What driving aids do you use ?

TCS on 1 or off (depends on car), ABS on 1

Some cars are faster with TCS off in any case - I only beat the official GTR record at the 'Ring when all the aids were off.

A car like the GTR is full of electrickery of it's own in stock form - it feels like the added 'layer' of GT aids dilutes it.

Calibrate the brake pedal? Is that in the options area? I just typically put my brakes on 2 or 3 instead of 5

Just press the brake pedal all the way down. Otherwise the game will use only a short part of the pedal travel.

I think the fastest times of GT-R are indeed driven with the least of the aids on. The real gimmic of the car is it's differentials, not it's TC.

I'm a DS3 user, and the only aids wich is on, is abs at 1.
I find it really funny to drive with no aids on, and I've become (IMO) a much better racingdriver ( I don't use racing-line. and I always use manuel gear).

BTW. my setup is,
accelerate: R2
Brake: L2
gear up: square
gear down: cross

I'm a bit bored about this topic... Drive as you want. Nobody is telling you how to enjoy your game.

I love how everyone here is saying to simply use throttle control, but it isn't really precise when you're using a button.

Take your custom gearbox and set it up to have what I like to call "cheater TC." Make first gear as short as possible, that way it won't be used during the race except for launch, as your car will have to be going really slow to downshift to it. Then widen out second and third all of the way, and make fourth a smooth transition from third to fifth.

This will slow down the acceleration in second and third (and a little in fourth), making it easier to control. It will also reduce tire wear and allow you to get on the throttle earlier while exiting a corner. I use X and square to accelerate and brake, and I can control even the most powerful cars.

As I've often explained, there's nothing wrong with players playing the game how they enjoy playing it. If they want or need the driving aids, that's wonderful; that's what they're there for. More skilled players wanting more of a challenge rather than playing on easy mode can turn them off if they wish.

The only problems I have pertaining to driving aids are:

[*]Players that feel the need to justify using them, as though we care whether they use them or not and/or as though they're actually doing what's proper or right by using them.
[*]People that use them, especially using unrealistic aids like the magic race line or skid recovery, that then turn around and boast about how skilled they are.

Even using aids in the game on a car that actually did normally have them isn't what's proper or what's right. Again, if someone wants or needs them, that's wonderful; use them. However, if a player of higher skill level wants more of a challenge, by all means turn off the aids even on a car that normally has them in real life. If somebody wants to drive a car that in real life had traction control but run it without TCS in the game, that's absolutely fantastic that they're skilled enough to do so. "The real life car had it so I'm gonna use it" is just an excuse.

Still, again, if someone wants or needs them, use them. People don't need to bother with excuses for them. They're there to help players that need the help.

My problem with the elitist... # 1. They claim to be "more skilled" JUST because they don't use assists. # 2. They CLAIM to be "faster" & "more realistic" w/o aides, but I've yet to find either of those proven true. # 3. They come into YOUR room and beg you to turn them off, and when you don't, they call YOU a noob... Although they were the one consistently pulling (close to)last! All the above proves why/how you've all garnered the name "elitists." Get over it, you're all NoT "pro", more skilled, or any better because you go without what the game provides, you're ELITIST.. Especially if you boast any of the Aforementioned! "IF you were soooooo elite/skilled you'd beat us without them."

You just need to practice throttle/braking management. Which is where TCS & ABS comes to play on each corresponding side.

TCS off is easily manageable on cars w/ low horsepower, like below 500 or so. But around 600+ is where you'll have to manage it a bit more. Usually, you would input a small amount of throttle mid-corner & gradually feed more from there. That should keep you from having wheelspin. But on some corners, like high-speed ones (e.g. Hocheichen (Nordschleife), It can be tricky to manage throttle/braking, while at the same time negotiating the corner(s) properly. So the best advice I can give you is to just input throttle somewhere around the apex of a corner and gradually build from there. And start off in road cars, and then race cars, as some don't have TCS.

ABS off is basically the same thing as TCS, but you'll have to feather the brakes on virtually every car, to prevent lock-ups. This is a field where people can get annoyed of, so preferable to have this set to 1. However, take note that ABS on will result in some grip used on braking rather than cornering, but having it off will have vice versa. At least, that's what I think it'll happen.

Controller setup can also benefit a bit on throttle/brake management. Like I have my accel. and brake mapped to L2 & R2, steering mapped to left analog, and gear shifter to right analog. However, some people prefer accel. and brake mapped to right analog. But it's all a matter on preference.

Hope this helps 👍

Getting AIDS from driving has been a relatively common problem that basically arise in GT5 Fanboys.

On topic (to keep it short):
Yes you are.
But again, we all were at one point. Just play the game the way you like it and have fun, it's what matters.

They feel the need to justify using them, because of elitist post like yours.
For everyone reading this, you are an elitist if you feel the need to come on GTP and post how you don't use any driving aids.

Actually, once you reach 96-100% of the tires available grip, they just give up and understeer/oversteer.... that is it.
Say you turn and slam on the brakes with no ABS on, then you break the tires' available grip and start to drift in a straight line (understeer) or you start to spin wildly (very rare, oversteer). If you brake with ABS on and turn rapidly (or vice-versa) the ABS system will detect abnormal readouts and correct braking input and pressure.

Car setup is crucial. I use the d pad to steer and the buttons for accn and brake.

I used to have all the aids on at first because i Couldn't get my McLaren 94 around the track.

One day got laughed at on an online lobby for being a rubbish noob.

So spent many hours practicing with
out aids and adjusting gear ratios, lsd , suspension setting and now dont need them, also manual gear changes are crucial.

Stick to it and you will get there, if i can then anybody can.

:-)

^ This, I also use a similar setup as him. Generally, the most difficult part is to control the wheelspin and practicing how to countersteer;)

In general, practice practice practice:D

Bro..well said, particularly the practice, practice part. I also use the sixasix and when i did the lambo grand tour on toscan tarmac, I was about 15secs off the winner. Over a 3hr time I period I stuck at it and gradually my time became more consistent and faster. Of course I made some mistakes but eventually I nailed it. Whatever setting or aid, practice, practice and practice.

i use pad and abs=1. Anything else off. In beginning i use aids. But imho it's more funnier drive without them. I use also use sport hard anything car were hp is under 800. I like that car power is on my control. Power is nothing without control :)

DS3 user.

ABS 1, pretty much always.

Driving line, about 2/3 of the time. (Not when I am overpowered, or one the few tracks I know well.)

TC: off on regular cars, 1 on very powerful cars, 2 on jumpy superpowered race cars

Mild steering: smoothes my line, less likely to spin out and nice drifts

Auto tranny: superpowered race cars, or very twisty tracks

Sports softs at most on regular cars. Racing hard or medium on race cars.

I am above average compared to the universe of GT5 players, but below average compared to the harder core crowd that posts here. I just like to have fun, and have been lowering my usage of the aids as I get better. (GT5 is my first Grand Turismo game too.)
