an option... but to those (like me that just want to race) and have to through the car around to be able to progress it sucks...

Just tone the difficulty down if you're stuck. The scores you have to beat are really quite reasonable. Especially if you work out how to use the handbrake properly.

Yeah, I noticed that when the difficulty is set to one, the top-scoring AI driver will only get about 100,000 points (and be the only one to do so). At a difficulty of six, the top-scoring AI driver (usually Ken Block) will easily top 500,000.

500,000 isn't tough so long as there are a lot of smash blocks hurdling together.

I've found it's easiest on one of the Monaco ones. I don't know the name of it, but it's a really long, narrow one.

Where there is a Smash block farm at the back, right?

In my opinion it is a waste of space, Codemasters should have used that space to include more rally events, rally locations. I did not buy SKATE, did I?

I've changed my mind on this, the freedrive park is great fun and i enjoyed doing the challenges, I just wasn't a fan of the gymkhana competitions. A few friends have played the game at mine and questioned why there wasn't more of it, or even why isn't there a full game of it.

Would have liked more rallying though, dump the rally cross.

i hate it , by the way how do you get past the first triangle , i have completed all mission on it but the rest are still grayed out , do i have to do the gymkhana events to proceed tothe next triangle , or can i miss them out cos i really do hate em . sorry for the silly question , but i'm not playing dirt 3 much , as i'm addicted to shift 2

You do have to do the gymkhana as it is the 'end of season' event I think, but bronze is easy so it's not difficult to pass. After that you can completely ignore them, it is an introduction to the discipline and in my personal opinion people shouldn't knock gymkhana until they have at least completed the school to get a real feel for it at which point they can avoid it for the rest of the game.

Its fun, but frustrating when you can't get things after a long time (at least for me)

I wish they focused more on racing, I could have done without gymkhana completely

This +1 👍

Meh, its ok. But I didn't buy Dirt 3 to do donuts around construction equipment.

Gymkhana isn't fun. Playing Outbreak however is loads of fun...

Eh, not a fan of Outbreak. The easiest way to win is to run and hide. Everyone has worked this out, so they always veto the Depot stage because there are no really good hiding places. The end result is that if you get infected, you've got a really tight time limit to catch everyone, so you pretty much have to do it perfectly.

Also, don't use the Scion tC in Outbreak. I've found that if you use the DLC cars, you make a target out of yourself. I played five rounds of Outbreak yesterday (going from the Parking Lot to the Depot to the Waterfront, then the Power Station and finally the entire Compound, which was a really good progression), and I was the first one the origin came after every time.

Cause and effect, I have still never been the origin and I've used the Scion every time since I got it. Granted most of the running Aldo was also in a Scion (boosting the trophy for him) and he naturally got the origin most times as he needed to be anything but  when it was just me and him however whilst someone else was present this was not the case and it was mixed between Aldo and that person who was in a Fiesta. During that whole period I was still in the Scion, there definately appears to be some kind of system though and that system seems to avoid choosing me. Impact ratings is the only thing I could think of, as I was the only white hexagon most of these games and previous pre-DLC, but I have no evidence to support it and so it is nothing but a potential theory.

the gymkhana is the only reason i became interested in the game. before this game i found myself rearranging the cones in gt5 at top gear and doing this.

I have still never been the origin
I have - once. And it was early on in my online career. I'm okay with it now, but at the time, the fish-eye lens was really disconcerting. I actually came first in that game because everyone was infected, but I only got the one other player.

I don't quite understand the scoring, I had one session where I lasted longest though did get caught, and finished last which hardly seemed fair as I had no chance to earn points as infected so essentially by doing worse at running away other drivers beat me.

If you're infected, you get two points for each person you infect.

If you're uninfected, you get one point for each time someone else gets infected because you've lasted longer than the others.

The points system automatically favours people who are infected, but at the same time, if you survive the outbreak, you win by default. It's harder now that everyone knows the ins and outs of the Compound, so hiding places are less reliable than they once were.

And it you're running from a zombie, especially me, please don't drive to the corner of the parking lot because that's a dead end and I will always nail you once you make a left towards the depot.

I'm pretty sure I could out-run your Canadian bacon. I'd do a Scandinavian flick - feint left, then swing around to my right in a massive arc that will bring me all the way around while you make your lunge (and miss).

Most likely, but I'm a patient chaser. I take it slow, follow you at a good distance and wait until you screw up. This method of course won't be effective against better drivers.

Well, it's an interesting approach. Personally, I think you're better off going for it. Especially if you're chasing someone canny. You know the mission "Thread the Needle", where you drive off the top of the containers in the depot, and through the open container at ground level into the parking lot? Easiest way to shake a tail. They'll charge at you, especially if they see you slowing down to hit the drop at the right speed. It usually results in them crashing and (assuming you do it right) you getting away scot-free. Unless you're working against teams. That can be tricky. I was in the Parking Lot and positioned myself up on the scaffolding against the main building of the power station. Because it's all blocked off, they can only come at you from one direction. It's a favourite hiding spot of mine because you can get out easily. Unless you run into a co-ordinated assault: one guy parked himself at the top of the ramp to block my escape while another guy jumped up onto the scaffolding and came at me. I had to drop onto the ramp and then reverse down to get away (which was funny, sicne they'd clearly put some thought into how they were going to get me, but they hadn't considered the bottom of the ramp).
