you can't win against someone who does use driving aids, that's why you guys ban them so much online.

It's usually banned online because it is an aid that does not exist in the real world. It has nothing to do with winning or losing.

I race with a friendly GTP group once a week or so, and half of them use SRF. I use no aids, so I hardly ever win a race, but when I do, it makes it that much sweeter.

I was not trying to start an argument. It was the others who assumed I was trying to start one. I was just posting my thoughts.

Well, the OP was not asking for your thoughts. He was asking about aids. And yes, it was your thoughts that started the whole thing. You could have just simply answered the question and moved on instead of baiting people into an arguement. There was no need for the additional comments in your first post. Now just stop, seriously.

You could say it about us, but it wouldn't be true.

Aids make cars easier to drive. Those of us who've mastered every other aspect of the game reduce our aids usage because it adds to the difficultu factor and keeps the game from being boring. If you require SRF to get around quickly, then your lacking certain skills like throttle control and proper racing line usage. That might not make you new to the game, but it does make you less skilled and therefor noobish.

Aids don't imply limited skill. Not even SRF. Someone could just like SRF more and simply play that way, and those that drive on SRF regularly would probably out drive those who don't in a SRF race.

Are you sure? Because I'm sure you guys know you can't win against someone who does use driving aids, that's why you guys ban them so much online.

TCS basically slows you down most of the time, ABS is probably about the same on or off as far as lap times go. SRF makes the car faster though.

I doubt that most people force them off because aid users are faster (except SRF), it's probably more along the lines of elitism.

Agreed.

Like many posters above, I have ABS at 1, and everything else off. I'll add, though, that I'm using a DS3 with steering sensitivity at 7 (max), almost always use bumper view, always use a manual transmission, and if I had a wheel/pedal set, I might not use ABS at all.

The reason I personally don't use any aids, is not because I'm an elitist, nor is it mainly to give myself a challenge. It's because I prefer the feel of driving without them, and for the most part, they don't make it any easier for me to drive. I agree that TCS does hamper performance, and maybe SRF would help it. But for me, what it comes down to, is that driving aids, either in a video game or in real life, take a level of control away from the driver, and dilute the driving sensations and inputs.

- An automatic takes the gear choice away from me. Although I sometimes choose the wrong gear for a given situation, it's less frustrating than not having the choice at all.
- I find Driving Line very distracting, not to mention ugly and gimmicky.
- Traction Control often reduces engine power at inopportune moments. In many situations, a little bit of wheelspin is faster, not to mention that it's impossible to "steer with the throttle", be it FR, FF, or 4WD. I think TCS is especially excruciating on gravel and snow tracks.
- Skid Recovery Force feels artificial (it is) and "arcadey".
- Active Steering also feels arcadey and fake (it is, too) plus it take control away from the driver in the same way an automatic does.
- Active Stability Management is at least a real product on cars (unlike SRF and AS), but again, I prefer to make my own mistakes, because when I don't make them, it's all the more rewarding. ASM also takes control away from the driver.
- ABS at anything higher than 1 is overkill for me. Even with a DS3, I find few (if any) cars that fully lock-up easily or often. Like with TCS off, it's often beneficial to bring the wheels (especially the rears) close to lock-up in order to "pitch" the car into a corner. I assume a foot pedal would make this even easier to modulate.

I wish there was a manual override while racing. On GT2 I use to keep down shifting to help me hit the apex.

With GT5 I dab the brakes just as its up shifted , thus forcing it to down change. Just feels more controlled in a corner/bend.

I doubt that ABS off would result about the same lap times as ABS on for most people, especially those who never drive without ABS. How many GT5 players who competed in any TT that don't use ABS ? How many of them got within 5000 worldwide ranking ? Driving with ABS off is not an easy thing to do as switching off ASM, AS,TCS or SRF. Those who use ABS from day one would understand this when they decide to switch it off.

The reason SRF could out drive those who don't use one, is simply because it make the car faster, there's no driver skill in the equation. An experienced and talented driver could use SRF and keep on winning that much easier. A beginner can use SRF and have much higher chance to beat everyone who don't in an online race. I often met those with SRF, TCS and ABS enabled in shuffle races, they do drive faster than usual, but I still could win, even without using any aids ( including ABS ).

Aids no matter which one, will always make the car easier to drive, and anything that makes things less of a burden, easier and faster would often due to the player who could not handle the more difficult way of driving without one or choose the easier path for the sake of more fun. This is why aids become more of preference to most drivers, it's easier to live with and more "fun", then why not.

Abs at 1, everything else is for noobs

This 👍

altough when the game host doesn't allow abs , that's fine too
( especially since i just  found out that brake balance can be altered
and still be "no tuning eligible" )

I'm aware of the difficulty that most people associate with ABS off, but I've raced that way with a controller. As long as you know when you're going to lock up, it's not that hard to use, and the adjustable brake bias can make it even easier.

My post referred to SRF vs SRF, not SRF vs non SRF. I know that SRF is faster than non SRF, but at the same time I doubt anyone would make the most of SRF without practice.

Just because someone uses aids, it's doesn't mean that they couldn't drive without them. Just look at professional racing where there is TCS, paddle shifting, and lots of other things depending on the specific race. It's the same thing with GT, some people just like TCS keeping the car in line more than having to sort it out with throttle modulation.

Some people who use aids do use them out of necessity I'm sure, but it's not going to be everyone.

i turn off all aids except abs (abs-1) but i will turn off even the abs when im driving a low PP front wheel drive car, i feel i can brake and turn at the same time more sharp and get better lap times as such... ps in settings i also lower my brake sensitivity alot when i use No abs.

No aids at all for me, I just prefer the enhanced feel that you get. 👍

ABS off being slower is all dependent on the car/track you are using. It is almost impossible to be faster at Daytona with no ABS, due to the fact that with ABS on, you can brake ridiculously deep into the first corner. Do that with no ABS and you'll be either going in sideways or plowing through with your inside front locked up.

However, with different car/track combos, I think it is possible to go just as quick with either setting. 👍

I pretty much always have abs on 1, if I dont know a track extremely well I'll use the driving line rather than crash into everyone on every corner and sometimes for high powered cars 650pp upwards I use traction control on 1.
On a side note regarding driver aids it always makes me chuckle when I see rooms called no aids yet everyone is using racing soft tyres as to me they are the biggest driver aid of them all.

I use none with my DS3, though I've always played GT3 and GT4 with most aids on. I'm just enjoying it so much, cruising online with others. I feel less aids gives you more control over the car, without ABS it's easier to take corners and not understeer as much for example.

If were talking about driving aids I think Racing Softs could be included as well.

All off except ABS set to 1. I completed almost everyting on my main account (except vettel golds) without SRF. I tried SRF on the lambo challenge on the Ring. I was struggling to win this seasonal, with SRF on I won by 3 seconds. SRF let me turn into corners at speeds you could not do without it. I will go back to playing without aids, but SRF seems to be a pretty big help.

Would the best drivers (the alens as I see them referred to here) run faster laps if SRF was allowed on TTs? I don't think TC would help times, but would SRF help the very best drivers?
